My office prepared and filed ** ***'s federal and NYS tax return. An education credit was applied for and given on the federal return. The error, I, the preparer made was in the transferring of credits to the NYS return - I did not show the taxpayer as a graduate student. This caused the State to grant him an additional $on his NYS refund for 2012. Both ** *** and myself did not catch this on the return. It is obviously not an intentional error- If the State felt it was, they would have penalized the taxpayer. As the NYS paperwork stated and we also told ** ***, he now just needs to return the $which was given to him because of the error. I have paid the interest the State charged him due to the error so in my eyes, he has been made whole. I once again apologize to him- I did my very best to give him an outstanding job- I did in fact make a mistake- but I also did prepare an amended return (at no charge) and pay the interest charge in full the state requested

I am not asking for the agency to refund me the $200, but to refund me the fee that was charged to file the income taxes for the year Even though the agency claims it has been doing tax returns for over years, he obviously made a mistake on my tax forms (which has been admitted)The only acceptable solution to me would be to very least refund the fee charged for their service in the first placeThe amended tax return at this time would not matter to me because I have to call the IRS and spend my time fixing this issue when this problem should have never happened as I paid a professional who claims that he has been doing taxes for years

Review: I OBTAINED INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY AND PAID IN FULL THE AMOUNT THAT THEY ASKED $2553 IN SEPTEMBER 2013 TO TRAVELERS INSURANCE THROUGH THIS BROKER. ABOUT A MONTH LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER SAYING I OWED APPROXIMATELY $1800 AND IF I DID NOT PAY MY INSURANCE WOULD BE CANCELLED, THIS WAS A DEBT FROM A PREVIOUS INSURANCE WITH A SEPARATE BROKER ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY REYNOLDS REYNOLDS. WHEN I CONTACTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY DIRECTLY IT TURNED OUT I ONLY OWED APPROXIMATELY $1,000. I PAID THAT IN FULL. I QUESTION REYNOLDS WHY THEY WERE TRYING TO CHARGE ME AN EXTRA $800 BUT RECEIVED NO ANSWER. APPROXIMATELY 2 MTHS LATER I RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER STATING THEY WANTED ME TO ADD A NON LICENSED DRIVER TO MY INSURANCE BECAUSE WE RESIDE IN THE SAME HOUSEHOLD. WHEN I SHOWED PROOF HE HAD NO LICENSE EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THEN IN JULY OF 2014 I RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER THAT IF THEY DID NOT RECEIVE $233 THEY ASKED FOR IN DECEMBER MY INSURANCE WILL BE CANCELLED ONCE AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN I REITERATED THE INDIVIDUAL HAD NO LICENSE AND PROVIDED PROOF FROM THE COURT. NONE THE LESS THEY CANCELLED MY INSURANCE AND I FOUND OUT IT WAS CANCELLED VIA MAIL 3 WEEKS AFTER, SO THEN I HAD TO PAY A FEE TO DMV TO KEEP MY CAR ON THE ROAD.Desired Settlement: REFUND FOR THE AUGUST 2014 AND SEPT 2014 INSURANCEIN THE AMOUNT OF $425.50 AND AMOUNT PAID TO THE DMV FOR LAPSE OF INSURANCE IN THE AMOUNT OF $168

Review: We filed our income taxes for the year 2012 (personal income tax) from Reynolds & Reynolds Agency. All the information and the paperwork provided was accurate as well as honest including the 1098-T (which clearly states [redacted] as a Graduate Student) and the statement made by us that [redacted] indeed was a part-time graduate student.

However, we received a letter from IRS on 1/**/15 which stated that we have been audited for the year 2012. According to that audit, the IRS "reduced or denied our claims because our records indicate that the tuition expenses you reported on your claim for College Tuition Credit or Itemized Deduction (Form IT-272), were for graduate studies, not undergraduate studies. Only undergraduate expenses qualify for the credit"

"Amount of Credit disallowed - $202.00"

Interest amount assessed - 28.34

Current Balance due - $230.34

The primary reason to go to a tax professional to prepare our taxes and pay the premium is to make sure everything is done correctly and whenever the IRS audits our return we do not have to go through paying them back what we thought was refunded to us legibly and correctly. I decided to call Reynolds and Reynolds Agency Inc to see what they can do to resolve the issue. Upon calling the agency, I was asked to drop the documents where [redacted] was going to look over it and give us a call back.

After dropping the papers, I received a call back from [redacted]. [redacted] insisted that he hadn't made any mistakes (without even looking over the paperwork) and we were to go ahead and reimburse the state $230.34 promptly. After going back and forth and at one point accusing me of being dishonest to do whatever I could do to get the maximum return, he decided to go over the return and promised to call back within two days.

He called back within an hour. He admitted that he made a mistake, not on the federal return but on the state return where the agency forgot to put me as a graduate student. At this point his only resolution to solve the problem was to refund me the interest of $28.34 (which has to be legally done either way). However from my point of view, the solution was not fair. Therefore, I told him to hold on to the interest and I am going to look into other avenues of solving the issue with the agency.

I believe the reason we paid a professional (which charges way more than what a free tax preparation software for a simple return) was to avoid any headaches in the future incase we get audited. This mistake which was made by the agency will cost countless hours of my time and energy in calling the IRS and trying to solve the problem. The only right thing for the agency to do will be at least refund the fee charged for filing the personal income taxes for the year 2012 along with the interest accrued.Desired Settlement: Full replacement of the fee charged for providing the service of filing personal income taxes for the year 2012 along with the interest accrued.

The amended return does not resolve the issue at hand. I am not asking you for the $200 back. I am asking for the fee that you charged for the service as it was improperly rendered.
