I purchased a vehicle 6/30/14 and the alternator failed and needed to be replaced on the 2nd day of ownership, problem is still not solved.I purchased vehicle 6/30/14, for $4000. I drove car to work only and on 2nd day, the alternator failed & I had it towed back to dealer via [redacted] (Rockdale Auto) said that he replaced alternator and I picked it up from his shop 7/4/14.Light still flashed for alternator and I returned the car again 7/7/14.He told me after several weeks of having the car and telling me he needed more time that he had the car towed to [redacted] auto on Millbury Street, Worcester. [redacted] informed me the car was towed to them "in pieces" and has to be put together again like a puzzle. Rockland Auto took out the car's original computer as well as the alternator and could not reassemble correctly.[redacted] auto assembled the car again, installing the original computer back into the car since the replacement from Rockland was not at all done correctly. The invoice for the work [redacted] auto was 1500, and Rockland Auto refused to pay the full amount, and only paid 750. I consulted with an attorney, and they forwarded a letter stating I would move forward with a law suit if they did not pay the remaining 750 by 9/30/14.Rockland did not pay and since the car was supposedly fixed, I went ahead and paid the difference because of my inablility to get anywhere with Rockland Auto. The car was NOT fixed, again the alternator light was on, I did research on the car myself, printed info from the internet and returned the car to [redacted] to repair. They attempted the repair, I had to pay and additional $90, and picked up the car.It ran for about 10 days, and then the car again started flashing the alternator light.I paid [redacted] in [redacted] $117 for a diagnostic test to see what they might come up with. They found a problem with a connection wire, which they said could just be the beginning of the issue and in order to fix it would begin at $685. I do not have that kind of money, this car has been nothing short of a nightmare since day 2 of ownership. The dealer, [redacted] has been impossible to communicate with in a professional manner. He is extremely rude and refused to do any type of return when I asked. He kept saying he will fix the problem, etc. It is now 10/31/14, and out of the 4 months I have owned the car I have driven it maybe 2 to 3 weeks tops. I have copies of all the invoices and letters and can forward all of the information to your attention.Desired Settlement4000 price of the car750 price for repair by [redacted] auto90 another repair by [redacted] auto for same problem_______4840I have also had to pay for taxi to get to work and back, which are $15 one way. Customer stated that the vehicle was being purchased for his [redacted]. At the day/time of sale his [redacted] took possession of said vehicle.I was contacted 2 days later by the [redacted]'s to say the "Battery Light" was on. I told them to drop off the vehicle so I could have the opportunity to have it looked at & diagnose the problem. The vehicle was DRIVEN IN to my place of business (NOT IN TOW) by the [redacted]. Upon taking possession of the vehicle I noticed an "OFF MARKET" Charging Device plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet & the alternator was no longer good.On July 3, 2014. We installed a NEW ALTERNATOR at NO CHARGE in an attempt to satisfy the customer & get the vehicle running for them. On July 4, 2014 Mr. [redacted]'s [redacted] picked up the vehicle again. At that time I told the [redacted] that I believe that the problem was caused by an "OFF MARKET COMPONENT" she had plugged into cigarette lighter to charge an electronic device. I further explained that the problem with "older model vehicles" the inner wiring components were not designed to accommodate off market charging devices & that is what caused the alternator to go on the car & could have damaged other components. I explained we had installed a new alternator in attempt satisfy her & she would be lucky if that in fact, would solve the problem. She would need to drive the vehicle to see if the problem was resolved.2 Days later I received calls back again saying it was the same problem happening again. This time, the vehicle was brought back in tow by [redacted] When I opened the hood of the vehicle, it was clear that someone had TAMPERED with the vehicle or tried fixing it as several wires, plugs, hoses, & vacuum hoses were UNPLUGGED AND/OR DISCONNECTED!! The vehide did not leave my premises in this condition. I immediately called the [redacted] & asked her who had tampered with the vehicle & described the condition of wires, plugs, hoses etc. to her. She said her "MECHANIC" had & that he stated that it needed a new alternator & new Freeze Warning Sensor.then asked her to identify her Mechanic & who pulled all the wires, plugs & hoses out. She refused to disclose who did it & then stated she didn't have a mechanic!! I told her we did not create the new issues with her car, & that whomever she had working on the car made a mess of everything under the hood, & it is not my fault! At that point, we tested all areas of the possible problem. This was time consuming, and I continued to get harassing phone calls from [redacted]'s [redacted] saying she needed her car back. We had diagnosed the problem as the vehicle's computer has a regulator in it that may have been damaged from using off market charging components in the vehicle & caused it to burn out the NEW alternator & short out the regulator. I had located 2 used computer units with the same matching numbers at a salvage yard. Mr. [redacted] began calling me several times a day harassing me & threatening me about the vehicle. I told him that we tried helping with the car & we did not create the issues his [redacted] was having with the vehicle. His [redacted] shorted out the wiring harness or fuse links in the wiring harness or something else, and we no longer could help with the car. Nothing we tried to do would satisfy Mr. [redacted] at that point or his [redacted] and I wanted someone else to make the future repairs.I offered to have the vehicle towed to [redacted] Auto Repair (which is closer to their house) to find the problem & further repair of the vehicle. They (The [redacted]'s) agreed.Prior to having the vehicle towed to [redacted] I went there & spoke to the owner [redacted]. I told him the car would be towed in. I explained there was a short somewhere in the wiring and that it burned out a brand new alternator, I had [redacted] installed a 2nd brand new alternator. Also that the computer & battery were unplugged because until the problem is fixed I did not want it to damage the new alternator again. [redacted] agreed it was the right thing to do. Over the next 6-7 weeks [redacted] had the vehicle, and Mr. [redacted] continued to call & harass me about it.[redacted] called to say the vehicle was done. The car was tested & fixed, but when he drove the car the alternator burned out yet again & he had replaced it again!I sought out help & information from a Ford Dealership & an Electrical Engineer. They said that it was their opinion that they would change out the wiring harness on it at this point. He also stated that the aftermarket plug in device used to charge electronics in the vehicle can cause a constant draw of electricity & overheat the system, That is why warnings are placed on the packaging of those type of devices when purchased, that state it is not compatible and/or safe to use in all vehicles as it can cause overheating to the wiring system or other unspecified damage. I went to [redacted] to review the bill. I stated that I was only responsible for half the bill. I would not pay for a 3rd alternator, I did not approve them to purchase & install a new one because if notified, I could have exchanged the alternator for a new one at no additional cost. I did in fact pay for half the bill to [redacted] because they got the car running. But in my honest opinion, I was not convinced after seeking more information and speaking to other professionals that the issue with the car was solved because they did not replace the wiring harness. [redacted] picked up the vehicle from [redacted] and claims he is still having problems with the vehicle. I once again explained that he probably would continue to have issues with the vehicle until the wiring harness is replaced. The damaged was caused by his [redacted] use of off market devices that shorted out the system.I feel that I have been more than fair with paying for repairs that was caused by using improperdevices used on an older model vehicle that is not designed to handle the constant draw of electricity may cause over heating of the wiring components and/or cause widespread damage. This statement has been made in answer to the complaint against me/my company by [redacted]. Everything I have stated is the truth of the events that have taken place.[redacted]Rockdale Auto & Truck[redacted] A [redacted] Notary PublicMy Commission Expires: September 19, [redacted]A & G [redacted] MA XXXXXNovember 16, 2014To whom this may concern:It is in my professional opinion & experience that I believe an aftermarket charging device plugged/installed into an older model [redacted] Mercury Cougar cigarette lighter outlet would cause a constant draw & overheating to the electrical wiring system(within the wiring harness)of a vehicle. Mr. [redacted] stated I drove the car into his shop, which I could NOT because the car would not even start. It completely shut down while I was driving causing me to stop traffic on Main Street in Millbury, a gentleman in a truck behind me was kind enough to help and push my car to my home which was literally yards away.I DID however, drive it to his shop on Monday 7/7/2014, which was the 2' time it was returned to him. 1 did so because when I picked up the car on 7/4/2014 after he installed a new alternator, the light was still flashing in the car. Due to the holiday weekend, etc, Mr. [redacted] asked me to bring it to him on Monday, which I did. Also, please find documentation from [redacted] Mercury in Auburn Ma stating that a cell phone charger will not cause the problem that happened with the car.At no point in time did I tell Mr. [redacted] that 1 had my own mechanic look at the vehicle. I NEVER made such a statement to him at all. I have NO idea where he might have come up with that statement. I said that to him on the phone and he abruptly hung up on me without saying goodbye, or explaining anything, etc.At NO time was Mr. [redacted] given permission to have the car towed to [redacted] Auto. I would call Mr. [redacted] on a weekly basis for updates only to be told he was working on it, having his mechanics test the wiring, putting a new computer in it, trying to get the key to match the computer, etc. I was told after about a month that my car was at [redacted] Auto. It was indeed towed there by Mr. [redacted] and [redacted] Auto will state it was "in pieces" and "needed to be put back together like a puzzle".My [redacted], [redacted] nor I have ever threatened Mr. [redacted] about the car. We simply wanted it fixed and were extremely patient if not overly patient about the entire situation. I literally begged Mr. [redacted] to give my money back after I brought the car back the 2"d time and he said absolutely not. 1 asked if we could work out getting something else for me instead, again, absolutely not. He said he would get to the bottom of the problem and fix the car.If further information is needed please feel free to contact me at any time.
