A cancelation made within 72 hours of the arrival date is subject to payment of the first nights lodging unless the room is filled. We feel this is quite liberal as many businesses will require payment for the two nights lodging which the business lost and/or a late cancelation fee. This customer received a government discount although they made the reservation as a private citizen. This individual was also a part of a group which made reservations for the meeting they wished to attend in town and that moved the cancelation period out to 30 days prior to arrival. Although we understand the loss of a child is a tragic event, this did not occur to the customer, rather, his friend lost a relative. We certainly would not add to the loss of a grieving parent. The call would have been cut short and we would have told the parent to return to their family and that the reservation would be canceled without hesitation. We are a small mom-and-pop operation in a very seasonal area and cannot afford to be excessively generous, we cannot assume other peoples responsibilities.However, noting the hostile attitude and willingness to avoid accuracy on the part of this customer we would rather dispense with the event rather than allow them the opportunity to further damage our good name. Although we are the ones being denied the opportunity to earn a living we will return the payment for a room that would not have been otherwise left vacant.

Review: My credit card was charged $92.40 without my consent. I was told that due to my circumstance, death of my friend's daughter, that if I canceled my room reservation the cancelation fee would be waived. After contacting Nancy at the Riverside Inn, which is the person who made the verbal agreement with me, she advised me that they would NOT reverse the fee.Desired Settlement: All I want is what is rightfully mine, the $92.40 which was stolen out of my account from The Riverside Inn.
