Restoration 1 Toronto Reviews (%countItem)

restoration 1 helped me with our sewer back up, the emergency cleanup was quick and efficient and Eric the manager patiently explained and answered all my questions and even understood our financial situations, they handled my sewer back up issues quickly, so much better than the company recommended by my own home insurance company(TD), and they are excellent in communicating with us whether the answer is yes or no, still they keep me updated.

Thank you Jennifer. Glad we could help

I had a small leak on February 24. I called the plumber and he found a faulty toilet. He asked if I wanted him to call his friend at Restoration1 in Toronto to come and take a look. I said yes. They made the appointment for the following day Sunday February 25. Plumber closed the water pipe and so there was no more water leak.
On Sunday he shows up and tells me that they could fix it. I asked how much it would be, he said that if I went with the insurance it would be around $1500. I thanked him as I didn't want to proceed as I told him that I wasn't sure what my deductible was and that I didn't want to go through my insurance if my deductible was higher and that I was going to call him if I decided to go with them. He left, and a few minutes later he called me back saying that he talked to his manager, that I didn't need to pay them right away and that if my deductible was high then he would give me a cash price and that it wouldn't be more than $800 if I was paying directly. I asked him if that included covering the two small holes as I didn't want to have those holes open and he said yes! He said they would send me a quote in a couple of days. Then he asked me to sign the agreement (which didn't have any quotes) but it was more so for the insurance as they bill the insurance directly (meaning that if I decided use my insurance I wouldn't see what they would charge!). He plugged the two fans, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen and a dehumidifier in the kitchen. He took the baseboard from the bathroom and sprayed the antibacterial. He didn't stay for very long, around 35 minutes, there wasn't much to do. He left and a girl came three days later to pick up the equipment which took her less than 10 minutes.

He also told me that he was knew and didn't know the exact prices but that his manager would be sending me the quotes. (when I email his manager he said that the guy has been in the business for 6 yrs and 3 with the company!!!

I have tried to get them to charge me for the actual job and not the emergency bill they have sent.

I never made an emergency call to them.

I find that this business is not honest and told me *** so I could just give them the job.

After a few days I called them and ask for them to send me the bill as I checked with my insurance and I had a $1000 which was not worth for me to go through them as it would only cost me around $800 as their guy had told me. So, first they sent me a $1400 bill for this job which included drywall tearing/removing etc which they never did. I guess that's what they were submitting to the insurance!

I call them and ask them to send me the correct bill and explained to the manager I didn't think that $1400 was correct for the 35 minute job they did, as no dry walls were torned (they stated that the job was completed).

All in all they have given me 3 different bills as they can't make up their mind as to what to charge me as every time they gave me a different bill I told them to charge me for what they had done and not anything else. Plugging 2 fans, 1 dehumidifier, I was even willing to pay one hour labour (the guy also told me they were very close and it took less than 5 minutes to get there).

Second time they came back with a $1000 and I told them again, am not paying for something that took less than one hour and they were charging me for 4 hours and 3 days of equipment still plus emergency call that I never made.

Third time, I finally said that I didn't mind paying the $800 I was quoted including covering my holes... and the manager just came back to me, that he has no problem with me paying what I was quoted! Yet I still have holes on my wall!!

All of these I have repeated it in many emails back and forth with the manager and today I got one last email saying that I needed to pay by tomorrow the $800 for 2 fans, one dehumidifier and one hour labour, I don't think is correct since my walls are still open.!!
I have pictures plus all emails.

Desired Outcome

I would like them to be honest with what they are charging me. I was quoted around $800 drying the small leak and for fixing my holes in the ceiling and wall. I am not willing to pay $800 for only 35 minutes worth of work plus plugging in two fans and a dehumidifier and spraying some antibacterial, and removing a baseboard. I am willing to pay for the equipment used plus one hour labour. Labour $50.62 (35 minutes day one and 10 minutes day 3) dehumidifier $75.75 (times 3 days) Fan $36 (times 3 days) Fan $36 (times 3 day) Antibacterial Spray $10.40 Baseboard removal $6.30 these prices are based on the first bill they sent me. By the next two bills they had changed the prices and the labour cost. The equipment was actually not need for the three day as it was pretty dry (the leak was insignificant but they scared me as soon as they used the word MOLD). I am willing still to pay for the equipment being used the 3 days. They should have advised me that there was no need for a restoration company as my leak was very small and pretty much dry out when they arrived.

So you would like to only pay $510.57 for the work we did correct?

Customer Response • Mar 15, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Is that the new correct bill? I would pay it, but now, I got an threating email from them saying they will be sending my account to collections, I need to pay it full ($1400), plus lawyers fees and interest.

Is this their final resolution?

Restoration 1 Toronto Response • Mar 15, 2018

We can agree on the amount of $510.57 + HST ($576.94) and provide us with a cheque for a total of $576.94 by March 31st 2018.
