Roanoke Valley Community Credit Union Reviews (5)

Hello my name is Edward J. D[redacted] I am writing this complaint to what I feel is a illegal
practice at this business. It being on the being this month,I receive money from this credit union on an program of they would change you $25 overdraft fee to get money from an account if you no longer have money in your account.Which I had no problem paying, but the problem come in,because I receive $125 from them, was change $25,which made me owe them $150.
I took out $25 and place $100 in my checking account.Thinking I use the money to purchase things I need;(like a remote control I had order previously.) but it come to my attention they charge me $25 every time I use my debit card.Saying I had $0 in my account, my problem to this is ,Did I place $100 in my checking ,So this mean I have
money in my account to spend,so why I being hit with over charge fee.In the past my dealing with this credit union was excellent. But it seem now everybody it trying to get over on Edward [redacted]

If you are just going to use this business for branch banking it is OK. However, when it comes to more current and online banking systems they are lacking. Online systems are cumbersome and lacking in ease of use. Twice I have had credit card "compromise" without explanation as to how it was compromised. Dealing with their cc processing vendor to resolver this "compromise" always has you speaking to someone in the Philippines and still have difficulty getting basic information as to outstanding transactions on the compromised account. Customer service and online systems are about 20 years behind the times.

Review: I paid off my truck loan on 2/18/2015, and I still have not received my title to my 1997 ford ranger, I called the credit union on 04=03-2015, thevguy said the title would be mailed, I still have not received my title.Desired Settlement: contact the credit union about this problem.

Review: I saw an advertisement on the Roanoke Valley Community Credit Union website [redacted].org/ that is for a "Holiday Helper Loan". I decided to apply for this loan because the second tick on the advertisement says "NO CREDIT CHECK". My credit is poor and I am diligently trying to work on this and that is the only reason that I applied for this loan. I could use the extra money to help with the holidays and after speaking with two differnet individuals, was told to simply fill out the Holiday Helper Loan application and fax it in. Nothing else was required. I did this, and to my dismay several days later, I received a rejection notice stating the reason as a poor credit report from Experian. Obviously, I could have told them up front my credit was poor. When I called and spoke to [redacted], she said that the credit report is run to see if I am eligible to become a member at the credit union. I told her that noone said that they were running my credit and I was upset becasue it was now going to reflect as an inquiry. She didn't seem to care at all stating that they get the same complaints all the time. I then mentioned to her that I was so upset that I may make a claim to the Revdex.com and she wasn't worried about that either, stating that it wasn't the first and it wouldn't be the last.

In my opinion, this is horrible customer service. The problem never would have happened if they had accurate advertising. They even have commercials that say "open to non members". Now I will be suffering the consequences of their actions. It is unacceptable for the powers that be at Roanoke Valley Community Credit Union to simply say..."that's how we do things here"Desired Settlement: I'm not quite sure what could be the desired outcome of this case. I obviously do not want to bank with this business as I am unacceptable to them in the first place. I want something that will compensate my credit score.

Response:

Lets start with the application in which she completed and signed that states that this loan is for qualified members only. This means you are required to have a share account with the credit union. We did not pull a credit report for existing members or non-members to qualifier for the loan, but we are required by law to pull a credit report for non-members to be in compliant with the USA Patriot Act, Section 326 and we also have guidelines which are put into place to becoming a member. A non-member is required to meet our guidelines to be a par share holder in our credit union, if approved they will be required to deposit $5.00 and to maintain this $5.00 at all times. The person applying for a loan receives an application which states they have to be a member and be in good standings to apply for this loan. I reviewed her complaint and don't understand the comet about us pulling her credit from Experian because we do not use Experian nor do we report to Experian we use Equifax. The conversation that she speaks of with employees does not sound truthful. We train all of our staff to be very informative to any and all members or possible members. Roanoke Valley Community Credit Union wanted a loan product that would help people during the holidays and at the same time re-reestablish credit history to better their credit report. We are one of the few that believes everybody needs a helping hand from time to time, with that being said, we still have a government agency that applies regulations and we have to be in complaint with these regulations as a federal credit union. I hope this has been helpful. If you have any question on this issue you can give me a call.

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this response is not satisfactory. This agency implying that I have told an untruth about the conversation that was had with the individual over the phone is insulting. I do not wish to pursue further action against this agency through the Revdex.com but will spend every day of the rest of my life telling people not to use this agency because of their poor customer service and misleading advertisements.
