R+L Carriers

It's difficult to overstate how dysfunctional R&L Carriers is at operating its freight shipping service. In my experience, the company has never completed a delivery by the scheduled date.
You should expect to miss multiple days of work, ensuring someone is home to sign for a delivery during each missed appointment -- they will reschedule a minimum of 2 - 3 times before finally completing a delivery.

I've also learned there is no way of mitigating the company's unreliability; I've attempted to call and confirm the correct details for an expected shipment every day until the anticipated delivery day. Yet, they promptly loaded it on the wrong truck despite my preemptive calls and rescheduled again. Each time you call for support, a rude and inefficient switchboard operator greets you with a passive-aggressive tone that implies you should've studied all company departments before calling to be correctly routed. Next, you're transferred to a tracking support rep, in my case a disrespectful employee named Joy who plainly stated that customer retention was not her concern. Finally, you'll end up on the phone with dispatch, where they generally have no idea what's going on because none of these departments communicate with one another (especially when coordinating delivery requirements). From beginning to end, interacting with the employees and the overall ineffectiveness of the company is a costly and painful experience. I no longer purchase products from vendors who use R&L Carriers.

I ordered a massage chair from Amazon, like a large recliner chair but with massage. Something I bought as a gift for myself. I was so excited! The total price was around $1,000, a lot of money for me!
Long complicated story short, the 300 pound chair was supposed to be delivered "inside the main entrance." Tuesday morning I see a humongous package pushed up against and blocking the only I can enter or exit my house AND blocking the access to the handicap ramp! No notice or even ringing the doorbell.

Who the heck thinks it is appropriate to block an elderly handicapped person's only way of entry and exit or access to the handicap ramp?

I have been confined in my house for more than 2 full days. I finally had to call the police who graciously pushed the 300 pound chair where I was no longer a prisoner! After the chair was pushed out the way and I could access the ramp, I noticed that the delivery person apparently had pushed the 300 pound chair all the way up the ramp and the whole ramp now has scratches all the way down it!

Review: I ordered a mattress through [redacted] having no idea the merchant would ship through R&L Carriers who claim to only be a curbside delivery service. On the first delivery attempt the driver (a large man named who said his name was Robert) knocked on the door and said he didn't think he could carry the mattress up 9 steps. He asked if anyone was home that could help him then he very sarcastically asked me "if I was feeling strong today." He was rude form the very beginning, never properly explaining the situation. I found his attitude deplorable and refused the delivery. I called the Kearny, NJ office and complained but no one seemed to care. They rescheduled the delivery. I asked if they could send a different driver but they said there was no guarantee. On the second delivery attempt, "Robert" showed up again. This time I met him by the street and asked if I could inspect the mattress before signing for it seeing as it had been back and forth and may have been handled carelessly. He said no, I had to sign before I could even touch the mattress. He actually grabbed it from me and told me to talk to his dispatcher "Vinny" who also very rudely told me that I could not inspect the mattress. At this time I was holding the signature sheet and said I wanted to read it before signing it. Robert then physically grabbed the sheet out of my hand and left in his truck. With my mattress. After this disgusting display, I called the R&L Carrier corporate headquarters in Ohio and filed a complaint. I also called the merchant. The merchant requested I re-take delivery of the mattress. Today, 1/6/15, R&L Carriers sent the same driver to deliver the mattress. I had no dealings with him thankfully because I left a note telling him to leave it at the street but I could see him through the window. I didn't want him near my house after his actions the last time. I was fearful.I can't believe he continues to be employed considering his behavior, and that they sent him again.Desired Settlement: Accountability on behalf of the Kearny, NJ office of R&L carriers for their driver's actions and for employing this driver. Something like this will certainly happen again.
