Initial Business Response /* (1000, 15, 2015/08/31) */
First I'd like to say if these people had been home when we did this job, and saw how hard it was, they would understand our reluctance to come back down. The people were out of water but leaving for vacation so we agreed to install the well...

while they were gone. They had an existing 4" well, who ever drilled the original well are the ones who buried the wire 18" deep, they are the ones who did it wrong. We did discuss replacing the pump etc., saying you want "new wire" isn't something a person would say but anyway, the month was June when we did the work, and it was during the week we had a lot of rain.
We went down to drill it one day and couldn't even get in there yard, it was so flooded, it was like a swamp. So we went back a day or so later, and brought in all kinds of special matting just to get across there yard to drill the well. I guarantee you no other well driller would of drilled this well under these conditions, they would of left these people out of water until it dried out. So after we got it drilled we came back and installed the pump, and that's when we normally dig in a water line and install the underground wire, we bury all our pipe and wire 4' deep. Just trying to dig a pit to install pump and pitless we had to go out and buy waist high waders, our trench was filling up with water constantly, it was a nightmare. It really was, I bet we went through 3 cans of mosquito spray on this job, we were swarmed the whole time. With the difficulty of the trench filling with water and trying to get them back in water before they got home, we ended up tying on to there existing water line and underground wire,(which is a very standard procedure if the people already have an existing 4" well) the wire someone else had installed. Under different circumstances if we had seen the wire was only 18" deep we would of notified the homeowner and replaced it, but due to all the rain and the conditions my guys didn't catch it. I did not charge these people a penny more than what we had originally quoted them, even though I should have, for all my extra time, the special matting etc. I could have easily charged them another $500-750 but I didn't. I think that's why my wife was so reluctant to go down there and replace something that we did not install for free when the homeowners called and complained about it. This job was extremely difficult from the start but we pushed through it to restore there water, at no additional cost. Like I said earlier I think if they had been home and seen everything that happened, they would understand my position a little better. That being said, we will come back down there and hand dig there wire deeper, for them, and not charge them any extra. It will be a couple weeks though before we can do it.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 17, 2015/09/02) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
First we would like to point out that when your company came and gave us the estimate, we had already had 3 weeks of straight rain and water standing out there. That was what burned out the original pump to begin with. When your company was here, I stated I wanted everything new such as a well, pump, bladder tank, wire because we didn't want to have problems later on down the road. You stated it would not be a problem to complete the job. You said it wouldn't cost anymore than what was quoted unless you had to dig the well deeper which you had to do and we paid the extra funds for that. Now as for needing extra supplies and what not, your wife called me while I was on vacation and said you couldn't get in to the yard and that you were going back to the shop to get the mats in case you guys did get stuck when the backhoe arrived. Also, it is not our problem nor could we prevent the mosquito issue, after all it is your job to work outside and it's not our fault that your company had to use 3 bottles of mosquito spray. Now as for the well pump wires being buried the 18 inches, they are not, they are only buried approximately 4 inches down. We would have never caught this if we weren't having electrical wires buried for a new barn that was being built at the same time and when the electrician dug for his wiring, he hit the well pump wires due to only being buried the approximate 4 inches. We appreciate that you came out and did do the job, however we feel it needed to be done correctly and if you couldn't complete it correctly, you should have stated as such. Also it would have been another thing, if you would have called us while on vacation and said the wires couldn't be buried that deep at that time because of all the water, but you didn't so therefore, I feel it is your fault that it's not done correctly as discussed. We would like for you to come back and dig the wires the appropriate level according to your standards. We expect this to be done in a timely manner as you have stated you could complete in a couple of weeks.
