It was a great experience

Today is the last of three days in the RichDad Business Mastery class. I signed up for the $500 class with high hopes that it'd fill in the gaps in my business knowledge, and help me launch my personal business. Despite being a real estate-focused company, RichDad promotes this class as being able to help all types of businesses.

Day 1 of the class involves a bunch of feel good motivational stuff mixed with brainwashing about how credit cards work. The instructor convinces students that getting more credit out is actually good for your credit score and that you shouldn't worry about using credit if it's for your education or business. They're intentionally planting a seed here for later when they upsell students to a program ranging from $5,900 to $18,900.

Day 1 was mainly about how to get money from banks, friends, family, and how to take it out of your retirement account. The instructor goes on to talk about how he took money out of his retirement account, and you're foolish not to. Towards the end of the day, one of the students spoke up about the fact that the instructor hadn't given us anything valuable. The instructor, with a cocky grin, proceeded to share what he thought was impressive. He showed us mind mapping software. This software is in no way affiliated with RichDad. It's owned and operated by a separate company. While it does work nicely, it's a glorified note-taking software. That's right, the value you get from day 1 of RichDad's Business Mastery class is they will show you how to use someone else's note-taking software!

The first half of day 2 is simply a laundry list of things you need to do to start a business. You could get the same list online for free. The class doesn't drill down into how to do those things. They tell you, "It'd take me way to long to teach you this now. You need to sign up for the advanced course." Then, after lunch, they start the sales pitch for the advanced program and show you real estate software. Reminder, this is not a real estate class! They spent hours mixing real estate software with promoting their advanced class.

They also promise you a free mentoring session with one of their business masters. My session was with a former student in his early 20s who now runs a "business" on Amazon. The mentor admitted that he wasn't sure how he could help me and said I'd need to talk with a more advanced mentor, then spent the remainder of our time trying to upsell me to the advanced program. It wasn't even a mentorship session; it was a sales pitch!

I've decided not to attend day 3, and I'm all but certain they won't give my $500 back. Lesson learned, but I hope I can spread this message to other people, as I'd hate to see this company continue to rob people.
