Rob's Affordable Painting Reviews (%countItem)

Hired this business to paint the exterior of my house. They banged out the job in two days and it showed, missed painting areas, the detail around the windows, doors and on spindles was sloppy, no detailing was done, the paint was just slopped on house. I marked all the spots I saw and had the painter come back to fix the spots I had marked with blue painters tab. The owner *** came to me and said they fixed those areas and found other spots. Went out to look at spindles and saw they were still missing stain, pointed this out to ***, he worked more on those spots and came back to saw he was done. I paid them and they left. After awhile I went out side and looked at the finished product. The was still missing stain in areas, stain overage on other colors were not fixed, big stain spot on screen that they tried to wipe off but just smeared it more onto the screen, still areas of missing stain and did not completely fix the paint line where the blue and white lines meet, ***'s website states "attention to detail" which is a big misrepresentation. I feel that as a business owner it is his responsibility to go around the house to make sure the job looks professional and complete, I should not be the "mother" and keep pointing out the spots that need to be corrected.

Rob's Affordable Painting Response

This email is in response to a complaint submitted by Ms. ***

Ms. contacted me in January of 2017 to obtain an estimate for painting the exterior of her home. The following was agreed would be completed:
·Pressure wash the exterior
·Sand the bare spots
·Prime the bare spots
·Paint one (1) coat on the body
·Paint two (2) coats on the deck spindles
·Paint the windows (wood ones)
·Paint the inside porch (ceiling and walls)

When it was her turn to be completed,I employed five sub-contractors to make sure the home was completed on time and before the season was done because the weather is changing. Ms. was shocked that we were able to complete itin three dayssince she commented that she painted it herself last time and it took her all summer. Her home is not large by any means and when you hire professionals, it should not take more than a couple days to complete an exterior painting job. We were on-time, cleaned up and performed the tasks listed above. In addition to the tasks listed above, I completed the following at no extra charge:
·All the screens on the porch were painted, which was not included
·Painted the plywood under her deck, which was not included

Ms. did contact me and stated there were areas missed. I then hired one of the sub-contractors to come with me to complete any issues she had. I want to mention that there were very minimal touch ups. I spent a couple hours with her making sure she was happy and then I come around the corner of her home and there is Ms. with one of my blue paint brushes. I asked her what she was doing and she just laughed at me and walked away.

I have painted hundreds of homes and have never had an issue. If there are items missed, since no one is perfect, I have gone above and beyond to make sure the homeowner is happy. I have hundreds of homeowners who will give me the utmost recommendation. I and the sub-contractors I employee all have years of experience and have worked as a team for many years. By having this experience together, we are able to work as a team and get the job done. Ms. will never be happy and I should have known that from my gut feeling when I met her the first time. Sometimes you just have to pass on work when your gut tells you that this could be a customer who will never be happy.

I do not plan on returning as I have already gone around the whole house and fixed all areas Ms. stated were missed. She provided me a list the last time I was there and then paid me when I was done. If she felt there was still work to be done, she should not have paid me.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at 262-490-5415.

Thank you.

NOTE: I WANT TO SEND PHOTOS BUT NOT SURE HOW TO DO. THEY ARE LOCATED IN A DROP BOX. IS THERE AN EMAIL ADDRESS I CAN SEND THEM TO?

In response to ***'s message:First off we hired ***'s Painting, we were never told that there would be subcontractors. *** stated that he has a good crew working for him and that they could bang out the job. Regardless of the fact that subcontractors were used to paint the home, we had a signed written proposal with ***'s Painting and *** Ruemier is the one that is responsible for this deplorable paint job. *** stated in front of me and my husband that the screen frames on the screened porch would be included, who would paint their whole house and not have the screened in porch frame not painted? ***'s "crew" was here for 1 day of pressure washing, 2 days painting and a return trip for 4 hours when he came back on October 8th, to fix the areas that I saw where paint was missing. When *** came back to fix the areas that I saw, which I marked with blue painters tape, I stated that these were the only areas that I saw at this time and that he needs to go around the whole house and inspect the house for all areas that were missed and/or needed to be repaired. As far as me with the paint brush, I was fixing huge paint drips where they had just painted and I had stated to *** what I was doing, which he turned around and yelled at his "employee" I did not just laugh and walk away. When *** and one of his "employee" came to my house on October 8th for four hours to make sure I was happy and to receive payment. He was very disgruntle and unprofessional towards me when I was showing him the areas that I had that saw needed to be fixed. When he came to tell me that he was finished I looked at a spindle and still saw unpainted wood (as per contract the spindles were to have two coats of stain/paint), about an hour later he came back to me saying they were finished. Since I was unavailable to do another walk around the house at this time, I trusted that *** went around the house and fixed all areas The attached pictures were taken two weeks after October 8th when *** was saying the job was "finished". I must also state that this time, this is only the second time this house has been painted. The existing paint scheme was to remain the same, for example, blue on blue, yellow on yellow, white on white. Due to their unprofessionalism, many areas were painted to be covenant for them so they did not have to properly cut in the paint were the different paint colors meet. (ie yellow was painted over white and blue areas, yellow paint on ceiling which was white, blue paint on ceiling which was white) . The following photos were taken by my husband after returning home from being out on town for business for 3 weeks. (he was not around during the painting)The follow numerous photos show the lack of preparation work before applying paint. These photos show the non use of tarps, tape and coverings to protect unpainted surfaces . We do not see where any clean up was done, ie screen, hardware, etc.:Paint on screens (all new screens in 2016)Paint on hardware (handles and hinges) Drips on rock wallsPaint on bare wood deck and jointsMajor drips under spindles on unpainted decking wood and major drips on spindle rail (we have 130 spindles which never received 2 coats and there is major drips under all spindles)Fallen leaves , paint chips and debris were painted into new paintNumerous areas where old yellow paint shows through, no paint applied to those areasYellow paint on new white aluminum clad windows, sliding glass doors and flexible drip edge (new windows and new sliding glass doors installed in 2016) ( Per manufacturer, flexible drip edge is never to be painted, painting this causes it to dry out and crack and may cause water leaks in window. My husband was able to point this out due to the fact that he is a carpenter/contractor of 37 years.) Railings not sanded and spot primed as per contractMy husband went around the house upon his return from out of town and was very upset to see paint on the aluminum cladding of brand new windows! As a matter of fact, he is disguised by the unprofessionalism of the whole paint job.The last contact I had with ***, I ask that he call and meet with my husband. To date is has not called my husband nor made any attempts to meet with him. *** texted me to say that he would send a subcontractor to fix areas. We no longer trust *** or one of his subcontractors to proper repair the unacceptable work that was done on our house. My husband is currently in the process of getting bids from other painting companies to see what it will cost us to have them properly cut in color separation, paint missed areas and clean up spills and drips on windows, screens, hardware and unpainted surfaces. We now ask that *** reimburse us to cover the cost that we will incur to correct the unprofessional workmanship incurred by him and his "crew".

Rob's Affordable Painting Response

This email is in response to your letter sent to me on October 24, 2017. I am responding to the complaint made by Ms. ***, #***.

I am a self-employed painter who does not have any employees. I hire subcontractors to help me complete the work and I am at the job and manage them.

I met with Ms.’s husband when I came to bid the job. She was not there and the following estimate was accepted by them:
·Pressure wash the exterior
·Sand the bare spots
·Prime the bare spots
·Paint one (1) coat on the body
·Paint two (2) coats on the deck spindles
·Paint the windows (wood ones)
·Paint the inside porch (ceiling and walls)

There is no mention of screens when I looked at the job. I painted them at no charge to the homeowner. Also noted, the hand rails were not peeling. There is no mention in the estimate that they accepted of sanding the handrails or spindles. They were bare spot primed and two coats were applied as quoted. I also painted the underside of the deck at no charge.

Upon completion after returning to the job to complete touch-ups, Ms. sent me two pictures of what she felt needed correction after I came back. One is of the blue paint on the screen which is a swiped paint brush mark. Interesting part of this is that where this is done there is no blue paint anywhere that this would make sense to be done here. She is the only one who had the blue paint brush. The second picture she sent is of a perfect small square on an under hang. I don’t know how this would be there. It makes no sense.

Upon receiving the pictures, I offered to send out a subcontractor and they declined. If Ms. was so concerned on October 8, 2017 why did she not stay and review all the issues with my work. She reviewed her home and stated everything was okay and she paid me.

Ms. is fabricating everything and the list just keeps growing. I have completed everything that we agreed upon and I did go back myself with a subcontractor to make sure any issues she had were done.

Thank you.

Pictures do not lie. There is no blue paint on screens. All the screens have yellow paint on them not blue. When *** said he would send out a subcontractor, that is when I told him to call my husband to set up a time to meet with him upon his arrival home from being out of town due to work. The screens and hand rails were discussed with *** by both me and my husband together. Again, if *** had subcontractors, it is his responsibility to make sure jobs are done correctly. The main issue is the sloppiness of the job, no clean up work was done, missing paint spots, paint on brand new aluminum windows and their drip edge and sliding doors, paint on all hinges, door handles and all screens have paint on them (along with painted on painted on but also huge drip marks on more than one screen), paint on previous unpainted wood, previous color scheme not followed, no cutting in or detail work done. Basically the paint was just slopped on house.

Vicki
