Rock City Auto Parts Reviews (%countItem)

On Monday, March 2, 2020, I purchased an online motor part for a 2010 Honda Odyssey that was available and functional from Rock City Auto Parts and made a deposit of $400.00 charged credit. I drove from Joilet to Rockford Illinois to pick up the motor on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. At arrival, I was appointed to the motor, checked the exterior of the motor, as did the man who sold it to me, and everything looked fine. I paid the rest of the amount for the motor of $1047.25 cash. Leaving the grounds of Rock City Auto Parts I drove back to Joliet. Arriving back at Joliet that day I dropped off the motor. The morning on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, is when I realized the item was a malfunctioning motor. I had to remove the Timing Cover of the motor because every 100,000 miles every car has to change the Timing Belt Kit and Water pump. As soon as I removed the timing cover I saw the damage interiorly, the monoblock was broken. I then called Rock City Auto Parts at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, to complain that the interior motor had damage. I marked the area of damage and sent photos to them. I then spoke to the man on replacing the motor but he said he would have to get back to me because he had to speak with his boss. Never did he contact me. On Thursday, March 5, 2020, a call was made again to recontact Rock City Auto Parts. It was told by this business that they would not be able to warranty or help because they sold an item that was functional. In this case, I told them it wasn't and I wasn't able to see the damage internally until I inspected the motor back in Joliet, which was on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, in the morning. I never was able to have use of the motor because of the interior changes I had to do first. This is when I found the monoblock was damaged. The business denied it and tried to accuse me at fault when indeed I wasn't at fault. It was told that I would not get a replacement motor nor will I receive a refund.

Rock City Auto Parts Response • Mar 21, 2020

The customer came and looked over and picked up an engine from us that they signed and paid for that the took and was not broken. Several days later the customer came back with the engine with the cylinder head clearly broken and cracked. The engine they purchased was run tested and checked prior to removable and prior to customers accepting the engine as well. With the head smashed we would have never been able to test it and also we would have never gave it to the customer as well as it clearly being physically broken the customer would never have accepted it in the broken condition. Because the customer physically broke the engine after they took it. We can not take the engine back since they caused the physical damage to the engine.

I am rejecting this response because: First off, it is false with what they are saying that we went with the item several days later. After I had contacted the man and sent the photos to him that morning at 9 a.m., the guy was ignoring me. I then had traveled from Joliet to Rockford so the man can see with his own eyes that the motor internally was damaged. The mono block was damaged. Second, they are reporting false that the cylinder head was broken when indeed it was not. The damage was all internal. Again we took the motor off the property just being able to inspect the motor externally. It wasn't until we arrived back in Joliet and the next morning when we took the timing cover off so we can replace the timing belt and water pump because every car every 100,000 miles those two items need to be replaced. Therefore, this is when we seen the damage of the mono block internally. So seeing a motor from the external view everything would look okay. But it wouldn't be until one opens the timing covers to be able to see the internal view of the motor. The business's statement in is incorrect and stating false information. I also after the day we drove back to Rockford with the motor and talked to the guy, he said he wouldn't be able to help for that was our fault when it wasn't. From there after speaking with him I contacted the Rockford police for a report to be done of the situation. Then the police said they couldn't help but to contact Revdex.com of the situation.

Sincerely,

Nelvin

On May 24, 2019 a transmission was purchased from Rock City Auto Parts, Rockford, Illinois; telephone 1-815-***. The transmission was shipped on May 28, 2019 and received on May 30 or 31, 2019. Believe that I was dealing with “Mike” for most of the contacts.
Upon installation of the transmission on June 4, 2019 it was found to be faulty. Calls were made to Rock City Auto Parts for assistance with diagnosis on or around June 4 and 5, 2019. Code *** was reported along with the improper operation. The transmission does not shift properly when driving, and it bangs when shifting into reverse or drive. All sensors were checked and working properly.
During a telephone call made to Rock City Auto Parts on June 5, 2019 was told that a replacement would arrive by June 11 or 12, 2019. When no replacement arrived another telephone call was made on or around June 14, 2019 to Rock City Auto Parts at which time was informed that the replacement transmission should arrive within a few days. No replacement transmission has arrived to date.
Telephone calls were made on June 18, 2019 and June 27, 2019 with messages left relating to the transmission. No return call was received.
On July 5, 2019 when a telephone call was made a message could not be left due to “Mailbox is full”. On July 8, 2019 a female employee answered and stated “Mike is on vacation until tomorrow. Call back. I have no idea of what is going on.” When trying to call back on July 9, 2019 no one answered the telephone. Finally, on July 13, 2019, the call was answered and a message was left, however, no one returned the call.
It is unfortunate that businesses need to deal with vendors who make no attempt to resolve issues. As can be seen above the vendor has chosen to be deceptive and then completely ignore the faulty transmission concern. As a result of the above review it is felt that Rock City Auto Parts should be penalized an additional amount beyond the simple refund of the $935.00.

I called the company and purchased a 2.7 engine with 32 tone ring windows on the flywheel for a 2004 Chrysler Siebring. All I have is the stock number ***. I paid $450.00 for the engine and $175.00 for shipping. I was told there is a 90 days warranty. I received the engine on 06/22/18 and had my mechanic installed the engine the next week. As soon as the installation was completed it was apparent a rod was knocking. My mechanic and myself have been trying to contact the company from that day to the present date and none answers their phone so we leave voicemails but no one has ever returned either of our calls. My daughter has emailed the company twice to the company email address and also twice to ***@rockcityautopsrts who’s email address is on their webpage.

I need someone to contact me so I can get the defective engine they sold me replaced with an engine that is not defective. My vehicle is still without an engine and I am out $625.00.

REGARDING ***

WE HAVE CALLED HIM BACK SEVERAL TIMES AND HIS PHONE HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED . WE DID GET IN TOUCH WITH IRA A FRIEND OF HIS, AND *** DID GET A REPLACEMENT ENGINE FROM US ON OR AROUND 7 19 2018. WE ALSO GAVE *** BACK THE SHIPPING COST ON THE ORIGINAL PART OF 175.00 . THE ONLY REASON WE WERE UNABLE TO CONTACT HIM QUICKLY WAS BECAUSE HIS TELEPHONE WAS DISCONNECTED FOR A SHORT TIME AND WE DID NOT HAVE ANY OTHER NUMBERS FOR HIM AT THE TIME. WE HAVE MAINTAINED OUR WARRANTY AND ALSO REFUNDED SHIPPING. THE LAST TIME WE SPOKE WITH *** HE WAS SATISFIED WITH THE WARRANTY AND THE REPLACEMENT.

THANK YOU

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

on February 28th, 2018 our company purchased a 2008 ford Explorer motor from Rock City Auto and had it shipped to Rapid City, SD. Once the motor arrived our mechanic installed the motor properly into the vehicle only to find out the motor was no good. We have attempted several times to resolve this with Rock City Auto only for them to ignore our calls or not provide us with a resolution.

To whom it may concern

RE case number *** Rock City Auto Parts has sold a good used tested engine to *** Framing and Drywall on 2 28 2018. The Engine we sold is a good running tested engine that had been tested for running knocking smoking and oil pressure in which it was indeed was tested a good used engine. We had spoke to *** around April the 9th, *** who purchased the engine and ***, several times and *** also had us speak with his mechanic (not a certified mechanic) *** did inform us that he did install the engine with the help of another person (not a certified mechanic as well) and that when they put it in the engine did run fine for a short time before the timing chain broke through the top of the engine. When we asked *** if he made sure the timing alignment guides were aligned correctly as they need to be when installing another engine as what needs to be done or even new plastic guides as required by factory specks when changing the engine, he informed us that he did not do that and he was not a certified mechanic and did not know that needed to be done with this type of engine. Rock City does give a 30 day warranty on our engines as stated on our invoices in which we did inform *** and the engine did need to be installed by a certified mechanic as well, *** even had a friend of his call and help place the order *** from ***s Repair in which we also went over what we had available at that time and our warranty and it needed to be installed by a certified mechanic to insure the correct procedures were followed to dealer specks. Rock City Auto Parts did test and supply a good used engine within the warranty time, *** Framing did not have a certified mechanic install the engine and as a result the person that did the install did not install it correctly causing the engine to fail after it was installed incorrectly. We have had many conversations with *** Framing from ***s from ***s Repair and *** Goldade who purchased the engine and *** the person that installed it as well as people in the business office at ***. We did inform *** that since the engine was not installed by a certified mechanic and the proper steps were not done at all as required with any certified mechanic instalation for this type of engine and as well as being past the 30 day warranty that the engine is out of warranty. We have always spoken to *** and his mechanic as well as returning any voice mail that might have been left.
