RPM Automotive Reviews (1)

Review: I have a 1965 Chevy truck Iam trying to restore and took my truck to RPM Automobile and was told Yes, the work could be done. This was on 9/26/2014.I wanted the wiring to be redone, and when I brought my truck in, it was running. My truck sat at the shop for 6 weeks and when I picked it up it was cutting out and the next day when I went to get gas put in the truck it stopped running and I had to have it towed home. The wires were all wrong in my truck and the coil was laying across the engine. My truck sat in front of my house until Nov.2nd when a mechanic friend of mine, finally got my truck running when I could drive it. The mechanic at RPM had a man help him rewire my truck as we went to the shop on Oct.23th 2014 when I was informed I could drive my truck(ONLY it lacked a steering wheel that was not attached, had wires hanging all over and the bucket seat was removed.)The gas tank that the mechanic also installed was not vented as well. (I added a vented gas cap later.)My windshield wipers DID work before I took my truck in and found out that the wiper was never hooked up after I got my truck back. There was other wiring problems as well,as I was informed the wires that were installed by RPM did NOT even go to my truck to begin with, the fuse box was placed in the wrong area, and there was no ground wire for the interior lights or flashers which were again NOT hooked up.I also was told the mechanic at RPM would not charge me for labor just for the parts? I also was asked for a $3000.00 deposit which I put on my credit card. I agreed to pay to the mechanic $1600. and this is what I would like to be credited BACK to my card if possible. This mechanic took me for a ride and I would NOT tell anyone else to take your truck, car, van, or small size animals to this person, period!!The mechanic ([redacted]) is NOT a business man, just the owner and does NOT know what he is doing!Desired Settlement: I wish my $1600 on my credit card to be returned and credited to my card

Response:

To whom it may concern, On August 18, 2014 Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] came into our business (RPM Automotive) requesting to check their 1965 Chevrolet truck that they had recently purchased. They had a list of several issues that they were concerned about including fuel gauge, horn, cluster, lights, carburetor, front brakes, and differential. with concerns about the differential, we advised them to take the truck to a differential specialized establishment. They took the truck and told us they would be back for the other repairs. On September 23,2014 they brought the truck back to repair the items listed above. We told them that the price for parts and labor would be around $4,000.00 and they told us to fix it.

We requested a deposit of $3,000.00 on September 25, 2014 to place the order for the parts because these parts are special order for this vehicle. On the same day (September 25,2014) we ordered the parts. We received everything but the wire hardness on October 3, 2014 we begun to start install the parts that arrived on that date (Gas tank, horn relay, and alternator). The wire hardness went into back order (source) which caused a delay of 3 weeks (it was received on October 20, 2014). In this period of time the customers were being called at least twice a week to inform of the delay. As soon as we received the wire hardness we started working on the wiring. Mr. [redacted] called me the next day (October 21,2014) telling us that he needed the truck right away because his wife was sick and needed transportation for appointments. We started working extended hours (8:30 a.m - 9:00 p.m.) to get the job done faster than the time we had agreed on (3 weeks).

They came/called everyday harassing us demanding the truck. On October 24, 2014 we finished the job and gave them the truck back, we replaced the complete wire harness, fix instrument cluster, replaced front lights and tail lights, replaced fuel tank, replaced horn relay, and installed new steering column horn kit. At the time the truck left RPM Automotive all of the above was working properly. The heater wasn't working due to resistor damaged, wipers weren't working due to a bad switch, also needed to replace the carburetor due to it not being fixable (to old). Knowing this customer didn't want RPM Automotive to spend anymore time on the truck. We charged them for parts only and refunded them $1,400.00. They drove the truck out of the shop. The next day Mr. [redacted] called us asking how was the family, and told us that everything was fine with the truck except for the carburetor. On October 29, 2014 around 1:30 Mr. [redacted] came into the shop requesting his money back or the parts. he said that the truck wasn't working so we told him to bring back to check it and he refused and told us he was going to get his money one way or another.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: First this shop had my truck for 6 weeks NOT 3. When I drove my truck in, it ran when I drove it away, due to the REBUILT carburator it was spitting and sputtering.,and I did NOT drive my truck out of the shop, the truck was parked on the side of a building. The owner(Hector) had put on a rebuild kit for the carburator we had brought in,and I had to replace the whole carburator later with another mechanic due to incomplete work on my truck.I was told I would need a deposit of between 3 TO 5000 DOLLARS in order to get everything complete on my truck and the owner asked for cash of which I informed him I did NOT have, but used a credit card instead,so the money could be traced later if I needed to do that.AND in this case it was a good thing I did. The owner had another white fat man who was giving the orders concerning my truck as both my husband and I decided that the owner didnt know what he was doing in the first place, but I screwed up and left my truck there when I should have just said no more! Each week and NOT twice a week as the owner said we would get a phone call saying come over and see what we have done to your truck, and when we walked over there we could see nothing! I have never heard of another company call the customer up on a phone and asked them to come to the shop to see the work they were suppost to do instead of calling and letting us know the work was done and we could just come and get our truck. Both my husband and I now feel we were taken for a ride and it became a nightmare. We picked up my truck on Oct. 24th2014 and the very next day going to get gas the truck completely stopped running and I had to get someone to tow my truck home! The only thing that did work on my truck was the lights and the horn which again was not even tighten down right! I will NEVER deal with this company again, and would not allow anyone else I know to go to this shop PERIOD!!! BEWARE!!is all I can say. In the long run I had to have another mechanic remove most of the wiring as it was according to them not put in right, and I had wires for electric windows which arent even in my 65 truck. Also the wiring according to 2 other mechanic said I was lucky my whole truck didnt catch on fire from the improper wiring done by RPM. As to the gas tank installed the vent was not right either,as I had to obtain a new gas cap which had a vent on it. The main thing thro was the wiring as it was hanging down from the dash board, and was laying across the engine, and was NOT taped like it should have been.(I have pictures to prove what RPM did )It was NOT a complete wiring job as the interior lights were not hooked up but forgotten. I asked for the installment of my glove box only to be informed that it was broke and needed to be welded, which 2 other mechanics said that was a lie! When my husband went over and explained that our truck was NOT running(after being towed home) the owner said to bring the truck back so he could fix it as it was the carburator that was bad. My husband then informed the owner that the carburator had been replaced. The whole nightmare by RPM is a joke and I will NEVER give this business a thumbs up and would advise anyone from doing any future business with this person unless you also want to be taken to the cleaners as I was.
