Review: I made a visit to this audiologist in May 2013 to find out why my hearing aid beep setting was not audible to me. The first visit I did not get evaluation by [redacted] but instead by another staff member who replaced a receiver tube for me into wrong size. So after experiencing discomfort with this wrong device I came back for a second visit where [redacted] told me that she could hear the beeps on my hearing aid from across the room and that it was my hearing loss that was the problem not the receiver. She then sold me a replacement receiver anyhow after acknowledging that the original was not broken. That is medical fraud and a disservice to her profession. I have been billed for the tube itself $20 plus an additional $30 in late fees which are unnecessary considering the poor service provided. Subsequently, I had to visit another audiologist at [redacted] to get proper servicing for my hearing aids.Notably, the audiologist [redacted] has never provided me with a hearing exam or even so much as plugged my [redacted] hearing aids into a computer to monitor the program settings. She merely collects money from people with hearing loss and provided no real service to me.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed for my visits in May 2013, as it was a waste of my time and hers. This is not how an audiology clinic is supposed to be run.

Business

Response:

The complaintant first came into the office in March of 2012 with a broken hearing aid. Understanding that she was a student and had limited finances, we waived the normal office visit charge, and we fixed her hearing aid at a repair cost of $50, which is substanially below customary charges. She returned to the office one month later with a broken hearing aid, and we fixed it free of charge.

In May of 2013, she walked into the office, without an appointment, and on a day the audiologist was in another office. She complained that her hearing aid was not functioning, and our front office personnel attempted to resolve the situation explaining that the audiologist was not present. She temporarily replaced the part (at the direction of the audiologist) with an interim fix, and ordered the correct part. Again, we did not charge the complaintant anything.

Two days later, when the part came in, the Audiologist replaced the temporary part with the proper part, and the hearing aid was restored to good working order. For this, the patient was only charged $50 for a part that normally commands $75-100, and yet again the office visit fee and service fee were waived. The patient was never charged anything else, and there is absolutely no late charge fee.

When the patient articulated to the audiologist that she noticed a substantive change in her hearing, the audiologist referred her to an Insurance participating ENT for a comprehensive evaluation since we don't participate with her insurance.

So in summary, the patient was treated with the utmost respect and professional and clinical efficacy. For services rendered that would normally run in the range of $1250-1500, patient was charged $100 (and has only paid $80 of that).
