My name is Luisa ***. On 12/17/20 I went to Rothman institute in Egg Harbor Township NJ 08234 because I fell and had a sprained foot. Move on a few weeks later on 1/10/20 I went back to see if the boot that was given for my sprained ankle could come off and now move into an ankle brace. My copay changed to $30.00; forgot all about that but paid $20.00 and I received a bill for the difference but I also received another fee for the same day $15.00. So in short, the office put in 2 claims for a copay; same day, same office for $15 office visit and $30 specialist. when you come to that facility you must pay your copay immediately which I did and was never told that another copay was going to be charged to me. I contacted their billing office @... spoke to Amber who advised me its my insurance co and I needed to call them; never indicating that there were 2 claims put in for the same visit. I called *** and spoke to Julie (48min)I explained I was there, for ONE visit not two. Why was I being charged for two visits. She indicated they charged me for the specialist visit and then for proceeding to move to another room for my ankle brace which was now considered an office visit; at least that is what she assumed. I am reporting this office because they deceived me and did not advise me of this fee. How many other patients are being billed 2 copays for one visit and not notified? I feel this is dishonest and upset because our premiums for insurance are high as it is and to over bill customers is dishonest. Worst part is; if it wasn't an odd amount I would not have questioned it and mailed it in. I am thankful I forgot about my copay changing (paid that in full) because I would not have questioned this bill and assumed I forgot. Dishonest way of running a business and we, the patients put trust in our doctors and for this to be handled this way is upsetting. How many others are out there that also were double billed and didn't know?
Ms. came in for an office visit with Dr. Hoffman on 1/10/2020. Patient was advised by physician that she should wean out of the boot she was in and begin wearing a brace. Patient was sent to the Orthotic department for a brace fitting and instruction. One claim was submitted under Professional Visit – Office, Dr. Hoffman for the office visit and one claim was submitted under Professional Visit – Home, Orthotics for the ankle brace. There is no instance of duplicate or double billing as two separate claims were submitted with different coding. The place of service for *** (***) claims is considered the location where a beneficiary will primarily use the *** item, which in this case is Home. Ms.’s benefits indicate a separate copay for Professional Visit Home. Per Ms.’s benefits, her claims processed with patient responsibility for two co-pays; one for the professional office claim and one for the professional home claim. Our staff even placed a call to her insurance carrier, *** after Ms. called in to dispute the charge. After speaking with a representative at *** on 3/2/20, it was determined that that per the patients benefits for L1902, *** covers this service @ 100% AFTER a $15 copay is applied. Therefore the claims were processed correctly per *** and patient does owe the $15 copay.
