R&R Home Improvements of Virginia, Inc. Reviews (5)

R&R built an addition to our family room about 10 years ago. The addition sits on the deck of our house. We've spent the last 10 years using space heaters in winter and unable to use the room in summer due to overheating.
We recently discovered why; we removed our old flooring to prepare for new floors, and found that there was a 6" wide by 2 feet long hole between the original house floor and the new addition, that R&R filled in with trash and papertowels, before covering it up with the flooring. In addition, there was a water leak under the french doors leading to the deck because there was no flashing or water seal, and the entire subfloor has molded and rotted out.
The workmanship was not good overall (crooked window frame and other cosmetic issues) but the 2 problems we just discovered are absolutely astonishing. Never hire these people.

I was not aware that R&R was still in business when all attempts at contacting them failed.
R&R Home Improvements of Virginia, Inc. did not show up for a month though we called repeatedly. Subsequently hesitated providing an itemized list of expenses when requested. When the list was provided additional charges were added. R&R Home Improvements of Virginia, Inc. was overpaid. The owner rarely came to the job site and ultimately we were told to talk to their lawyer. Our lawyer contacted their lawyer multiple times. He, and his lawyer, refused to respond to our lawyer. They also would not respond to the bank nor us. In the end R&R acknowledged, via email, they were overpaid but continually refused to respond. All additional charges were unauthorized and required a modification signed by the bank R&R, and us.
Prior to contract signing R&R stated the only work that would sub’ed out was the carpet because his crew did not do carpet well. R&R sub’ed out hardwood flooring, HVAC and gutters.
Later we we found out that the hardwood flooring installers called to inform R&R that the subfloor was slanted. They were instructed to continue with the install. Subsequently a door has rubbed the finish off of part of the flooring and there is a noticeable slope in another area.
We specifically requested a brand of heat pump. One which we had installed and were happy with in a previous house. R&R told us that what they would install was the same with just a different branding on it. We’ve had the company that was sub’ed to install it out 3 times in the first year.
The gutters and downspouts were not installed per the schematic drawn up. We specifically asked the spouts be directed in certain ways. We were told that was fine, would not harm the foundation etc. Our request was for aesthetics. I watched what the gentleman drew and wrote while talking to him. The installation was performed as if no one was referring to the schematic.
Gas stove was installed in replace of an electric. The electrical box under the cabinet was not covered. Wire nuts on the wires hanging out where pots and pans are stored and the breaker turned off was the protection.
The new oven required modification to the fascia of the cabinet. Plywood was used but not edge banded and it was affixed using staples. After installed it was stained. The staple holes were not filled so there are black holes for each staple. We were told this was our fault because we decided to purchase the wrong size oven.
We were told that stair treads could be sanded, stained, and finished instead of replacing them to save some money. Again, the nail holes were not filled, the stain is splotchy, and I believe only one coat of poly was applied. R&R said that 2 coats of poly was applied but I can’t tell. It was applied with a chip brush. I can tell that it’s no where near the results I get when properly preparing and applying. I can tell what it was applied with because the cans and brushes were left.
The contract stated that the foyer was to be painted. R&R painted not only that but stair risers and skirt boards, the front room, and the front door. Then wanted to charged an additional $325.00. Aside from not wanting anything but the foyer painted prep work was not done properly. Immediately paint was scratched off. The front door paint could be removed by a fingernail. The paint on the stair risers was scraped off by the boots of R&R’s workers, and the painted skirt board was sloppy.
An unauthorized charge was $400.00 for a dumpster. R&R placed trash from other jobs in the dumpster R&R wanted to charge me for. R&R stated we requested it. We did not.
An additional unauthorized charge was $375 for extra trips to point up. We did not request extra point ups. We were told by the painters that extra point ups were required. We were also told that two walls had to be stripped and sanded. Subsequently, the painters, asked us what we were doing. They could just skim them and we should not have done what we were told to do.
