Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:Unfortunately, MrBenson is very confused about dates and conversations that took place as well as payment Actually I am very surprised he is still in business for himself, but not surprised on his response or 'make believe actions that took place' I was told by someone who had previously contracted with Mrbenson, that he takes short cuts and does not do all the work himselfBut we wanted our foyer painted and thought he was reputable - because I saw he was a member of *** *** Obviously, that information is incorrect as well, and his quality of work is less than acceptable I have since contacted *** *** and discussed our issue with them as wellWhat really happened with MrBenson, is as follows, because his memory may be diminished He arrived at our house and gave us an estimate for our foyer and then we asked about our bedroom He called and showed up a Friday evening, which we were not expecting him to paint, but to spackle the walls He actually was painting them in the master bedroom He then spackled some areas in the foyer on that same evening Prior to him even starting our job, I specifically asked him "are you doing all the work yourself." His response was yes, because the other person who contracted with him years earlier said that his "help" is never really that good- and they actually paid someone else to come back and repaint the same walls I have proof of the question, if MrBenson does not recall Then on Saturday, MrBenson showed up with another person to help him paint our walls, and I was shocked He never told us prior and never said anything that day Of course I asked the 'helper' were he worked prior, just to get a feeling of his experience Apparently he had some experience in that field, but His quality of work did not show it In fact, I do not believe they knew each other previously, because upon sitting in the living room, and over hearing their conversation, this helper had asked MrBenson, 'how long have you been doing this...' If they actually worked together previously, this type of conversation would not have taken placE, which means Mr Benson had someone with questionable painting skills come to our home and help paint This was not part of our agreementDuring their work, I expressed my dissatisfaction to MrBenson, because the bedroom had marks that needed to be fixed and he sent his help to fix it The job he did was so bad that MrBenson had to go back and repaint BOTH bedroom walls that his help touched up for him The work in the foyer was so bad that there was paint dripping from the doorways were it was painted When I questioned Mr Benson about this, he took his finger and wiped away the dripping paint and said, 'what else' Apparently this was his way to fix the problem As far as the TWO coat comment, MrBenson painted one coat on all walls, accept for the two in the bedroom that he had to fix, due to his helper doing a horrible toujob The paint we purchased was *** Paint and Primer in one, and he (Mr Benson) said one coat would do it, if it needed two coats it would cost more
The amount of care the took of our property was extremely poor and he did not cover any of the carpeted stairs, or television in the bedroom I vacuumed two days straight to get all the dust out if our television, and scrubbed on my hands and knees the floors, baseboard and carpets in both the bedroom and foyer They got paint everywhere (I actually have photos of paint on the molding around the doorways) that I cannot get off with soap and water Actually, he also forgot the $charge for replacing the ceiling fan in the bedroom, that I (***) put together and helped and finished putting up The reason why I insisted on finishing it, was that he could not get the last screw in the fan that secured to the ceiling and was happy leaving it like that I screwed in what I could and after he left my husband and I fixed what he did not and secured the entire fan properly I guess this is what my friend meant by him taking short cutsLastly, regarding payment, which is apparently confusing MrBenson, I wrote out a check for $after he came back to finish up the work Since he was a business man, and someone I met previously I assumed he would have done the right thing when I complained to him about the walls and how they did not look like they were professionally done and there was paint all over the carpets and molding and runs all over the walls I did not wait, I addressed my concerns with Mr Benson immediately, prior to any payment being made and he did NOTHING My husband said he was going to have him look at the roof, I told my husband, NO because I did not like his work in the house, and my husband said, 'just let him look at it' which he did When my husband came in, he said Mr Benson was going to caulk the vent areas for $100, I again told him know, he does not know what he was doing, and I suggested to get a professional Just because you claim you have all these traits, does not mean you actually know what you are doing, which was the case here MrBenson caulked the vent area, the water poured into one area near the vents and made a huge water stain on our master bath ceiling - a stain we never had and a huge leak that only came after he 'fixed our problem' We had a contractor come, who told us the caulking sealed many of the areas, but diverted the water to one section that was not sealed and all the water got in, through this area Now, we are paying someone ekes for this huge mistake Mr Benson made - which could have been alleviated, if he had just told us he did not know how to repair roofs Thus so called caulking he purchased, we never saw, because we actually never knew he arrived until we saw his ladder in our back roof He did not come to the door, and did not leave any product behind, nor receipt so we do not even know what was usedWith regard to the 'or else threat' he said my husband madeI took a picture of the ceiling and texted Mr Benson, and said, Hi Bob, thus is a *** Guuline, and went on to tell him of the issue The next morning, I turned on my husband's cell phone to see if he responded He did, in fact he responded WTF Yes, that is exactly what this business man of years said, WTF! We were both taken by surprise and realized we were not dealing with someone of good morales We went back and forth with this issue, and I insisted to my husband that he not come back and not do anymore work in our home Of course, I did ask about our family room in the very beginning, prior to actually seeing his work, but my husband said, 'we are not painting that room, I like it like that' and no further conversation took place and no estimate was given
Back to the payment issue, Mr Benson had both myself and my husband make our checks out to cash, and not his business, which I am assuming was incorrect, because he would have to claim it on his taxes as income We can provide copies of the $and $checks if needed.,
Unfortunately thus business relationship between owner and customer did not end well But I do not agree paying someone for services rendered, when the services were not done according to the contract sent to the customer I have numerous recent pictures of runs in our paint and tons of nail pops in our walls that were all supposed to be repaired but were not We have no problem paying someone for doing their job, but I attempted on more than one occasion, telling Mr Benson of all the imperfections in the painting and repairs he did to our interior walls, but when he clearly was not going to fix the problems, he unfortunately left us no choice but to go this route Now we have to pay someone to fix our ceiling in the bathroom, and now fixing our roof This should not have happened, he is a very bad business man, and very BAD communication skills with customers, or dealing with his own personal errorsAny type of communications that took place, questions in payments, or time frames of arrival dates and work done can all be provided by security footage, cell phone communication, and cancelled checks Please let me know if any additional information is needed

07/11/2014I, Robert T Benson, was contracted to paint the master bedroom and foyer for [redacted] and [redacted], PA.On 5/23/14 I arrived at the [redacted]’s to spackle the nail pops, cracks, etc... the evening before painting.  On 05/24/14, myself and my...

other painter arrived and began painting the bedroom and foyer. We painted two coats in the bedroom and two coats in the foyer with materials supplied by the [redacted]s. On 05/25/2014 at about 3:00 pm we were finished and cleaned up for the day. At that time I told them that I would be back on 05/26/2014 to finish up the odds and ends and take care of whatever issues remained. I arrived the following day and went over everything that the owners had pointed out, and upon completion, I was given a $500.00 check for the balance. Obviously they were satisfied with my work or they would have never paid me! [redacted] even asked me for a price to paint their TV room. Upon leaving, [redacted] asked me if I would look at the roof where he had a leak. I set up my ladder and inspected the areas that they claimed were leaking. I noticed that all four vents on the roof were not properly caulked and I offered to caulk the vents at a later date for $100.00. **. [redacted] agreed and I told him that I would get back to him.
About two weeks later I called and made arrangements to do the caulking work. I purchased four tubes of silicone exterior clear caulking and caulked any potential water entry areas around the vents. I honestly thought that this would have solved their leaking problem.Well, three weeks later I received a text telling me that the leak was not fixed. I told **. [redacted] that I would look at it over the weekend. Four days later I received another text from **. [redacted] demanding that I refund his $100.00 or else! - I advised him that I did what I agreed to in regards to his roof, attempted to solve his leak, but obviously it is a bigger problem than either of us had thought. I asked him how old the roof was and who originally installed it and got absolutely no response. **. [redacted] obviously feels that by paying me $100.00 to caulk his roof, that I am suddenly responsible for all future leaks and expects me to refund money for services that were already completed. Up until I received this letter from the Revdex.com, I have had absolutely no complaints about the paint work. Now they are not happy with it? It seems like the “or else” is rearing it's ugly head.
I have been in business for over 14 years and I literally have had zero complaints with the Revdex.com or any other organization.Robert T Benson

Mere fabricated complaint.
No reply is justified!

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
The contract with Mr. Benson, clearly states that he will repair any holes, nail-pops, etc.  That was not done.  Attached are several photos, showing the below acceptable work that was done in our home.  As you can see from these photos, there were hardly any repairs done, and what was done, was not done properly.  There are visible nail-pops, cracks that were just painted over, chips on corners of doorways and closet - just painted over, chips in the walls, paint brush swoosh marks where touch-ups were done, wall sockets not even removed and painted around them, runs in the paint, spackling that was not sanded down properly, wood work all over many entry ways with paint all over it, as well as molding and window frames.  There are even photos of debris or something that was painted right over.  These photos will show that the paint job was done very poorly, and each wall shows shadowing and paint marks that are clearly visible immediately as you walk into the door.  The entire job was not inspected and what was inspected, Mr. Benson tried to fix, and it still looked poorly.  I showed him many areas that were done very badly, and he just kept trying to make quick fixes, which I thought he would have actually fixed them properly, being that we complained before he even got paid.  Still he did nothing - but makes a mess of our house, and not covers everything like he said, did not tape any wood molding off, and got paint on everything.  There are even photos of our one ceiling area, where the paint dripped down from the wall area above, and ran onto our celling on the first floor - none of this was like this prior to him doing his work.
If this work was done correctly the first time, and as per the agreement, we would not be going through this right now.  Mr. Benson took a job, that he mostly likely could not handle, and just hurried up to get it done - that is usually what happens, when you do not take your time and complete the work properly.  I welcome Mr. Benson to come back and fix all of these problems in both the foyer, and bedroom, and repaint the areas, as well as clean the wood-molding which I got paint all over the first time.  This time around, Mr. Benson will cover all carpeting, stair railings, and flooring to protect it from paint slashes and further damage.  All nail-pops should not be visible once completed and prior spackling should show a smooth surface, and not pin-hole marks, and lumps underneath.
Since we are installing hardwood floors, this work will need to be done prior to the installation of these floors, and not at night time, after my husband and I come home from work.  We were inconvenienced the last time around, by having him hear in the evening, and this will be a scheduled appointment, during the day in order to accommodate the customer.  I have about 122 photos [this upload will only allow me to show 10 photos] of various areas that need to be fixed, and that were not done properly, and Mr. Benson was paid for.  And to answer the long awaited questions of why did we pay him, if we did not like the work he did.... well that is very simple, if we held payment, or refused to pay him for the work, even if it was bad, we would be in the same place right now, but Mr. Benson would be filing a complaint against us.  As you can see, the larger problem at hand is the painting job that we paid for, not even really the outside venting work.  That subject is actually closed to me - it was the icing on the cake, and what really made me realize that he was not at all a very good home improvement/painter/handy man - he was just someone who may have some experience in certain areas, and just gets by with those minimal skills.  Jack of all traits, master of none!

Review: My husband and I were looking for someone to paint our foyer and bedroom. I remembered that Robert Benson had painted walls in my place of employment. I contacted the person who hired [or recommended] him for the job, and he said that, "he took short cuts, and did not do the work himself. This was from the person I worked with. Since we purchased the paint, we knew it was good quality; and I specifically asked him, if he was the one doing the painting, he replied "yes". He came, gave an estimate and we agreed on a day for him to come and paint the bedroom. The next morning, he was to come back and paint the foyer. That day, we noticed many areas in the bedroom that needed to be fixed, and addressed this when he arrived. He came with another person, who he never told us about. They did not cover our carpet, and got paint on the carpet, crown molding, sockets, and did not remove all of the socket covers. We had to clean up is mess two days in a row. Mr. Bensons contract stated that he would guarantee workmanship which he did not. He had to come back a third say to fix the mistakes made by this worker, who did horrible work. There are still nail pops, and runs in our walls, and he never came back again to fix. We also hired him to seal our outside roof vent, which we believed was leaking. He came and did it, we paid him and after the next hard rain storm we had a stain in our bathroom ceiling, where the roof vent was leaking onto the roof [bathroom ceiling]. Then the second storm, ended with a bucket filing up with water, right under the roof vent he sealed and said would never leak. He refuses to take responsibility for any of this, and we want our money back because he did not stand behind his work, or follow his own contract.Desired Settlement: Refund for the amount of money paid for the foyer, bedroom painting, and sealing our roof vent - $950.00

Unfortunately, Mr. Benson is very confused about dates and conversations that took place as well as payment. Actually I am very surprised he is still in business for himself, but not surprised on his response or 'make believe actions that took place'. I was told by someone who had previously contracted with Mr. benson, that he takes short cuts and does not do all the work himself.... But we wanted our foyer painted and thought he was reputable - because I saw he was a member of [redacted]. Obviously, that information is incorrect as well, and his quality of work is less than acceptable. I have since contacted [redacted] and discussed our issue with them as well.
