Rock Health & Fitness Reviews (5)

Review: I have been charged since June of 2013 for 65 dollars per month membership fees when the membership ended at the end of may. I have called, cancelled credit cards and they still continue billing me. This is not atypical; While a member there I have heard others complain about the same thing.Desired Settlement: Reprimand the company fines/fees.

At this time, my complaint, ID [redacted] regarding Rock Health & Fitness has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I rarely visited The Rock Fitness Center--they had bedbugs for a while, which they didn't tell the clients. I figured it out when I saw the plastic bags and one of the trainers told me about it. So I didn't go there. And when my credit card expired, I thought that was the end of it. I spoke on the phone to [redacted], who had called about my expired card, and I said I was terminating. She told me to come in but I didn't have time. The Rock, after a few months, figured out my new credit card's numbers and began billing me. I caught it on my bill and went in and was told I owed them even more money. They refused to refund me the money they had billed me for and extracted from my card. In order to terminate I had to sign a paper saying I would not dispute the charges. They told me the gym was "run by lawyers" and that there was nothing I could do.Desired Settlement: I would a refund of the $570 dollars they charged me without authorization on my credit card.

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by Rock Health & Fitness regarding complaint ID [redacted].

The business has continued to bill me though I did terminate my membership on their terms.

Sincerely,

The Rock has been automatically debiting my checking accountant forbthe past 4 months although my contract has expired and without my authorization. Nothing inbtheir contract states they had permission to do so. Id like acrefunf for those last four months at $59 a month. If I knew I had a membership I would have gone. Thank you

Review: I terminated my gym membership with this company April 2012. I did this in person at the gym. A few months later I discovered my bank had continued being charged each month. I contacted the gym and they informed me I was still a member, and I owed them additionally months of membership dues because I switched bank accounts and they had been unable to keep taking money from it. I informed them I cancelled in person in April. They claimed they had no record of this. I asked them to investigate this further because what I stated was accurate. Furthermore I stopped attending the gym after the date which provides further evidence of that. I didn't know the name of the gentleman who said he cancelled my membership, but I asked them to look into who was working the last date the computer system said I was there because I assume it coincided with the date I terminated my contract. Eventually the person I was speaking to apologize and said they would remove the charges, mail a refund of unauthorized charges to me, and update my account to reflect it as cancelled. However, on 8/**/13 (over a year later) I received a statement from the Rock Health & Fitness Club Member Services based out of [redacted], stating that I owe them $592.00 for membership dues in the amount of $59/month that they have continued billing me on the first of each month for the past 10+ mnths.Desired Settlement: I would like them to refund the money they withdrew from my Citibank account for the months following my contract termination by mailing me a check since my account is no longer active. I would like them to update their system to reflect my contract termination from April 2012. My ID number with them is [redacted] It is my belief that this company intentionally continues to take money from clients who have terminated their contracts because they have bank account numbers on file for them. Whether it's out irresponsibility or intentional, it's illegal to take money from clients who no longer have a membership with them, and who terminated according to the terms of the contract.

Review: not been to that gym since spring of 2012 however they have on file that I was last there in 8/2012. Nevertheless, I haven't been there in about a year. The last time I was in the gym, I remember telling the clerk at the check in desk that I would no longer be in the area and asked about termination policy. He said that there was a fee to get out of the contract and after a brief conversation, he recommended that I let my contract run out instead of paying the fee for termination. No one told me, however, that they would auto-renew my contract. Recently, I was checking my statements very carefully and noticed that they had been billing me $63 per month this whole time. I figured it must be an oversight on their part, so I called yesterday (7/**) and spoke with [redacted], who said she was a manager. She was extremely rude and told me that I would still be billed for August (next month) despite the fact that I had not been to the gym in over a year and had been paying for the service the whole time. I requested that she reverse that charge and not bill me further. She also told me that I had to come into the gym to sign a form requesting a 30 day notice of breaking the contract. I told her that I would not be in the area any time soon and that I prefer that she take my request by phone. She asked me to email instead. However, even after I emailed her, she said she would not accept my request to terminate the contract. See below for email exchange. Let me add that prior to this experience, I thought very highly of this gym and was a very loyal customer. Should I have been in the area again, I may have considered becoming a member again. However, after this ordeal, I most certainly will not be seeking to enter into any contracts with them in the future. As a small business, I am hoping that the owner knows nothing of the horrendous customer service and would subject all employees involved in this type of conduct to disciplinary action.Desired Settlement: When I first made the call to The Rock to request that they not charge my card, I was prepared to just ask them to not charge me further. However, after being treated so rudely by [redacted] and not receiving any sort of call or communication, as requested, from [redacted]'s manager, [redacted], I am completely outraged and now require a full refund. I am happy to consider my conversation on the last day I was at the gym (8/**/2012, according to their records) sufficient 30 day notice. Looking at my charges from them, my billing cycle is at the beginning of each month, so I am assuming that it would be fair for them to charge me for September 2012. Therefore, I desire a full refund for October 2012 through July 2013 (the last charge that I received from them). I also expect to not be charged for August of 2013 or anything going forward under the current contract. I also expect termination of the contract as I have sufficiently explained that I have canceled my contract with them. That's 10 months at $63 per month, so I request to be refunded $630.
