Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: the business is still refusing to accept responsibility for their mistake in not providing all contract information to us at the time of signing the contractAlso, their response mentioned that they expect us to get "some" of our deposit backthis is new information for us, but we are not satisfied with this non-committal languageWe will not consider this complaint resolved unless we receive the whole deposit back ($600). I appreciate the business responding, and we also appreciate that the apartment was rented quickly, but the fact of the matter is: we would not have signed or given them any money in the first place if the information about not getting the deposit back unless we stayed for months had been providedNot only were we not given this information, but we were told the contrary by a representativeDaniel T***, we want you to see this from our point of viewIf a company took around $from you and you received no product or service in return because of an oversight by the company you would be entitled to seek a refund as well and you would want them to accept responsibility for that oversight
Sincerely,
*** ***

The apartment was taken off of the market and not further advertised once they paid their deposit All of our residential contracts have month minimums unless they are specifically noted as short term rentals The residential contract also is very specific that there is a winter lease
that is required from every September until the end of March of each year This is spelled out in the contract which they signed All anyone in our office can do is abide by what is in writing Unfortunately, these folks do not feel that this applies to them We did do our best efforts to re-rent the property as soon as possible to get them out of their obligation We seek to take every situation and make it as fair as possible both for the owner of the property as well as the tenants Unfortunately, sometimes that puts us in a difficult position I believe that these folks will get some of their deposit back as the property did re-rent rather quickly

I am emailing to let you know that the business this complaint was about (Rental Connection in Coeur d' Alene ID) has resolved the issue with us. Thanks for your help!   [redacted]

According to Rental Connections website, they have been in business for over 30 years. Considering the experience I had with them over the span of 10 months, I would think they had no experience in the property management business at all. The staff clearly has no experience understanding, communicating, or following rental rules or policies and it led to numerous issues and conflicts with the office up until the property’s owner sold the building and the management was taken over by a new office. The only exception on the staff was [redacted] she was wonderful and really had a heart. If you’re reading this [redacted], please find another place to work because you are so much better than them. Rental Connection ended up letting us move into a unit they had not inspected before hand and was only told by the owner was clean and ready to move into; we documented over 75 pictures of filth and damage to the apartment we were moving into over the first weekend we had the keys. On two separate occasions during winter, they tried to add fees to our bill that were not agreed upon in our lease. We refused to pay for a heating bill they weren’t producing for us and kept claiming only the owner sees. I had to threaten to get a lawyer for them to understand they can’t add “penalty fees” for a bill regarding rent if it wasn’t agreed on in the lease to begin with. And finally none of the damage we documented from the first two days we moved in was fixed the entire 10 months because every time they tried to send someone out to repair something we were given less than 24 hour notice and we told them not to send anyone if we can't get a minimum of 24 hour notice (we have a dog and needed to coordinate being there when they would want to fix anything). Since they never inspected the unit before we moved in, they were trying to get us to agree to let them over with less notice so they could look around the unit without us there. This office was the most unprofessional, rude, underhanded, and uneducated group of people I have ever had to deal with.

Review: I purchased a Mobile home in August of 2013 in [redacted] park managed by The Rental Connection. I lived there for 5 months and realized the cost of the electricity was too high for me to afford I decided to sell the mobile home and had several people interested but I wanted to get as much money out of it that I could so I was having some repairs done prior to listing it. I sent a letter to The Rental connection at the end of december advising that I would be moving in February of 2014 to which I also made a copy of the letter for my own records, I talked to the gal at the office in January as I had not paid rent yet and told her I would pay January's rent as soon as I could that I was selling the trailer. I contacted The Rental Connection and asked when I would get my deposit back and if I could have it applied to the back rent to which they said no they do not do that so after I did repairs I found a buyer and made sure they knew that they had to be approved by the Rental connection prior to buying it. They were approved the next day or the day after I can't remember but when they went to The Rental Connection they paid my back rent for me and deducted it from the total purchase price. They moved in on February 1st 2014. Then I get a letter from The Rental Connection saying that because I didn't give them 30 days notice I would not get any of my deposit back. I took them copies of the letter that I had sent and my niece [redacted] was there when I wrote the letter and she gave me the stamp and envelope to mail it. I put it in [redacted]'s mail box and we seen the mail lady pick it up. [redacted] wrote a letter stating that she witnessed me writing the letter and gave me the stamp and envelope. I then get a letter from The rental connection saying that the receptionist said they did not receive my letter and that [redacted] had no bearing on my case and their decision stood. In this letter was also notes from 19 other renters accounts saying they were late and how much they owe and that space 14 was saying how the law says they can't charge more than 3 months back rent. I was flabergasted that they had that on there first of all and angered that they are lying about my letter. I've been in North Dakota and haven't had a chance to get to this so that is why I'm writing now. They owe me 210.00 as I paid 315.00 with the understanding that they would keep a 95.00 non refundable portion.Desired Settlement: I want my deposit of 210.00 back. I will go to small claims court if I have to but I am hoping to settle it this way first.

Response:

To whom it may concern...[redacted] gave no notice that she was selling or vacating the mobile. I sent [redacted] a letter on 2/18/2014 stating the above. Along with copies of log notes on this. On 1/20/2014 The [redacted] came in & put in an application for this mobile. According to the [redacted] only put her mobile up for sale the day before. We only called her & found out about this because on the same day,1/20/2014, [redacted], my office assistant had called her because she had paid no rent for the month. [redacted] told [redacted] she was thinking of selling because the electric was so expensive & she couldn't pay it or the rent. Then shorlty after the [redacted] showed up. So if she was thinking about it & why would she give a notice so far in advance?? That's 51 days. We only ask for a 30 Day Intent to Vacate. As I said before, we received nothing from this lady. I believe she needs money & this is just an another attempt to get it. Also, [redacted] was told by [redacted] on 1/20/2014 that if she was selling that she needed to come to the office & fill out the Intent to Vacate, which she never did. The [redacted] were also told that we had not received that Intent from [redacted]. Finally, my liquidation letter was mailed 1/28/2014. I then receive a letter from [redacted] disputing this, but dated 1/12/2014.Mind you, that dispute letter was a copy from [redacted]. I never received anything. So I'm suppose to believe She sent a letter on 12/30/2013 & another letter on 1/12/2014 & I didn't receive either? Bottom line, [redacted] was to fill out that Intent here at the office, per her contract. She did not. Despite the fact that we never received any other correspondence from her. Only her copies.
