on January 8, 2020 I applied for an apartment at *** I spoke with man who stated to me to get Drive's Licenses, Social Security card, Bank statements, address of managers I've had in past three years. And Money order for forty five dollars. I return with these items. The manager takes my items then tells me I am number ten on the waiting list. I stated to him that I wanted my forty five dollar money order back. I would not wait to be number ten on the list. He then told me he had to keep my money order he will use it to check my credit. He refuse to give me my money order back. Stating he will use it to check my credit and I will be on list for six months. I stated to him that I have another apartment that will let me in right away. He still refuse to give me my forty five dollar money order back. I stated I would be contacting Better Business Burial.
Refund I would like my forty five dollar money order return to me. He took my forty five dollars telling me he had an apartment for me. Then stated I was number ten on the list. I did not ask to be placed on a list, I was on waiting list for this apartment, I thought when he called me he had an apartment for me. He took my money did not have an apartment for me. I would ask that my money be refunded.
Riverwood Place is an affordable Housing community that operates from a waiting list. When a unit is about to become available, we call those applicants that are next in line that matches the income requirements for the particular unit for an interview. Out of the 1st ten applicants, *** was the only one who fit the income qualifications. Therefore, she was the only one qualified for the unit. The interview consists of a credit and criminal background check which is a $45 non-refundable fee and the verification of the applicant's income and assets. The interview takes about 1 (one) hour or longer and the complete process can take about 2 to 3 weeks depending on the third-party verifications. *** was aware of this process because it was explained to her prior to and during the interview.
*** gave us the $45 money order and we ran the report. The report is received immediately. While reviewing the credit report and certain items on the report with ***, she decided this was a lengthy process she abruptly stopped the meeting and left. *** stated that she needed housing immediately. One hour later I received a call from *** informing me that she had found a place to live and wanted her $45 money order back. I reiterated that is the cost of the credit and background check fee and is not refundable.
