Ripple Management

Review: At the end of July I applied for an apartment after seeing it along with a $50 application fee, we were applying for a Sept. 1st move in date. I submitted my application to Ripple Management after business hours. My husband and I had applied for two apartments, in case we were not accepted for one. We applied for one sooner than this particular one through Ripple Management. We did receive confirmation from the other apartment by the next day after I had submitted the application through Ripple Management. I immediately (the day after submitting my application) called Ripple Management and spoke with a women to explain that we had chosen a different apartment and did not want/need them to process our application. She assured me it would be noted, and it had not been started yet. Not hearing anything I assumed it was taken care of. Then I notice Sept. 15th, my check for $50 application fee was processed, and referencing my check stubs, it shows that this was to Ripple Management. I called and spoke with a gentlemen and explained the situation, that we had called and cancelled the application. He knew exactly my first name and the apartment we had looked at, but then told me he could not find my application so he would have to call me back. I thought this was odd because he either had an extremely remarkable memory or he was lying about having my application on hand. After an hour, I received a call back stating that they processed my application and we were approved so I am not entitled to my $50 application fee. I explained that this did not make sense to me because I had called prior to the application being processed and was assured it would not be processed. He said they had no note stating that we wished to cancel and we were approved for the apartment. I let him know this seemed suspicious to me for the fact that we never received a call/email stating we were approved for the apartment? So surely somebody should have known we were not interested. He did not dispute the fact that we never received an approval notice, he just said the application was processed and that we were not getting our $50 returned. Also, it did not make sense to me that they cashed the check almost two months after receiving this. I do understand the fact that I applied for two apartments and had the chance of being approved for both, however; I feel that it is a bad business practice not to admit that at error was made on their end. First, I called prior to the application being processed to save them the time of processing this. Second, we never heard an approval from them regarding this unit, so they must have known that we did not want it. Third, why was this check cashed almost two months after applying and not hearing from them?Desired Settlement: I would like them to return my $50 application fee, because I feel that I should not be charged because somebody in their office did not note that we would like our application cancelled, or somebody mistakenly processed this. Also, for the fact that we never heard back from them regarding our approval, making me think that they already knew we did now want to apartment and the fact that the check was not cashed until two months after initially applying.
