Bait and Switch? We purchased four front balcony tickets for a [redacted] & [redacted] performance ($each)When we arrived at the theater, we were sent to the mezzanine level where we were told that the balcony was closed for the evening and our seats were being "upgraded"The attended was rude and curt, but I chose not to make a stink about it, believing that the new seats would be betterI was handed new tickets for the main floor where we were seated in the very back, far left section of the theaterAfter sitting there for a few minutes with my family, my daughter seemed upset that she could not see wellI returned to the ticket counter and asked why they had cancelled our seatsThey told me that it was actually "the performers" that decided to shut-down the balcony and that it was "out of their control" (the theater)They assured me that my seats were, in fact, an upgradeI returned to my seat to let my family know that [redacted] & [redacted] had actually cancelled our seats - rather upsetting to my daughter and her friendA few minutes later, a member of the theater staff came to find us and "upgraded us" from our already-upgraded seatsThey were better than the back of the theaterWe were now in the middleThe attendant apologized and brought us drinks/popcornWe watched the show and made the best of itI reviewed the seating chart and ticket prices the next morningThe theater originally "upgraded" us (and every other balcony seat purchaser) from seats that sold for $to seats that sold for $After complaining at the ticket counter, we had been moved to seats that sold for $So, to be clear, the Chicago Theater: Cancelled our seats Lied to us about "upgrading" our seats Sat us in seats with poor visibility and only moved us after we complained Never sat us in seats of equal value to the ones we purchased Never refunded any portion of our ticket price They obviously lied to everyone with a front balcony seat - so as to avoid refunding the difference in the price of the ticketThere is no point in purchasing tickets from a venue that does not honor your purchased seat, and lies to its customersIn my opinion, this is a clear case of "bait and switch"noun: bait-and-switch the action (generally illegal) of advertising goods that are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods

My wife and I purchased premium tickets with guaranteed access and wristband to the Brett Weinstein and Richard Dawkins event at the Chicago Theater We purchased our tickets in May The event was on October 23rd, we drove up from StLouis to Chicago Upon our arrival we were given wristbands to the meet and greet book signing after the event to meet the event speakers We arrived about min prior and the person who gave us a wristband said they are selling books by the entrance to the stage When I went over to buy a book they said they were sold out min before the event began
My wife and I watched the event and after it ended, the announcer came on the stage and thanked everyone and said if you have a wristband for the meet and greet please line up by the stairs outside the lobby My wife and I lined up with our wristbands At this point while we were walking through the line, security was stopping people to make sure they had a book They said, "everyone must h

Cancelled our seats
Lied to us about "upgrading" our seats
Sat us in seats with poor visibility and only moved us after we complained
Never sat us in seats of equal value to the ones we purchased
Never refunded any portion of our ticket price
They obviously lied to everyone with a front balcony seat - so as to avoid refunding the difference in the price of the ticketThere is no point in purchasing tickets from a venue that does not honor your purchased seat, and lies to its customersIn my opinion, this is a clear case of "bait and switch"noun: bait-and-switch
