Restoration and Refinishing

Review: On February **, 2013, I agreed to the company's quote to refinish and re-upholster a vintage dining room suite. The furniture was picked up from my address in Manhattan on February [redacted]. I paid a 50% deposit on the estimated cost of $4,900 shortly thereafter. We were given an estimated turnaround time of six to eight weeks on the job.Despite constant contact with the supplier, they are still in possession of my furniture some five months later. Our efforts to resolve the situation have been met with excuses and prevarication. On July [redacted] I wrote again to the company to suggest some ways to resolve the stalemate and made clear that if the furniture was not returned to us by July [redacted] we would consider it stolen. Although R&R promised to deliver the furniture to us that day, they again failed to show up.I believe this company has taken a check for $2,450, my dining room furniture, and fabric worth a further several hundred dollars, without any intention whatsoever of ever returning it to me. This is the most egregious form of consumer fraud imaginable.Desired Settlement: I seek the immediate return of my belongings, the replacement thereof, or the cash value of such replacement.

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Restoration and Refinishing LLC regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I have neither the furniture nor the money I paid to R&R as a deposit for the work they were supposed to undertake.

In my last reply to your request for an update on the complaint, I told you the company had contacted us about returning the furniture, but -- true to form -- we heard nothing concrete from them regarding delivery. We have since filed two claims against them with the Small Claims Court in Sussex County and have informed R&R of this fact. They have made no reply to us at all. Our claims are for breach of contract, in the amount of the deposit paid to R&R for the work they have clearly not performed, and for loss of personal property, in the amount of $5,000.

I look forward to hearing from you in the event there is anything you can do to help resolve this dispute. Failing that we propose to pursue our rights at law with respect to Restoration & Refinishing LLC.
