I was told one price for the dress alteration and upon picking up the dress was charged a higher price.The problem was on August 12, 2015 at approximately 5:30pm. I was picking up my dress that was hemmed and the seamstress had quoted a price of $20.00. When I went to pick up the dress I was charged $26.00 and was told that it had to be pressed which I never asked for as this was a brand new dress with the tags still attached. I just wanted it hemmed and felt like I was being taken advantaged of because I had no choice to pay for the dress so I could take it with me. The manager was extremely rude and lied about saying that it was supposed to be more than the $26.00. If I had been told it would have been that to start with I would not have had a problem paying for it. I felt like I was scammed out of money and the business is scamming the community.Desired SettlementI would really like my $6.00 back since I had not agreed to the price at the initial consultation.Business Response Dress was a new Evening style dress which customer wanted hemed. We had our subcontract seamtress come in at a specific time to pin the length for the lady so it would be exactly as she wanted it.The seamtress told here she did not think the hemming would be over $20.Our policy on doing alterations is that the pricing for alterations,cleaning, or pressing is priced seperately due to the North Carolina tax code. We do not have to charge tax on the alteration part of the work.We do require cleaning on garments that are not new with tags. New garment we only require pressing for the garment hems or other sewing areas be properly finished. The alteration charge on her dress was actually $11.25 and the pressing part was $14.60.We were able to charge less for the alterations than she was initally told because of the actual time spent on hemming.This was a very fair price for the alteration worked performed with special fitting at no extra charge and our regular price for pressing a garment of this type.Consumer Response The cleaners did not provide information about the charge for pressing until after the job was completed. This is a bad business practice and this is the only cleaners that I have ever been to that operated in this fashion. I should of had the option to press the hem myself at home. The only thing that I wanted done was just the hem. I will not be giving this cleaners anymore of my business because of their bad business practices.Final Business Response Customer was told upfront that the pressing charge would be placed on garment. We do not do a partial job on requested service. When we return the garment it is in a condition ready to be worn. If she did not want it professionaly done then she should have done it at home.
