Roettger Flatwork Reviews (%countItem)

This complaint is against the company, Roettger Flatwork, LLC (vendor) as they were hired to provide services and materials for a new concrete driveway to the clients at their home residence in exchange for payment of $7,354. After waiting 30+ days following the completion date of 08/29/2019 (to allow curing/drying of the concrete before assuming any issues), the driveway had obvious color differences in slabs, light and dark spotting within each slab (appears to be an uneven sealant application), plus a full length crack that crosses from one side of the slab to the other. These issues all occurred before driving cars over the concrete. In short, the final product would not pass reasonable expectations for the services that were quoted. Pictures were sent to *** via email on 10/24/19 and also sent via text message to Larry Roettger on 10/24/19. After we initially expressed concern via email on 9/22/19, we also followed up with phone calls and emails on 10/09/19, 10/17/19, 10/21/19, 10/23/19, and 10/24/19. Eventually *** visited our home in-person to discuss a resolution on December 4, 2019. During the in-person meeting, both parties verbally agreed that the vendor would fix to our satisfaction, including replacement if necessary, but we have not received an update or further information since that meeting after multiple attempts of contact were made in January, February, March, and April of 2020 by email, phone call, and text message. These contact attempts were made to Larry Roettger and ***, who are the two main contacts at the company. Their company email address is [email protected] In summary, payment from the client was issued by check timely after service (since it was too early to know of the issues) and that check was deposited by Roettger Flatwork, LLC on 9/6/19. However, the services were not delivered properly by Roettger Flatwork, LLC.

Roettger Flatwork Response • May 19, 2020

Regarding the complaint against Roettger Flatwork, ID #***, we feel the workmanship supplied by Roettger Flatwork was done correctly. Eastern Missouri Concrete doesn't guarantee the color of each load will match. No guarantee it would match if you redid it. The crack is hairline. We reached out to the concrete company. This is their reply.

This letter is in reference to the discoloration in a driveway ***. This driveway was poured on August 23 and August 27, 2019. This mix that was delivered was a 4000 psi with air entrainment, it also had .25% calcium and fiber mesh. Several factors can contribute to discoloration in exterior concrete pours which include; weather, moisture content of the sub grade, finishing procedures and curling. The same mix was supplied each day of the pour so the discoloration in this driveway was most likely caused by the weather. On August 23, it was cloudy and the wind speed increased later that morning. On August 27, it rained early morning and was mostly cloudy the rest of the day.

Although the ambient temperatures were close to the same on both days of the pours, the atmospheric conditioning most likely caused the discoloration in the driveway. The sub grad could have been affected by the conditions and caused the discoloration. Over time, the color of the driveway will begin to match and chances are you will not be able to notice any discoloration. We appreciate the opportunity to have been of service to you in this matter.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

The response from Roettger Flatwork is not acceptable as we need them to provide a solution to correct the driveway. We have asked multiple opinions of different people that have seen the driveway, and everyone has agreed that it should be corrected or replaced because of the full length 1/4" crack across an entire slab, major color variation and light/dark spotting WITHIN each slab.

The explanation that the weather caused a difference in color between one slab and another does not apply to our problem. Our slabs have significant light/dark spots and variation SPECIFICALLY WITHIN each slab, so there would be no change in weather on the same day, and therefore weather cannot be the reason for the problems that occurred.

We are willing to work with Roettger Flatwork to reach a middle ground such as resurfacing or a similar approach that both parties agree to (if they are unwilling to offer replacement or a refund). Please let us know if you can provide a service that would fix the issues outlined in this complaint.

Also, we have included pictures that help illustrate the problems with the workmanship. If Roettger Flatwork does not provide a resurfacing, replacement, or refund, we will have to post reviews on Yelp and Facebook to make other consumers aware of the poor craftsmanship that they will receive on their home projects. When consumers pay significant costs to improve their home, they deserve the same significant quality in return.

Sincerely

Roettger Flatwork Response • Jun 15, 2020

While Roettger Flatwork maintains the workmanship of the flatwork was completed correctly, we understand that the outcome was not up to the expectations of our customers. The concrete companies cannot guarantee coloration of concrete due to many weather-related indications and although it was felt by our company and the concrete vendor we use regularly in their letter that the coloration was due to the change in atmospheric conditions we have sent a letter of intent to our customer to offer a 50% refund on the flatwork we provided. We asked that the customer sign the letter stating this resolves any further issues with Roettger Flatwork on the work that was completed and await their response.

Thank you,

***
