Rock Rose Stonework Reviews (1)

Review: [redacted]This business has moved locations, new address is: [redacted] My family had an exceptionally poor experience with this vendor. After a year of renovating our home from top to bottom, our last project was to install a new kitchen counter top, back splash and sink, and hired Rock Rose Stone for this job – we have worked with several local contracting businesses in the area and Rock Rose was the only one we had significant issues with in regards to timeliness, professionalism, and workmanship.

We signed a contract and paid in full (our mistake!) as we were told this was their policy and needed to secure the stone material for the counter top. Our credit card was charged by the vendor on June [redacted] in the amount of $5800. We were told that the material we selected was in stock, and they would come and rip out our existing kitchen on June [redacted]. We were also told (verbally and written) that they would be ready as early as July [redacted] or [redacted] to install the new counter. We were assured that a 5 day turnaround in regards to templating, cutting the material, and installation was workable for them. My family made subsequent arrangements for the 5 days of living without a kitchen by visiting in-laws. Approximately 2 days after the tear-out, we received a call from the [redacted] of the business, saying that he was mistaken and the material was not in stock, and he was actually waiting on a shipment. He could not give us an ETA of when the shipment would come in, but assured us he would be in touch with us on a daily basis to give us a status update. We did not hear from him for the next week, he did not return our phone calls, and finally when their showroom was open after a holiday weekend, we were told he was on vacation and did not have cell phone service.

Finally able to track the [redacted] down, we expressed our frustration at not having a workable kitchen for an extended (and un-planned for) amount of time. This was extremely difficult on our household as my wife was [redacted] at the time and we have very young children living in the home.

As a resolution, we were given the option of picking out an alternative material. They sent my wife to several different stone yards throughout the region. She had to take time off from work on 3 separate occasions, and compiled a list of 7-8 alternative stone options. After a myriad of back and forths, with excuses ranging from “that choice is too expensive for us” and “oops this one is only available in Connecticut” and “there’s a crack in the stone”, they were not able to deliver on any of the alternative options. In addition, the [redacted] had originally offered to issue us a monetary credit which he then tried to negotiate down lower and subsequently revoked. First for $1000, then $500, and in the final phone conversation with him, $250. At this point we were insulted and tired of being shaken down.

Finally after living for several weeks with an inoperative kitchen, we heard good news – the shipment of our original stone was coming in. They came in and did the job outlined in the contract, however, based on several frustrating and unpleasant conversations over the prior weeks, it is our feeling that they did a shabby and careless job purposely. After the installation, we noticed a crack in the bottom of our new dishwasher (it has a leak as well), there are scratches on our newly refinished hardwood floors where they pulled the oven in and out, and the carpentry work added to the cabinets has rough finishes and poor construction.Desired Settlement: $500-$1000

We feel this is a fair credit amount knowing that we had to spend money on pre-made food and takeout for many days, since we could not use our kitchen to cook, as well as to cover the damages done to our property. In addition, my wife took off approximately 6 hours of work in attempt to accommodate the vendor (she makes $50 per hour pre-tax).

We are in the process of receiving a quote and diagnostic fee on broken dishwasher.

If need be, can obtain quotes on getting our floor repaired and cabinetry work repaired.
