Robinson's Repair Shop Reviews (2)

Customer brought a 2000 [redacted] to Robinson's Repair Shop with a check engine light for diagnosis. Customer stated that he had bought the vehicle from another individual and that it had a new engine. Various checks performed, including checking plugs, running and non running compression test and leak down test revealed that #1 exhaust valve was not seating properly. Informed customer of what was found (INV# [redacted]).
Customer brought the truck back on 04/12/2013 for a NY State Inspection and authorized removal of both cylinder heads. Removal of the cylinder heads revealed machine work on multiple valves and seats though the problem was only severe enough on the #1 cylinder to reveal itself during initial diagnosis. An estimate was prepared using remanufactured heads through the [redacted] system. The customer did not like the price quoted and took it upon himself to search the internet for other sources of parts. He located another company via the internet, [redacted], and instructed us to buy the heads, gasket set and head bolts from them. His wishes were complied with and the job was completed. The parts we received from [redacted] were not marked up and the customer was charged what we paid for the parts. Not only was the job completed for labor only, on the part of Robinson's Repair Shop, but the customer was given a $69.00 discount (INV# [redacted]). The vehicle left the shop running properly.
On 09/09/2013 the customer returned and the truck was diagnosed with a #1 misfire (bad injector), INV# [redacted]. The customer elected to do the repair himself. The customer brought the truck back on 12/26/2013 for misfire on #3 cylinder and authorized removal of right cylinder head to diagnose the problem. Removal of the head revealed that the right cylinder head we had received from [redacted] was cracked (verified by local machine shop via pressure test & dye penetrant). Did not put the $38.50 cost for testing on the customer's bill.
There was some time delay in dealing with [redacted] due to the proximity of the holidays, the person needed to authorize the warranty of the head at [redacted] was ill for a period, and the volume of work scheduled at Robinson's Repair at the time. The head eventually was replaced by [redacted] at no charge but they would not allow for labor or new head bolts & gasket, which were then purchased through [redacted]. The cost of labor and parts not covered by [redacted] totaled $419.69. The job was completed and the truck operated properly. Customer didn't feel the bill was fair.
Robinson's Repair acted in good faith and as instructed by the customer in each and every aspect of every transaction/repair and it is not Robinson's responsibility to donate time, labor and/or resources that were needed elsewhere during a busy time because a company the customer insisted we do business with to begin with supplied bad parts. On or about 01/30/2014, via phone conversation, customer voiced his displeasure with Robinson's Repair and was told he could take the truck at no charge but to not bring it back.
In conclusion, at NO TIME did this truck have water in the oil. This vehicle had a HEAD problem and not a GASKET problem. Both times the head/s were off the gaskets were in good shape and no evidence of water/coolant having crossed the gasket barrier was seen.

The work started3-26-13 when he diagnoised the problem.$148.00. Truck went in for repair 4-12-13 $1,060.78.went back in 4-26-13 $199.08. back in 9-9-13 $37.75. back in9-18-13. $303.03. back in 12-27-13, picked up truck 1-18-13 , disputed the bill with [redacted] the owner at which time I was...

told to take the damn truck and do not come back.. All previous bills were paid at time of pick-up with cash.. Have all invoices marked paid.. After receiving truck and filing complaint Had oil changed, with filter and anti-freeze topped off which was not done by robinsons auto repair.. (who does head work on vechile and dosent change the oil filter or add proper amount of anti-freeze)? water had been in the oil.. Have receipt for oil change and anti-freeze... I dont beleive the truck is fixed only a matter of time before the check engine light comes back on, and he already has stated Do not bring truck back.
