***'s Concrete Construction Services (license #***) performed horrible concrete work and did not follow instructions agreed to in writing on their own contract formWe contracted with ***'s to pour concrete in our front-yard courtyard and a walkway***'s has agreed that the work was not satisfactory, but will not rectify the situation
***'s was to create rounded edges on a step, two planters and a walkway, per a drawn plan given to themThe step is not round, one of the planters is oddly elongated and the edges on the walkway are not smooth, but crooked and jaggedThe border lines that were trowelled in are crooked and sloppy (looks like it was the work of someone on the first day of a new job, with no skill) and the poor grading causes a large puddle of about 1/inch deep***'s agreed to perform the work in a professional workmanlike manner, according to industry standards and practicesThey showed me pictures of other projects that looked like good qualit

I am writing with reference to ID#[redacted] of date May 22, 2017. I received a letter of complaint regarding a "contract dispute" on April 17, 2017.First and foremost, I wish to offer an apology for any problems my business or service that this customer feels we have created. For the past 27 years...

that I have been in the concrete business, it has always been my aspiration to treat all of my customers in a fair and honest manner with a satisfied result. I have never had a customer dissatisfied with my service.I met with my client and we walked the property as he explained his requests. After much discussion, asking questions and proving answers to one another, we concluded that I woulddraw up a contract of which he agreed. When we reviewed the contract, he agreed, however he verbally requested that he do the demolition and that he would haul it away to save some ofthe cost. I understood his request and agreed although he did not demo everything as he had stated nor did he haul it all to the dump. Therefore, I completed the demolition byjackhammering the footings, loaded it, and hauled it to the dump. There were three separate incidents when I would prepare and install the forms according to his specifications, return to the job the following day to find that he had removed all of them. He would pull a string down the walkway where he desired the edge of the forms. We again would follow his string, set the forms along the edge of the string and for the second [redacted]e he again had removed all of them. The third [redacted]e, I personally met with him again where theforms were exactly set, and he assured me that all of the forms met with his approval. As per the contract, the homeowner did request that the walkway edges be "broom finished". When the concrete was poured, the walkway was stamped however; the finishers were stamping the walkway and over stamped onto the border. I immediately went up to the house and requested the homeowner's wife step outside to visualize that the border was alsp beingstamped. I explained that while stamping the walkway the stamping equipment overlaps thereby stamping the border that was to be broom finished. I also told her that we could change it but that it had to be "done immediately while the concrete is still wet". I asked her,dis it OK to leave the border stamped as it is before we continue to stamp the rest of thewalkway"? She stated, "to continue as it looks fine", at which [redacted]e the finishers heard her reply and proceeded to complete stamping the rest of the walkway and border. At the [redacted]ethe concrete was poured, she appeared to be very concerned about the pinkish color she had chosen.I do agree that there is a 6"-8" edge of the 40 feet of walkway that is "crooked and jagged". I explained that I would grind the edge to straighten it to align with the edge. He would notagree. The forms had been removed so many [redacted]es by the homeowner that the earth wassoftened. We used extra forms however, along the edge mentioned above: there was aweakened area that proved to allow the concrete to move. This can be easily remediedhowever my suggestions of correction went unheard. He requested that I remove the "entirewalkway". My workmanship was conducted in a "professional workmanlike manner, accordingto industry standards and practices" as he declares that it is not. The project is professional and meets the written contract and verbal requests of the customer and does not justify the "removal of the entire walkwa"'.I offered and am willing to grind the 6"*area along the walkway edge that is "crooked and jagged". I also stated that I would grind the joints and edge that we discussed as this is always and only done at the completion Of the project.I sympathize with this client. I do not believe his anger is as reflectant on my work as he is about the color that they chose for the concrete. Both of the homeowners did express to methat they did LQt receive the colors they had chosen from a company of their choice. I would suggest they contact the company where they purchased the color and possibly request thatthe concrete be restained. I take great pride in my work; have always had an excellent rapport with my customers with 100% satisfaction. I hope this solution is acceptable. In closing, please contact me if there are any further questions.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Please let [redacted] know that I appreciate his response to my complaint. Unfortunately, [redacted] is not representing the situation factually in his response. [redacted] is correct in that the forms were set three [redacted]es.  That is because [redacted]’s crew did not set the forms according to the detailed drawing/plan that was given to him. The process was frustrating in that the drawing/plan was simple and the crew just made up a different design on their own for the walkway. The day before the pour I called [redacted], who came over right away, and we reviewed the drawing/plan and he clearly understood that the forms for the walkway were misplaced and he also understood where the forms were to be placed per the drawing/plan.  We set rope out to illustrate the design ([redacted] did not have spray paint to mark the form line).  I never did see the final forms prior to pouring, because he did not have them set until the morning of the pour and I had already left for work.  In the final product the forms were crooked and [redacted] did not pour all of the sidewalk, he left about a 3-inch triangle gap, which clearly did not match the drawing/plan or our discussion and just plain doesn’t make common sense. [redacted] mentioned in his response that he talked with my wife about the stamping of the borders, which is true.  Our written agreement clearly calls for a broom finish.  I don’t know why [redacted]s’ crew stamped the border or made crooked border lines.  I think that he may have been away from the job when that happened.  Once the error was made, [redacted] asked my wife if the stamp on the border would be okay.  He asked her after two thirds of the border was already stamped and dried to a point that it could not be smoothed out to a broom finish.  My wife said that she might be okay with it, but that it was not what we wanted and that I would not want it.  There was already no fix to the incorrect job that [redacted]s’ crew had done since the cement had dried too much, so he just finished the project with the stamp, which was a clear disregard for what was included in our written agreement. [redacted] notes that it is normal to grind the joints at the end of a project - I doubt that to be the case as I have contracted other cement projects with borders and that has not been the process.  [redacted] didn’t bring up the grinding idea, I suggested the possibility of grinding the smashed down border lines to see if that would improve anything.  Also, I didn’t mention it before, but [redacted] didn’t create any expansion joints in the borders and now we already have six cracks in the cement because of it. [redacted] notes in his response that he sympathizes with me, that is clearly not the case.  I had several conversations with [redacted] about the problems with the job and he offered no solutions, except that I should grow grass over the crooked walkway edge, and he repeatedly told me that I would be happy with the stamped borders, which I am not.  As I stated earlier, it is clear that [redacted] did not follow the terms of our written agreement and his workmanship was well below par.  [redacted] still has not offered any viable solution to the step that is not round, the planter that is oblong and shouldn’t have been, the stamped border that should have been smooth, the crooked border lines, the uneven surface that results in a large puddle and now the cracks in the cement. Grinding the edge of a crooked walkway doesn’t correct any of the other problems with this botched job. Please let [redacted] know that I am willing to discuss a solution to this problem, if he is willing to truly correct the problems created by this job. Regards, [redacted]
