font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman';">Mr. [redacted] brought his tire/wheel in for a flat repair. Once we took the tire off the wheel we noticed tire liner residue on the inside of the tire. This is what we see when the tire has been driven while flat for some time. The tire becomes so flat that the rim compresses on the inner liner of the tire and "grinds" the liner into pieces. We ordered him a new tire and completed the service. When he picked it up the wheel was dirty from the techs handling the wheel while they where replacing the tire. It was not "covered in mud' as he claimed. I agree we should have wiped the wheel off a bit before it was returned to the customer.
When Mr. [redacted] was talking to [redacted] he stated to him that his wife had driven on the tire while flat but she had not done so for very long. In order for there to be that much residue on the inside of the tire she had to have driven on it for some time. With such low-profile tires it is much harder for the driver to tell when the tire is going flat. Once they realize it is flat, the tire has already been ruined from the rim riding on the tire inner liner. At this point the tire has been shredded on the inside and is no longer repairable.
He also stated that after he went home and cleaned his wheel he noticed some chips and scuffs on the wheel that he felt we did. The tire changers that we use are a front side touchless changer. The only way our changer can scratch a rim is if the dismounting bar jumps off the wedge and will gouge the wheel. It would be a much larger spot than what he is talking about because it is imposable to stop the machine in that short of a distance. The spots that he is talking about could have come from many different things such as driving on while flat and normal everyday use. We do not believe the marks on the rim where a result of our technicians working on the wheel. We have damaged wheels in the past and we have replaced or repaired wheels when we feel it is something we have done. We informed him we do not believe this is something we did and would not reimburse him for it.
As he was leaving he claimed that he was going to cancel his visa card for this transaction. We are confident enough that the marks where done prior to wheel coming to our facility that we are willing to go to court if he does cancel his transaction or pursue other actions.
Sincerely,
[redacted], Owner

While Mr. [redacted] did accurately represent the conversations that has taken place, what he failed to mention was that the wheel was in his companies possession for three days while waiting for the new tire to arrive. During those three days, the wheel was sitting his shop where it could have easily been tipped over onto its face or hit by tools, ect. to cause the damage. When I asked Mr. [redacted] if he could provide proof that the damage did not occur while waiting for the new tire to arrive, he said that he could not. He immediately dismissed any possibility, even the slightest chance  that his company did any damange. It is true that I did threaten to stop payment through my credit card, however after consulting legal advice over the matter I was advised that by doing so could be ground for theft since I still have the tire in my posession.. Mr. [redacted] has been paid and I did not stop the payment however the issues is far from resolved. My wheel was in fact covered in mud, and Mr. [redacted] has no way to dispute it other than what his employees tell him. Of course they are going to down play it to try and try to avoid getting into any trouble.
