their riders with information relating to the transportation services, including parent responsibilities.The manual requeststhat if a child is not going to school,the parent or guardian should notify the driver or the bus company as soon as possible beforethe scheduled pickup time. Whenthe rider is ready to return to school after a break in service,the parent or guardian must call the bus company at least one day in advance, by 4:00p.m.
Otherwise, the driver will not resume picking up the rider. Theparent/guardian as wellas the school shouldbe aware of this policy.h With the May 181incident, the driver was trying to follow the established D.O.E.procedure noted above, not making any threat We have had occasions where a child hada break in service and was seen at school when the bus pickedup in the afternoon. Because there was no call to resume service,the drivers did not expectto service those riders. Most of those times, a parentor guardian was there to pick the child up.Regarding the incident with the son, the driver recallsthat when they arrived to pick him up, he was clingingon to his Dad, not releasing him and boarding the vehicle like he usually does. Dad carried him on to the bus and put him onto his seat The son didn't attempt to buckle his seat belt so our bus aide attempted to do so. The aide tried several times to buckle him up, but the son pulled the aide's hands away each time. Because of the boy's behavior and concern for his safety, the driver asked Dad if he couldtake his son to school. The driver is adamant that she has never slammed the bus door in the face of Mr. [redacted].We do have a recorderthat receives messages after business hours and if we have a caller on the line, subsequent calls afterthree rings, will be routedto the recorder.We do take pride in providing flawlessservice and put in extra effort for those times that we may fall short of our expectations.
