Robert's Chrysler Dodge Reviews (1)

Review: I purchased a vehicle from Roberts Chrysler/Dodge in Meriden. I was given the vehicle without a manual and it was also pretty filthy, this is not the issue though. The windshield needed replacing which took me out of work for a day and also the inner gas tank valve needed to be replaced to prevent the gas tank from overflowing when re-fueling. I was also traveling on A highway when a tire became deflated and nearly caused an accident with my brothers in the car. I took the vehicle in to have the inner gas tank valve replaced and inquired about the tire. I was told that it was due to road wear and not the tire. I was then told that I would need 2 new tires at $215 a piece. Being that this is a certified pre owned vehicle that is still under the dealerships warranty, I assumed that they would make sure that they are within their warranty which by CT law says their warranty covers: "All parts and labor to keep vehicle mechanically operational and sound". I was then left a voicemail by a representative saying "We cannot give you a new tire you're going to have to buy a new one...whatever". To say the least I am very displeased and would like some help please. I do not believe I should be responsible for the cost of the 2 new tires that they recommended.

The consumer was advised that he needed 2 new tires for his Jeep Wrangler.

Although the law requires all used vehicles be given a 60 day 3000 mile warranty on safety items the tire noted in the consumer's complaint does not come under that law.

Reason being, the consumer or someone driving his vehicle hit the tire on something thus damaging the sidewall. Our company can not be held responsible for this particular circumstance.

The consumer was advised of this and was told the reason he needed 2 tires as opposed to 1 was due to the fact his vehicle is a 4 X 4 and replacing only the damaged tire would result in uneven wear on one or both of the tires.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT ACCEPT the response from the business.)

I do not accept their response. I have had two reputable mechanics tell me that the tire was flat due to a slow leak and not a road hazard, hence the reason why my tire air pressure light was on for two days. I was not given an owner's manual so I did not know what that light meant. The windshield needed replacing as well as the inner gas tank valve after the car was sold. Being that this is a certified pre owned vehicle I would expect that these issues would be resolved before the sale. I have been lied to more than once throughout this process and I am very upset about this. I was told by member that it was my fault for buying it in that condition. I was yelled at by the sales rep ([redacted]) when inquiring about the owner's manual. He also left a very rude voicemail message on my personal phone saying "we cannot give you a new tire, you are going to have to buy them...whatever". To say the least I am a very upset customer and I am looking for help.

We are standing firm with the reply to the consumer.

The damage to the sidewall of the consumer's tire would not have been caused by a slow leak but rather by hitting something. The tire pressure light being on is irrelevant to the fact that the sidewall was damaged. A tire pressure light can go on for several different reasons, some of them having nothing to do with the tire but with the computer malfunctioning.

With regard to the rest of the consumer's complaints about the vehicle, the issues that were noted had been discussed at the time of delivery and were resolved quickly. The owner's manual was sent to the consumer via UPS ground upon its arrival to the dealership.

While we are empathetic to the consumer's complaints regarding his tire we will not pay for 2 new tires as was requested.
