Rhea Contracting Reviews (2)

Company spilled paint on refinished hardwood floors, left handprints on painted surfaces, incorrectly placed baseboards and left baseboards detached.I purchased a coupon for [redacted] Rhea's Painting Service from [redacted].com on 12/26/2013 for $89. [redacted] Rhea arrived for painting service on 4/26/14. [redacted] offered to place baseboards, shoe mold, trim and paint all trimming also for $2/foot and $1/foot, respectively for a total price of $579 cash. [redacted] did not cover floors while painting and spilled paint on freshly refinished hardwood floors. Additionally, he did not properly secure baseboard to wall which resulted in areas of buckling. [redacted] failed to nail some areas of baseboard and shoe mold, but left pieces lying on the floor as if they were nailed to the wall. He left handprints on the painted walls and baseboards, which will require repainting. I have contacted [redacted] multiple times and he fails to meet any appointments or return my calls.Desired SettlementI am requesting reimbursement for the following: 1.Removal of paint from freshly refinished floors ($2/ sq foot)2. Baseboard and shoe mold materials purchased from home depot for the repairs as they were cut incorrectly and cannot be used by my new contractor (~$250)3. Paint ruined by his handprints (~$49/gallon)4. Refund for $579 cash payment5.[redacted] refund $89 via credit cardBusiness Response I spoke with[redacted] before the job was done and informed her that her floors and walls were buckled and out of square so the baseboards and moldings would not sit correctly against the wall and there would be some areas where the baseboard sat very high. We painted all baseboards and moldings outside so I wonder how we dripped paint all over the place?? We put down numerous drop cloths and covered everything. I pointed out to her boyfriend that there were paint drops on the floor and they were white. We used yellow and blue. He stated that they were there before we started the job, he stated that the last contractor splattered paint when he primed the walls. We checked all walls before leaving to make sure there were no missed areas. Along with her boyfriend we found no missed areas or dirty hand prints. [redacted] and I scheduled a time for me to stop by, I arrived at the specified time to look at her issues. She never arrived and did not answer her phone when I called. I left a card and had to go back to my work and never heard from her again until now. She contacted [redacted] and demanded a refund, they contacted me and I informed them there would be no refund. We performed the work and tried to address her issues to no avail. I will not refund her money. I have pictures of work performed and a signed sheet stating that the job is satisfactory. She had previously stated to me that she had hired a few contractors and that they took her money. From most of the work I saw, that she hired out, was done okay. Not perfect but okay. She states that she is low on money in her remodel loan, so in order for some jobs to fit in the budget they have to be done a little under par but acceptable enough to pass. You get what you pay for. Do not try and take back from the people who do the work correctly. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)Please see supporting documents, videos, photographs, and phone records to discredit statements alleged by [redacted] Rhea. I have hired a different company to correct the numerous errors cause by [redacted] Rhea.1. "...floors and walls were buckled and out of square so the baseboards and moldings would not sit correctly against the walls..."a. Photograph of work completed by [redacted] Rhea - please note baseboard nailed to wall preventing attachment of shoe mold. Excessive gap between baseboard and floor were so large, it prevented attachment of shoemold. Also not shoe mold attached in elevated fashion, which is incorrect placement. There is no caulking present on seals between baseboard - shoe mold or trim and baseboard. This is incorrect placement. This is how [redacted] Rhea left my property with unattached pieces lying on the floor. The walls are flush and no 'buckling' present.b.c. Photos and details of corrections to work performed by [redacted] Rhea are pending. A reputable contractor has been hired and is in process of repairing [redacted] Rhea's work.2. "We painted all baseboards and moldings outside so I wonder how we dripped paint on the floors and they were white."a. I agree baseboards that were improperly painted outside and transported into to house following painting. This practice permitted dirty handprints on freshly painted walls and on baseboards during the placement of baseboards. Any adequately trained professional contractor knows baseboard, molding and trim must be painted while in place as proper caulking cannot be performed until baseboards are in place. The final step of the process is painting.b. Window and door trim were painted in the house. Thus white paint (window and door trim) and [redacted] Cream paint (on walls) was spilled on brand new mahogany floors.c. See numerous paint drippings, handprints and dirt spots due to incorrect proceduresd.3. "We put down numerous drop cloths and covered everything"a. No drop clothes were placed during [redacted] Rhea's visit.b. I placed brown paper prior to [redacted] Rhea's arrival. He did not place any drop clothes.(surveillance from video camera available upon request)4. "I pointed out to her boyfriend that there were paint drops on the floor and they were white. We used yellow and blue"a. [redacted] Rhea used cream paint on bedroom wall and dripped on brand new mahoganyfloors. He used blue paint in living room and dripped on freshly refinished floors in livingroom.b. [redacted] Rhea used white semi gloss paint for the window trim and door trim (already inplace). Additionally white semi gloss paint was used for baseboards already in place inliving room. (see photo of a few of numerous drippings)5. "He states the last contractor splattered pain when he painted the walls"a. This statement was never made as the walls in the house have never been primed. The previous contractors were never hired for any painting service.b. Additionally, the floors were refinished after the previous contractors completed the job, but before [redacted] Rhea appeared. Thus there were no paint spots on any of the floors. The first paint purchase was for [redacted] Rhea Contracting. [redacted] Rhea is responsible for all paint dripping on flooring and is responsible for fee to remove paint spot throughout master bedroom and living room.6. "We checked all walls before leaving to make sure there were no missed areas"a. Please see the missed areas in Statement 17. "Along with her boyfriend we found no missed areas or dirty handprints."a. Please see below photograph of dirty handprints left on walls and baseboard in Statement 18. "LaCresha and I scheduled a time for me to stop by, I arrived at the specified time to look at her issues. She never arrived and did not answer the phone when I called. I left the card and had to go back to my work and never heard from her again until now."a. Please see accompanying phone records and correspondence via text message discrediting Mr. [redacted] Rhea's statements.b. Also, please note house is under 24 hour surveillance monitoring. Video footage available for review upon request.9. "I have pictures of work performed and a signed sheet stating the job is satisfactory"a. I have never signed any forms. Any signatures are forged, therefore invalid and illegal.10. "She had previously stated that she had hired a few contractors and they took her money. From most of the work I saw, that she hired out, was done okay. Not perfect, but okay."a. [redacted] Rhea was never hired to evaluate the work performed by previous contractors as he is not qualified to do such. [redacted] Rhea does not have the proper training to install baseboards/molding in the correct sequence (prior to painting). The above statement is completely inaccurate and well beyond Rhea Contracting's capabilities.11. "She states that she is low on money in her remodel loan, so in order for some jobs to fit in the budget they have to be done a little under par but acceptable enough to pass."a. This statement is preposterous and unsupported. [redacted] Rhea charged $579 to paint and place baseboards in the master bedroom and paint trim in a living room. This fee is excessive and discredits [redacted] Rhea's belief that anyone is "low on money". The only reason I agreed to this fee was due to convenience and [redacted] Rhea's promise to perform acceptable work.b. I am not sure which loan he is referring to because final inspection occurred earlier this year. Official copies of loan signatures/dates available on request. Additionally, my loan status is not the concern of [redacted] Rhea. Lastly, work performed by Rhea Contracting would never meet the requirements of any inspector.12. "You get what you pay for. Do not try and take back from the people who do the work correctly."a. Work was not performed correctly. Another company has been hired to repair numerous errors made by Rhea Contracting. I would like a refund for labor, reimbursement for expenses to remove paint from flooring and reimbursement for wasted supplies (baseboards, molding, paint).Final Business Response
