I was given a quote he collected my deposit. Then attempted to increase the quote by almost double. Because he was unethical I didn't give him the job
Mr Reyna met me at my home 3/31 I had sent him a quote I had gotten prior. He was referred to me by his family member, this family member of his and I have known each other a long time and I trusted this referral. Mr Reyna and I agreed on a price because it was a good time for him between jobs. I gave him a $400 cash deposit that day.As agreed upon I was purchasing and paying for in advance the list of materials he sent me as well as I completed demolition myself 3/31 and sent him photos. A couple weeks went by we moved forward to have him obtain a key and move forward with install. At this time he told me he would have to increase my quote by almost double because of timing and stated that these things just happen. I spoke with my husband and neither of us were comfortable moving forward with someone that was unable to keep his word; trust was broken. He told me if I didn't want to move forward with him he would refund my money in a couple of days. Days and weeks went by with no reply. I finally reached out to his family member that had referred him to me; this family member was very sorry for the bad service and referral and said he would get me answers. It took another week and I came to find that he ( Sam Reyna my contractor was in jail.) His family member put me in touch with his wife who called me apologized and asked if he could retain the job stating he would need the work when he got out. I respectfully declined. I confirmed my *** request for refund sent to both her and her husband and she stated she would pay me that day as soon as she wasn't driving. Still nothing days later she said she only had a $100 Sam must have the rest and she would have me paid by 4/29,. 4/29 comes and goes; no refund no phone email or text replies. I reach out to the family member again give him the new development again he apologizes and then Sam calls me and apologizes says he will send me an invoice and to call him. I message him that all I want is my refund nothing to discuss but confirm I will call and tell him the same. When I call he tells me how now I really wont have anything left after he pays himself for his time his $75 consult fee... on and on. I tell him this is crazy and he told me he would refund my money and never mentioned any of these things. I told him I would have had him complete the job had he just been honest and ethical from the beginning. He said things happen and if he had sent me a contract this would all be in there. There is no contract and I told him that that isn't how you do business you don't claim all of these hidden fees and what you would charge someone ( not send them this information and not discuss it ) till after you alter what you agreed upon in the first place. He stated he was protected and he would send me an invoice. I called my attorney prior to this conversation with Sam and told him that he could refund me like he said he would or I would report him to the Revdex.com, online reviews so others were protected against his dishonesty, and move forward to obtain my refund he said he would refund. I apologized he landed in jail but told him I can not be held hostage to my rightfully refundable deposit because he ran into trouble. I stated it was not only not right but illegal for him to keep for services unfulfilled; he disagreed. I asked him over and over to just give me my deposit back. I told him I even requested $50 less than the $400 to account for his fuel from BH to Kalamazoo. This wrapped around a visit to his cousin he was already making. He never told me about a consult fee, cancelation fee, no indication he would almost double his quote to me which I accepted. I accepted his bid,shook on it and gave him a deposit within 30 minutes. I never imagined he would be unethical. I am disappointed, as is the family member that referred him to me. I simply want my deposit back and I want others protected from him in the future.
