Rick's Aloha Music failed to alert me when a trombone I had left there on consignment sold and has since failed to pay me the $131.25 due ($175 selling price less 25% consignment fee). Over the past few months Rick has promised to call me three specific times regarding payment and each time he has failed to do so without any apology or justification. I have gone back to the shop two times only to be told by Rick that he required several weeks to find the trombone sales receipt in the "mountain of papers on his desk" (trip one) and that he'd forgotten his checkbook (trip two though he'd told me when I called two days earlier that he was "looking at my check"). These lame excuses and continuous lack of follow-through do not leave me with any confidence that Rick is intending to pay me what is owed.
I reconcile my consignment file every 30 to 60 days. At that time checks are prepared and dispersed with my non fixed payables. Consigners are not paid at the exact time of sale as this would be difficult to do. These pay outs are mailed out based on many factors such as new inventory acquisition, accounts receivables pending payment and other cash flow considerations. The consumer was paid as agreed.
