In speaking with Karen our Counter Clerk, she said Mr *** asked what prop repairs cost, after repair order was written and signed, and Karen responded, as a clerk (not technician or Prop Rebuilder - we send out props to a Sublet Repair Service in Southwest Michigan), she responded they are from $& upThis is an accurate answer as aluminum props cost from $and upHowever, Bronze is old-time rare material and premium
Ed called our Sublet Prop repair center after receiving complaint today from Revdex.comJim, owner of the repair center, said he remembers the prop repair wellJim states the repair is a BRONZE Sailboat Propeller, two-blade design, no longer available in the size of 15" Diameter by 9" PitchJim states he charged to repair the Prop $standard fee, with $labor supplemental to heat propeller prior to pitch block as blades distortedWith Transport two ways, the total charges came to $but needed $plus tax $= $294.25, which is the actual charge
In inquiring today, I understand the customer, who dropped off the propeller and signed the repair order, was not the one who paid and picked up the prop but his wife did in his behalfShe objected to the price and Shelly and Karen explained that the repairs were not capped at $but subject to whatever the rebuilding charges usThe wife paid the balance with the understanding that if there was a difference, it would be adjusted backHowever, the call to Jim showed all charges were and Jim explained what a new prop cost versus the rebuild repair costsSo no change was warrantedHowever, I learned this was not forwarded to the customer
So in summary:
The customer authorized the work as seen on 5/18/repair order #
The customer asked casually what prop costs are, and was answered generally as "from $80..." As can been seen on scanned copy of repair order #6580, no quote was given
The charges are "usual and customary" for our marketJim of the prop shop quoted us $plus $repair plus handling two ways to and back from his shop, which we charge for, as well as Indiana Sales tax of 7%
