Dear *** ***,

Review: I participated in an online auction of RL Liquidators, Inc. and traveled to Sacramento Friday, May 8 to pick up my winning bid items. I rented a truck and called ahead to let the staff know that I would be arriving just before closing time. They indicated that would not be a problem as long as I was paying with a credit card. I arrived on-site at 4:50 p.m. When it was my turn to pay, the clerk took my credit card and put it into a printer to scan it. I asked her not to and was told that the owner insisted on all cards being scanned (at that point I was furnished the owner and manager phone numbers) and that if I did not want them to have a copy of my credit card then I could just forfeit the items and not pay.Since I had left work early, rented a truck and traveled to Sacramento, I was not willing to forfeit these items, so I let them scan my credit card. I asked what they do with it and they said they put it into the safe for the owner. I do not agree with this business practice and had I not already committed to purchasing these items in advance, I would not have done so. I called the owner to complain and did not hear back.Desired Settlement: I would like the owner to discontinue this practice and respond to my valid customer complaint. I would also like to know if it is legal for this business practice to continue?
Review: RL liquidators advertised 0% Buyers Premium on select auction lots in green text beneath the item title. They are not honoring the ads, and are charging 13% premiums on these lots. This is clearly misleading advertising, and [redacted], the owner, is unbelievably rude and unprofessional in dealing with his mistake. He will not accept responsibility and is losing thousands of dollars in legitimate business over $43 in premiums. Misleading advertising is illegal in the state of California, and consumers will not stand by and be bullied by [redacted] and RL Liquidators.Desired Settlement: RL needs to cease and desist with all 0% Buyer Premium ads if they are not going to honor the listing. All listings that were listed in error should be sold at the price advertised.
