Alcohol Detection Systems’ (ADS) ignition interlock devices are NHTSA certified and tested to comply with state requirements Each device is set to detect alcohol and prevent the driver from starting the vehicle if any “type” of alcohol is detected Although you were able to start the
vehicle and provide the rolling retest successfully, certain products, foods and drinks contain alcohol (i.e., bread products, mouthwash) and, if consumed, depending upon the concentration level of said product in the user’s mouth, an alcohol reading may be detected by the device upon providing the next sample ADS recommends to our drivers to avoid using, eating or drinking any products that may contain alcohol to minutes prior to starting the vehicle, and to abstain from using eating or drinking any products that may contain alcohol while driving to avoid a possible positive sample It appears from the scenario described in this correspondence that the device was working properly by not allowing the vehicle to start when alcohol was detected The unit is programmed so that another attempt to start the vehicle is permitted minutes after a positive sample is detected; you were allowed to start your vehicle minutes from the second positive reading, therefore, the positive alcohol reading was most likely caused by the product you consumed A technician would not need to come out to the vehicle to check the unit if a positive sample is provided as a driver is allowed to retest every minutes Once a clean sample is provided, like in your case, the unit will allow the starting of the vehicle If the unit was malfunctioning, an error message would have been displayed on the handset and you would not have been permitted to retest at that point ADS’ customers are very important to us and all complaints and concerns are taken seriously Please feel free to contact our headquarters at ###-###-#### should you have further questions or concerns regarding our product or service

ADS' process for removal of the device is for the customer to first call the *** ** *** and obtain their approval to remove the device. With that approval, customers are asked to get the name of the individual they speak with at the state and the date they are eligible to have
the unit removed. With this information, they are to contact ADS' corporate office (where they scheduled the original installation and set up the recurring billing) to obtain a removal authorization number (RA#). Once ADS issues the RA#, the recurring billing is cancelled at that time.ADS' corporate office was not notified of the removal of the device and a RA# was never issued; therefore, the recurring billing was not cancelled and the credit card continued to be charged. Please be advised that ADS has confirmed the removal of the device and has refunded the January, February and March payments to the credit card charged and the recurring billing has been cancelled I apologize for the confusion and trust this addresses your concerns. Please feel free to contact ADS directly should you have any further questions at ***

Alcohol Detection Systems’ (ADS) Arizona representative, Michael C[redacted], spoke with Ms. [redacted] on June 21, 2017 and explained to her that the ignition interlock device is sensitive to heat and should be treated like other electronic devices and kept out of direct sunlight.  Mr....

[redacted] recommended that Ms. [redacted] remove the handset from the vehicle when not driving and keep the handset out of the direct sunlight to avoid overheating the device.  ADS’ Arizona customers who follow these instructions do not have issues with the device overheating, regardless of whether they have air conditioning in their vehicle.  When Ms. [redacted] had the device installed, she signed a lease agreement with ADS.  According to the lease agreement, if the device is removed prior to the 12 month term, there is an early termination fee due of $300.00.  Mr. [redacted] agreed to reduce that fee to $150.00 to cover ADS’ expenses.    ADS will honor the reduced early termination fee of $150.00 and have the unit removed from Ms. [redacted] vehicle if she chooses to have the device removed. I trust this information addresses Ms. [redacted] concerns.  Please feel free to contact ADS directly should you have any questions at [redacted].
