seriously and are surprised and disappointed that this complaint has been made. With respect to the allegations set forth in the above-referenced complaint #[redacted], they are simply not true and kJ's Auto Pros, Inc. stands behind our treatment of the Complainant in this instance. The Complainant's daughter visited our shop on November 20th, 2017 with a 2005 Honda Civic that had 174,685 miles on the odometer. She then put us on the telephone with her father (the Complainant herein) and he indicated that her vehicle needed the head gasket replaced and that he had been contacting repair shops in the area and could not find any shop to make the repair. We agreed to complete the requested service. The Complaintant was unmistakably clear and gave us explicit instruction that the only thing he wanted done to the vehicle was a replacement of the head gasket and no other service. Our shop undertook to complete the replacement of the head gasket on the 2005 Honda Civic. During the repair, we noticed several diagnostic/warning lights illuminated on the vehicle's dash (check engine, air bag, etc) and we contacted the Complainant to inform him of our discovery. Again, the Complainant reiterated that NOTHING else was to be done to the vehicle but the replacement of the head gasket. Per his request, no diagnosis of the issues causing the problem was performed. My ASE Certified Master Technician replaced the vehicle's head gasket and changed the engine oil. While a lube, oil and filter were not specifically requested by the Complainant, the engine oil must be replaced anytime a head gasket is replaced. During the replacement of a head gasket, the motor is open and the head is off, which means that the oil passages and the coolant passages are open right next to each other. As a result, it is standard practice that an oil change must be done just in case any coolant or other debris gets in the oil. As part of our head gasket replacement on the Honda Civic, we did a full oil change, lube and filter. When the head gasket service was completed, our technician noticed that the brake lights were not functioning on the vehicle and the Complainant's daughter was notified of same. She then authorized our shop to repair the brake-light wiring, which we did. A copy of the November 21, 2017 invoice documenting the entire repair has been re-printed and attached to this response for reference. On the invoice, in capital letters, it clearly stated "BE ADVISED NO GUARANTEE ON INTERNAL ENGINE DUE TO HIGH MILEAGE." The invoice also clearly stated "CHECK ENGINE LAMP AND AIR BAG LAMP ARE ON. NO DIAGNOSIS PERFORMED" as well as "CUSTOMER REQUEST CHANGE HEAD GASKET NO DIAGNOSIS PERFORMED." These notices on the invoice concerning the state of the vehicle were placed in all capital letters to stress their importance. Once the service was completed, the invoice was paid and the Complainant's daughter picked up the vehicle and drove away from our shop. Approximately 2 weeks later, the Complainant called our shop to allege that we had failed to put any oil in the 2005 Honda Civic and demanded that we put a new motor in his daughter's car. In disbelief, I personally went back and viewed the footage of our shop cameras during the head gasket service and I personally observed my ASE Certified Master Technician change the oil (which included putting new oil in the engine). We also have photographs of the repair (as we do all of our repairs). I informed the complainant that, of course, we put oil back in the engine and that the vehicle would not have made it past the central interchange in Akron had we not; let alone the 280 miles that had been put on the vehicle since it left our shop. At the time, the vehicle was located in Bucyrus. The Complainant became very upset and demanded that we replace the motor. In an attempt to resolve the situation, we agreed to have the car towed back to our shop so that we could take a look at the engine. On December 11, 2017, we had [redacted] drive all the way out to Bucyrus to retrieve the Civic and tow it back to our shop. Our shop paid the Complainant's $300.00 tow bill. The documented number of miles this car was driven since it previously left our shop was 280 miles. We calculated this number by taking the mileage on the car when towed in and deducting the mileage recorded on its service date of November 20, 2017. No engine of any kind will travel 280 miles with no oil in it. When we took a look at the engine, it was full of oil (which Complainant alleges he put in). The vehicle remains sitting at our shop to this day and we have attempted to reach the Complainant on several occasions. The Monday after the tow, we called 1-419-569-9781 at 9:25 a.m. and left a message. On another occasion, I personally talked to the Complainant's daughter. She requested I try her Father again, which I did. I left another message. At this time our service manager inquired if Complainant would like an estimate for replacing the Civic's motor. He was told no by the Complainant. On March 26, 2018, our service manager offered once again to write an estimate for the motor. He was informed that Complainant was not paying for a motor. Neither the Complainant nor his daughter has come to retrieve the vehicle and it sits at our shop to this day.
