Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2016/01/28) */
Our shop initially recommended that Mr. [redacted] have his carburetor rebuilt and ignition switch replaced in order to remedy the motors running problems that he described to us. Please note Mr. [redacted] bought a motor that did not run in idle.Mr [redacted]...

only authorized one of the repairs we recommended to repair his motor. [redacted] paid us $502.32 for the diagnosis and rebuild of his carburetor. On 8-18 he returned his motor to our shop claiming the motor cranks but does not start. Please note his motor was tested in a barrel of water before leaving our shop the first time and it started and ran several times prior to him picking it up. However when he returned the motor to us he said it cranks but it does not start. At this time both the customer, Mr [redacted] and our shops management came to the conclusion that we would refund Mr. [redacted] the funds he paid us for the carb rebuild since we were unable to diagnose why the motor was still running poorly at this time. We also mutually agreed that this customer should bring his boat to a different shop for further repairs. IF it is true that his carburetor was not rebuilt and tuned correctly at our shop, we have already refunded Mr. [redacted] for this repair...this repair was free. His carburetor was bad when it came to us and whether it was repaired or not is irrelevant because we already fully refunded Mr. [redacted] for this repair. We are sorry if a mistake may have been made on our part. After we refunded Mr. [redacted] for all funds spent at our facility we told him to take his boat to another shop to get it diagnosed and repaired because we were unable to determine why the boat was not running properly. If Mr. [redacted] slammed his motor in gear he operated his motor negligently and if this caused damaged to his motor this is not our shops financail responsibility to repair. We did not tell this customer to slam his motor in gear rather we informed him that he needed to bring his motor to another shop to get repaired. Mr. [redacted] was fully refunded in August and we do not believe the bent crank shaft was associated to a repair that we performed. IT is our understanding that crankshafts get bent when a stationary object is hit while the motor is running. His motor died in idle so it did not run well. Most likely the crank shaft was bent prior to his motor coming to our shop and our mechanic just did not know that the crankshaft was damaged. Slamming a motor in gear that would hardly stay running could not create enough force to bend a crankshaft on a boat. Our shop and this customer agreed that the solution between our shop and Mr. [redacted] was to refund his money and he has been refunded. We do not owe Mr. [redacted] any money for a bent crankshaft. We did not bend his crankshaft and the repairs we performed did not bend his crankshaft. Therefore it would not be our shops responsibility to replace or repair his motor. He was fully refunded for his repair done at our shop in August. Our repairs did not do any damage to his motor. His carburetor was not working when he brought it to our shop, and the charge for us to rebuild it was already refunded. The repair we did to his motor did not cause any damage to his motor. Either his motor was damaged previous to our shop ever working on it or the customer damaged it himself while operating his motor and this could not have been related to the repairs done in our shop. We do not perform all types of repairs on outboard motors in our shop and we do not repair crankshafts. This customer must take his boat to another facitity for this repair and Roseville Auto and Marine does not accept any financial responsibility for this repair, the damage to his crankshaft was not related to a repair we did on his motor.
Thank you,

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2016/01/28) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When I brought my motor into Roseville auto and Marine the motor was running and it was driveable, I had it out on the water on several occasions before bringing this in to be looked at. While being looked at and repaired they determined it was a carb issue, which I auth the rebuild. Issue was worse when I picked up the vehicle, the motor would not start, nor would it stay running. Brought it back, was told that the carb needed to be tuned and re-adjusted. At this point I got motor to run on the water, and it was NOT successfully running at idle it was running and 2-3000 RPM's and the motor slammed into gear on its own, (Most likely from the vibration of the motor at that high of RPM) Again same issue once I picked it up from them. After the 3rd time, the manager stated " I no longer have a marine tech, and we are un-able to diagnose this issue." After 1 week of being left in the dark. So the chain of events are irrefutable. I brought in a running and working motor that needed to be tuned, I received back a motor that did not start, did not run and THEIR repair caused more damaged to the motor, again by them not repairing the carb correctly, and improperly diagnosing the motor.
They Also stated that they had the motor running. When I asked to see it running I was told we were closing up and we could do it on monday. I never saw or heard the motor run.
Roseville Auto & Marine should be held responsible for the further damage that their facility caused to the boat motor.
In closing the motor ran ok, but did need some tuning, after the repair they improperly did caused this damage and the timeline shows and the diagnosis that the other facility came up with, shows that due to neglect and improper quality control of their repair my motor was further damaged.
Thank you

Final Business Response /* (4000, 12, 2016/02/08) */
Mr [redacted]'s boat motor is 29 years old. Most shops will not even repair outboard motors this old because they usually have multiple problems and parts are difficult to find. The issue our shop repaired was the bogging and dying problem by rebuilding the carburetor. The problem was repaired in our shop however, this customer declined another repair we recommended: to replace the ignition switch which could be attributed to the motor not starting and dying while driving. We repaired what this customer authorized us to repair and nothing more. We always run boat motors prior to calling customers to pick up their motor. This motor ran while in our possession. This motor most likely had multiple problems. The only problem our shop was responsible for was the carburetor rebuild. We happened to have a staffing problem and we no longer had a outboard mechanic employees at our shop when Mr. [redacted] returned the second time. We no longer had a mechanic that could diagnose or repair any additional problems with this motor. Due to this inconvenience we fully refunded this customer every penny and recommended he take his boat to another shop for all further repairs. Please also note that crankshafts are made from very strong metal and are rarely bent from any other reason than the prop hitting a stationary object while driving the boat. Our carburetor repair did not cause the crankshaft to bend. We do not owe this customer any more money or additional repairs for his boat motor. We fixed one problem and the motor was old and had other problems. We can never guarantee that one repair will fix every problem in a motor.
Sincerely,
Britt [redacted] - Roseville Auto and Marine
Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 14, 2016/02/12) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Most boat motor repair shop will repair anything up to 1980 and most boat motors are relatively the same on how to diagnose and repair, this is a false statement. Roseville Auto And Marine keeps bringing up their repair on the carburetor (Which I will remind everyone again, that this repair was done wrong and incomplete and there were/are missing parts from the carburetor they supposedly repaired) They said they made another recommendation on the ignition switch (Which does not operate the same as a car) and when I asked for diagnostic verification about the switch being repaired will solve the issue, there was none presented.
They also state that the motor may of had multiple issues, isnt that your job to tell me that?
They also stated that "They had staffing issues, and no longer had an outboard mechanic. If that was the case then how/who repaired the motor the second time? (When the Carb needed to be tuned?) This is what I was told on the second visit. 3rd visit they finally owned up and said we dont know and can't fix your boat motor.
They facts are: I purchased a running boat motor that needed tuning, my boat motor started and ran.
Step 2: Brought boat motor to Roseville auto and Marine, they stated they rebuilt the carb. Picked up motor it didn't even start!
Step 3: Returned to Roseville auto and Marine - They stated "Oh the Carb needs to be tuned"
Step 4: Picked up motor AGAIN motor wouldn't start.
Step5: I brought motor back. after 10 days recieved a phone call they could not diagnose nor fix the boat motor. Refunded my money.
Step 6: Brought motor to white bear boat works, they diagnosed the carb was not rebuilt correctly and was missing parts, also diagnosed that the motor now had a bent crankshaft. (From me running the motor and it slamming into gear.) Again due to roseville auto and marines repair, or that there lack of.
Fact remains, I brought in a running and functioning motor and now I have a piece a scrap in my garage.
No one can deny those facts. But Roseville Auto And Marine is. No wonder why there not Revdex.com accredited.
Sincerly,
