Consumer would like Rhoton & Son to fix their duct work.

Review: we purchased a [redacted] heat pump off of this group in January 2013. Since then it has had to be worked on 5 times in less than 2 years. I filed another complaint with you all over [redacted] and they have decided that the problems we are now having is due to the installation of the duct work, and are not going to do anything and they said that we needed to get the installation fixed which will cost us more money out of our pocket. I feel that they did a HURRY UP and get the money job. So now we aregoing to have to fork out more money. Everytime we had to call them it would take up to 3 days to get them here to fix it and to this day we still do not have a clue what they have done to our unit. We had a man come out and check our unit and duct work and he didn't think the installation was done very good. They did not insulate any of the boots that go into the vents. They didn't downsize any of the ducts coming out of the return. the insulation is coming out of the ductsbecause the tape is not sticking they left the wires hanging they taped the indoor unit upand countless other thing. [redacted] sent a man out to inspect it also and he said the same thing about the installation being wrong. As of right now the unit is constantly runningon auxillary an my light bill has been $250 for 2 months because it runs nonstop. I really dont know what else to say because the last time I filed a complaint with the Revdex.com nothing got done about anything and quiet frankly I think it is hopeless filing a complaint but at least you and every one that sees this will know not to deal with rhoton and son or [redacted] for that matter, to get a heat pump installed. because both companies donot stand behind their work. Word of mouth goes along way and so far I have been singing like a canary about the Revdex.com and [redacted] and Rhoton and Son. Hopefully after this complaint something will be done about my heat pump and the installation. I feel that everyone needsto know that thingsdoesnot get done even going through you allDesired Settlement: I want my unit and duct work yanked completely out and started from scratch and ALL NEW put in from a REPUTABLE COMPANY with a LIFETIME warranty on labor AND parts and if need be someone come and inspect the finished product and make sure that everything is good.

Review: Rhoton and Sons was called by me to repair a heat pump. The man on the phone told me I could expect the need for replacement of the unit. As the unit is less than 10 years old and the issue was not that the unit was NOT working but that the air was not as cold as it should be, and I had used this company before I was not concerned about the unit needing to be replaced. The phone call was placed to their answering service and the repairman arrived later in the week. He informed my husband the part we needed was a valve and may cost over 800$. We are renting and will soon be in the process of buying this property and are close with the land lady. The same man came out the following week and went into the attic then came out and took a check from us which was an early rent check to help out our land lady, and a check from her for the balance, after he took the checks he informed my husband that the unit was shot an it would cost us $5,000.00 to replace it but that he would take the $860.00 off of the price. He said he had backed all of the gas into the outside unit and shut it down. Months of trying to reach the owner of the company had gone by before I finally saw the truck within a few miles of the house and called the answering service once again. The owner came out 3 weeks ago and told us the part should have been $38.00 and that his family member acted in his absence and acted on his own. He assured us he would be here by the end of last week to "make things right" as in replacing the coils. He never showed up and I called last friday and asked his answering service to remind him as it was getting very cold. The owners wife called Monday and assured us her son would be coming out to "make this right" by the end of this week. It is now Friday and after 3pm and we have not heard a word from this company. We still have no working HVAC system and the man representing the company has the $860.00 that my land lady paid him for the repair that was never done.Desired Settlement: As the owner admitted to gross overcharging of a part that did not fix the unit and gave us his word he would make things right I want my land lady refunded what is owed to her and we can get another company to fix this unit. If the company wishes to fix the unit CORRECTLY and refund her the balance that would be due less the charges for the parts we will accept this as well but it needs to be done as soon as possible. I am a nurse and I can not take care of the sick and injured of my community if I am always sick from sleeping in a cold house.

Rhoton and Son was called and I went myself the same day and determined there was a faulty indoor expansion valve on the indoor coil of the heat pump located in the attic of the home. The renters said they would need to get landlord approval and call us and id have them a close price but I figured it would be in the 800 To 900. Dollar range. late Friday evening they called wanting the work done on the following Monday our serviceman removed the valve and drove about a hour and a half to carrier corp. this was a special valve and two different ones was used, it was not available in a generic brand so we had to pay a higher price through carrier for the oem parts. The service personal was on the job for about 4 hours when the valve was installed they found that the inside coil was not holding a vacuum and pressure tested it . at that time it was evident that the customer had been running his system after he was told not to by myself because the valve would cause an obstruction and bust something or the coil would freeze in ice and force a breakage in it. The service personal told them that the valve was installed and the coil or system would need to be replaced. I talked to the serviceman because I was getting three different stories one from the renter one from the owner and his _ even now the renter is denying them going to the outside unit after they closed the service valves. he said they never went back around there. but if they hadn't the tools would still be there?? I discussed the situation with the renter and owner telling them they was no repair option. I had treats left from the owner and even a letter saying they was going to trash us as company on face book . my father was in their area and was asked to come talk to them be did but as I just asked him he said no I didn't say they was overcharged for the job" their statement says 38.00 was all should been charged , that is false our service call fee by its self is $60.00 .I went while I was in the area myself several days ago just to check to see where the leaks was myself and the renter and homeowner had cut the coil out and had it setting on the porch open to the air. I told them if they would drop it off id leak check it . once pressurizing it there was at least four large leaks , I tried to repair them and spent around $100.00 and 21/2 hours and the coil is so ruptured in so many places it cannot be repaired. the main cause of this was another company in the past adding to the length of the copper inside the coil putting extreme pressure and stress breaking the copper inside the coil. the repair was done and completed any additional work would be a extra charge. we have made several offers to replace the unit and refund the cost of the repair or a portion of it or order them a new coil . all was rejected .. after looking at this situation close our company did more than was expected and the additional cost to the unit would not be needed if the renter had not ran the unit after he was told not to. The customer did more damage when he sawed the coil out and placed it outside on the porch open to the environment, I am unsure if this unit ever could now be repaired and run without further problems.

No tools were ever used on this unit, there were no tools near the unit. This is a complete fabrication. The owner came out and looked at the outside unit himself, I was with him, and when I told him what had happened with the unit he had immedietly told us what the problem was. First of all, we are new to the area and have NO tools on the premisis. My husband knows nothing about heatpumps, and couldnt turn one on from the outside with a manual. He was told the unit was shot and from then on we knew turning it on would do no good anyway. We HAVE had another company come to look at the upstairs unit to tell us what went wrong up there. The coil had been so badly damaged by the companies people that the door wouldnt shut. We have proof of this. This company will verify this statement if asked to and we will not hesitate to call upon him. Rhoton and Son now has our coil after telling us they would fix it, and the Lady of the business who knows nothing at all about any of this situation was terribly rude to my land lady. There were no false stories told on our part. The unit was damaged by the intallation of the valve period. If they do not wish to "do the right thing" as the owner TOLD me and my husband he WOULD do, this will not end here.

Review: I am filing this complaint for two reasons:

1. I have always had issues with receiving service in a timely manner. Even during emergency times when our heat pump stopped working and we did not have any heat or air, Rhoton & Son would often take 1-2 weeks to assess our unit and resolve the issue(s). I was told Rhoton & Son is unable to resolve my latest service request because [redacted] is in the hospital. While this is understandable, I don't understand why the other employees were not capable of fixing our unit during his absence (my husband was told by the secretary that [redacted] is the only one that services units, as the others just assist with installation; I believe that's poor business). My unit did not work at all for two consecutive days when temperatures dropped to 16 degrees at night, and I have a 14-month old son to worry about. Emergency heat is the only thing that worked once the unit did start working. I have used emergency heat for two consecutive weeks to heat my home, and doing so is going to significantly increase my electric bill.

2. As a result of not being able to get my heat pump serviced by Rhoton & Son, I have hired another contractor to inspect and service our unit. This business has assessed our unit and found several major flaws that could have been avoided. According to the other contractor, the unit is not wired properly, the thermostat is not programmed correctly, the reversing valve is installed incorrectly, and there is a major leak of Freon. The reversing valve alone is going to take 3-4 hours for my new contractor to fix. Because of the inadequate job performance from Rhoton & Son, I am paying the new contractor to fix all of the problems they left behind. Fixing these issues is going to result in high labor costs. The contractor is returning next week to inspect the duct work, as I now question it's quality.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a full refund for labor costs that will be billed to me by the new contractor once the job is complete. Cost of Labor was still under warranty upon my initial service request to Rhoton & Son, and my continuous requests two weeks thereafter. I am also requesting a partial refund of my electric bill, as I have been using emergency heat for two weeks.

I no longer want Rhoton & Son to service my unit, as it is clear that their work is inadequate. I WILL NOT use them in the future, nor will I recommend them to others. I AM NOT interested in receiving service from them as part of the resolution to my complaint.
