Rid-A-Pest Inc Reviews (1)
Technician did not explain that what was being signed was a one year contract, was told "sign here for today's services".Tech's spraying pet bowlsWhen I bought my home, I decided it would be a good idea to have a pest control service spray my home. I called Rid-A-Pest in Morehead City, spoke with a women over the telephone, and she had told me about all the services that they offered. I decided to pay the first time fee of over $100 for the tech to come to my home and do a complete interior and exterior spray. I was told that even the entire attic would be sprayed. The tech came to my home, sprayed the inside, stood at the top of the ladder to the attic and threw pellets in the attic, sprayed outside, sprayed over top of my shoes, pet toys and even my dogs food and water dish. I was very upset but I didn't worry about mentioning it to him. When he was complete, he asked me to sign a piece of paper for "today's services". A couple months later another Rid-A-Pest tech came out, I allowed him to spray and I told him how disappointed I was with the first guy. He assured me that I would have no problems with him. The mixture that he sprayed was so thick that it left a white reside all over my home and porches. I had to clean the floors for days to get the residue up. I called Rid-A-Pest in Morehead City and asked that they no longer send techs out, I was very upset with the services I had received. At that point in time, I was notified that the piece of paper that I signed my first day was a ONE YEAR CONTRACT. I was never told about this contract, not over the phone when I originally called the set up the appointment, or when the tech came to my home. I asked that they waive the one year contract because of how unsatisfied I was and I was told they could not do that and they charged me a $65.00 cancelation fee. I have asked to speak with a supervisor, who was not helpful, I have even called the Wilson location, who then just referred me back to the Morehead City location. I am so disappointed with the way this business has handled my complaint. Desired SettlementI would like for Rid-A-Pest to not charge a cancelation fee, as I was never told that I was in a contract. I also got an additional bill for another spray, which I never had.Business Response Rid A Pest Inc did not receive any notice of this complaint until a letter arrived postmarked March 10, 2014. We pride ourselves on quick response times to any customer concern. The customer issuing the complaint regarding our service agreement and the quality of the service did sign a one year service agreement when service was started.(Copy of signed agreement as well as service orders for work performed at the location along with time-in/time-out and products used available upon request)The staff in our office explain our services and discuss the agreements with customers over the phone prior to scheduling any services so that we can determine the proper time to allow for the service as well as allow for the service agreement to be filled out prior to the initial treatment. The agreement also shows in large print the duration of the agreement, the charge for the agreement, and the locations of the property to be serviced. We have a copy of the signed agreement and also left a copy of the agreement on 6/21/13. It was the understanding of Rid A Pest that all services performed between 6/21/13 and 12/13/13 were performed in a satisfactory manner since no concerns had been shared with our company at that time. The following complaints were issued by the customer to The Revdex.com on 2/5/2014 ...almost 8 months after the initial visit and 2 months after the customer requested the service be cancelled.Rid A Pest has responded to the complaints below:1. "The tech came to my home...... sprayed shoes, but I didn't mention it to him" Both of the technicians that serviced the customer's home are Certified with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture as Certified Applicators. This means that they have received the proper education and passed exams and field tests showing that they can properly follow chemical labels and apply products in a safe manner. We have never received complaints regarding the application of treatments by either technician. However, if there was a concern with the application of the products used on 6/21/13, the customer should have called us so that we could have addressed any concerns promptly.2."They said they would "spray" the attic", but instead "They stood at the top of the ladder and threw pellets in the attic". Rid A Pest uses several different treatment strategies to control pests in homes. Some pest infestations are best treated with liquids by using a "spray" while other insects are best controlled using granule baits. The presence of cockroaches in the attic of the customer's home indicated that the best treatment solution would be to broadcast bait granules throughout the attic space. This was achieved by spreading the granules from the attic opening. There was no need to enter the attic space to provide the proper treatment.3. During the second quarterly visit "he sprayed so thick it left...residue all over my home and porches. I had to clean floors for days to get residue up" The products used in spray solution are all registered and the label application rates and locations are approved through North Carolina Dept. of Agriculture and the EPA. These products are also water soluble. Any product applied would have little visible residue and any residue seen would easily clean up with simple cleaners or detergents. Rid A Pest could not have left residue on the customer's interior floors on the service date mentioned since no interior service was performed on that day.4. The customer stated that she called to cancel service and requested that no technicians return to the home due to her dissatisfaction. Our records indicate that the customer contacted our office to cancel only... with no reason for cancellation provided. This is the second instance where the customer did not notify Rid A Pest of a concern with the treatment applied at the home, first on 6/21/13 and again on 12/18/13. In the rare occurrences where customers do express concerns with treatments, we immediately have a service manager respond and visit the location to determine if the application of the treatment products was made incorrectly. The customer never notified Rid A Pest of a concern with treatment. We service thousands of customers throughout Eastern North Carolina on a monthly basis. We use service agreements so that customers can be assured that the service they are receiving protects their home in a professional manner and also allows them ample recourse as outlined in the agreement, if that is not done. If the customer was concerned with the application of the treatment, Rid A Pest should have been notified of such so that corrections, if needed, could have been made.We would be more than happy to credit the customer's account for the cancellation fee and the third quarter service. We have a long history of satisfied customers. We have been voted the Most Trusted Name in Pest Control throughout Carteret County and strive to maintain that vote of confidence. We are deeply sorry that our service did not meet the expectations of one of our customers. We hope that we can make every effort in the future to ensure that our service exceeds our customers' expectations. We thank the customer for contacting us so that we can work to improve our service for future customers.
