RJL Handyman Services Reviews (%countItem)

RJL Handyman services did not complete the repairs on my house that I paid them to complete.
I contacted Randy *** to complete a simple bathroom shower insert replacement and to paint the interior of my house.

He assured me that he is trustworthy and that his wife is a realtor so he does a ton of jobs like this.

About a week into the project he texts me letting me know that he will be finished up over the weekend and that he needed payment. I drove down from Dallas to meet him at my lake property and he and his team seemed to be doing a great job on the shower insert and assured me he would have the house painted and finished by the end of the weekend.

We walked the house and he showed me how the window seals were previously painted over and that is the reason why the paint is now peeling. He proceeded to tell me he would do it "right" and sand down the window seals and prime them before painting.

I felt good about everything he was telling me so I proceeded with his request and went ahead and paid him. BIG MISTAKE!

Fast forward to over a month later and I can not get the guy to finish the job. I still do not have any shower fixtures or handles, and the painting on the house was never completed. Instead he painted over the peeling paint and decided to "touch up" the walls instead of painting like I requested and paid him for.

Every week it is a different excuse and the job has yet to be completed. I have given him plenty of time to make this right and he has failed to do so.

I would NOT recommend his services to anyone!

Desired Outcome

RJL Handyman did not complete the repairs I paid them to complete. I would like a refund for half the price I paid.

I have attempted to reason with the client on this matter though the client has ceased all communication.

My team and I complete ALL painting and other work as specified in the approved work order that included the entire scope of work to be completed. This included painting the walls and touching up trim/baseboards as needed. The work order that was approved by the client before work began states that walls in specific areas of the home were to be painted and base boards were to be touched up as needed. These task were completed in a professional and workmanlike manner. My team and I have several photos to show the work that was performed and that these tasks were completed. Anyone please feel free to reach out if you are interest and would like to see the photos. We completely took out the shower and installed a new shower kit, we painted, power washed, and performed several other various tasks as well.

The ONLY task that we were unable to complete was the installing of shower fixtures.

We were unable to perform the installation because there was an unforeseen plumbing task that needed to be performed by a LICENSED PLUMBER before we could proceed with installing the fixtures. The client declined to hire a plumber on their own and this was not a task I could carry out. I am not a licensed plumber and some tasks, though they seem small, MUST be performed by someone with a licenses to perform such tasks. To try to get the job completed in a timely manner, I contacted a plumber myself to complete the work needing to be done so I could install the fixtures. I offered to pay the plumber out of my own pocket as well.

The plumber was backed up with work and would not be able to get to the job for about 2 weeks. This was not satisfactory for the client, though the client still did not wish to hire a plumber on their own that might could get to the job sooner.

On the day the contracted plumber was to arrive to complete the plumbing task, the client stopped communicating with me. Therefore the plumber was unable to complete the task, which left me unable to complete the shower fixture install.

Through *** platform, I have offered a $50 refund to the client for this ONE incomplete task. However, I have not heard back from the client on this purposed resolution.

I am still willing to offer the $50 refund. With the client living out of town, I would need to know by what method the client would like to receive these funds. I can send a check or pay with card if the client has a secure platform for receiving payments by card.

It is always my goal to do the best I can by each client and treat them as I would wish to be treated in every circumstance. However, even with the best of efforts, not everyone can be pleased, agreeable, or even reasonable.

I'm hoping this is not the case in this situation as I've not had any negative complaint concerning the quality of my work in the 20+ years I have been in this industry, nor in the 5+ years since starting my handyman business. I hope my track record with past clients will show that I am always willing go above and beyond for my clients and to always do whats fair and honest to resolve any disputes if they arise.
