Be fair, these joes really might be trying and they just dont know how.
When RTI flashed that mint condition $2 bill in that welcome letter sent US Mail, I was quite impresed. Then I ran away when I saw hundreds of online complaints RTI made other marketing surveys labeling these poor guys "door knockers." Before you let them go, this might really be some tempworker who is trying to collect data for a government project. If it is, he only has a defined pool of respondants on his worksheet. He cant just go to the next guy to ask the same questions and that is probably why they are knocking on someone's door several times. The average guy doesnt know how to show government authority with his interview, maybe he doesnt even have a badge with the authority of the office for which they are doing research. He winds up stating an unrecognized name doing the survey, RTI, then a government office, with the consumers freaking out about why they came to the door in the first place. If you dont want to take that survey, dont just close the door, tell him nicely to mark it as a refusal. But before you do, give the poor guy performing the survey a chance. Remember if he doesn't get that high response rate, the data he spends the whole day collecting is incomporable to the study his day that costs his boss more than one hundred dollars. Its all on him. For some worker who doesnt know how to show rapport in that single door-to-door interview or has no authoritative government badge, that would be hard to get a response. Combine this angry consumer response with the manager who says he better get that 90% range or he will lose his job and that would be stressful.

RTI representatives have been unrelenting with the phone calls! We value our privacy and do not wish to give our any personal or financial details to this organization! Do they not understand no means no!

Stop sending rude people to our apartment complex, they have been told NOOOOO many times. We will contact the police and charge the people you send with harassment. It's private property and they are not allowed here, per owners ... Your people keep coming back, and try to push their way into residents homes, also asking for personal information. ssi# etc. enough is enough... we have been told that will come back 10 times to get what they want.

I got a letter from RTI stating that my address has been selected to take part in the NSDUH survey. Being that there is no way in hell I am giving either a private company or the Government any such information I called the number on the letter and was assured that my address was removed from the database and that I would not be visited. I hope so because going to jail over some pushy agent getting his jaw broke would suck.

Apparently the FDA has hired this company to conduct a survey for which they supposedly pay you $25. They come to your door and harass you with personal questions. The guy was extremely aggressive and would not take NO for an answer. I shut the door and he basically refused to leave for another 15 minutes. I thought about calling the cops. It had all the hallmarks of a scam, but after doing some research it seems this is legit. It's a company called RTI International. The guy even came back tonight. I didn't answer the door. This all started because my dad filled out an online survey . They are desperate for my data apparently, but I am not giving the current government any data. TAKE ME OFF your list.

Quit coming to my home and harrassing me to complete a voluntary survey. Remove my address at once!Repeatedly asked individuals coming to my home to complete a survey to stop it! One woman told me she would come back no matter what. Different individuals have come out, some nicer than others, but I am not going to answer questions that are none of your business.Desired SettlementStop coming to my home and harrassing me.Business Response Thank you for contacting us. Staff at RTI International have removed the complainant's household address from this important survey, conducted on behalf of the Federal Government.

Harassment and trespassing The solicitor has been to my home 8 times in the past 3 days. I have repeatedly told her I am not interested in their research and I don't want her coming on my property any more but she continues to come and harass me. I have to shut the door in her face to get her to leave and still, she stands out there and knocks 3 or 4 times. I have No trespassing signs on my property and she is oblivious to it. I told her this evening if she comes one more time I will call the Police. That didn't even faze her. I want it stopped and I am ready to file harassment charges if it doesn't.Desired SettlementI don't want to see her or anyone connected to this company at my home again.Business Response Research Triangle Institute (RTI), trade name RTI International, www.rti.org, is conducting a study called the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH)1 that seeks to examine the use and non-use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs as well as attitudes and knowledge about drugs and other mental health issues. RTI is a non-profit research organization located in the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. RTI is under contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to conduct the NSDUH. NSDUH is authorized by Section 505 of the Public Health Service Act (42 USC 290aa4) and is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Since only a limited number of households are selected to represent the population of the U.S., and an alternative household cannot be substituted for the one selected, the field representatives are professionally trained to do their best to obtain cooperation from residents in the selected households. When residents seem reluctant to participate, the field representatives follow a set of procedures to determine whether the resident is, in fact, firmly refusing to participate in the study or if visiting at a later date may be a viable option. In this case, the field representative felt it was prudent to return to this residence, but after several unsuccessful attempts, this case was coded as a refusal on Monday, July 25, 2016.1 The NSDUH project is sponsored by an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (OMB No. 0930-0110). Additional information about the NSDUH can be accessed on the Internet at http://nsduhweb.rti.org, http://www.samhsa.gov, and http://www.rti.org.Consumer Response This is the same response word for word that the company gives to the numerous complaints they receive. The bottom line is, they are rude, pushy and use harassment to try to get information that is none of their business. Saying they use procedures to be sure the person is firmly refusing is BS. How many ways can a person say no before they understand! The only way to get rid of these people is to call the Police like I did. As far as this being resolved, their response and their business tactics are unacceptable but as long as they never return to my home again, the case is closed as far as I am concerned.

These people continue to harass me at all hours of the day every day of the week!! I HAVE REFUSED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS SURVEYThese annoying salespeople will come to my apartment building at all hours, on weekdays and weekends. I refuse to open the door when they arrive because I want NO part of their survey. They stay outside my door for several minutes, and I watch them stand there. Next time I will call the police for harassment and stalking. I have already notified my apartment manager that these people are harassing me. This behavior is causing me stress and anxiety and if needed I will look into pursuing legal action. I am stating this in writing that I REFUSE THIS SURVEY. Harassing field agents. Do not want to fill out survey and they keep coming back over and over againThese field agents have been here a few times. I have repeatedly refused to be involved in this research study with 2 different RTI employees and they continue coming back. Remove me from your listI have been approached 4 times by 2 different RTI employees and all four times refused to be involved in their study. I don't care how important the company or their employees think the questions they have to ask me are, they are not important to me and I am being harassed to be involved in a voluntary study. The women both continued to pry information out of me about why I didn't want to participate, why I wouldn't answer there questions, and so on and on. It's my right to refuse to be interrogated and I did not sign up for or agree to this study, or to be asked intrusive questions about myself or my family and will contact the police department for trespassing and harassment next time an RTI employee steps foot on my property. Respect my right for privacy and remove my address and/or name from your research list. And yes, I have read your website on how important you think your studies are, how much you feel like these research questions help people, except the fact there is no option to opt out. Only explanation about how to coerce homeowners into answering your questions if they receive no for an answer. Problem is, you are harassing and disregarding my rights to refuse your study because your company and employee feels it is better served to strong arm me or anyone else into answering these questions. Along with contacting the police, I will contact my lawyer to see about my rights concerning this level of harassment.Desired SettlementDo not come by house, step on my property or contact me again in any way, shape or form and respect my right for privacy. It shouldn't take 4 times for me to say stop calling or contacting me for your company and it's employees to STOP contacting me.Business Response Research Triangle Institute (RTI), trade name RTI International, www.rti.org, is conducting a study called the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH)1 that seeks to examine the use and non-use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs as well as attitudes and knowledge about drugs and other mental health issues. Additional information about the NSDUH can be accessed on the Internet at http://nsduhweb.rti.org, http://www.samhsa.gov, and http://www.rti.org.Consumer Response There were not several unsuccessful attempts, but there was several refusals by the homeowner, Me. There was several refusals by your employees to accept no for an answer. This was a blatant disregard of my answer of refusal by your employees and if you think this is okay behavior, please give me your home address and I will be sure to conduct a random research study at your house multiple times, regardless of whether you refuse or not. It doesn't matter who conducts the study, what the importance of the study is, you shouldn't have the indecency to disrespect a homeowner in such a way. Again, this being that I didn't sign up for this, volunteer for this or agree to this study. But now I have a huge dislike for your company and will never take one of your studies seriously. Final Business Response Each and every scientifically-selected household for a federal government sponsored and congressionally-mandated research study such as this is vitally important to the integrity and robustness of our data; as a result, field interviewers are trained to try to make this point with household members. Field interviewers know that it may take several attempts to get this point across. No disrespect was intended. You will not be contacted again.More Info Received From The Consumer(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)It's not mandated that I, nor anyone else participate in your study. You are not understanding my point and continue to argue your point as if you are correct and have the right to continue to talk to me as if I am ignorant. I totally understand your point and don't think it is relevant to you trying to invade my privacy and right to say no by using strong armed tactics along with making me feel guilty or stupid for not participating. Automatically assuming I don't understand how important you think your study is or the weight it holds in helping some congressional study enact over me whether I agree with it or not is asinine. I will continue to argue my point until you apologize for your rudeness, disrespect and total lack of manners. I can't come to your house and do the same thing that you did to me, but I can continue to write out rebuttal after rebuttal on the Revdex.com and continue to trash you and your disrespectful company. How hard is that? To admit you were wrong, apologize and move on? Obvisously pretty hard, which is why I will continuously discredit any research your company produces, and tell people that your company is extremely disrespectful towards people requesting their privacy. Their are over 300 million people in this country, someone wil agree to participate. Maybe you should change your way to pick randomly, like ask the participating party for permission in a letter first.

Pushy people trying to extract personal information! On several occasions I had a pushy woman approach me and ask me invasive questions about my life. I told her I did not want to participate and asked her to leave. On the first occasion she caught me getting in my car to drive out of town. I told her we were leaving. She didn't drop it, but proceeded to ask where I was going, with who, for how long, when I would be back, and more. I was in shock. You come to my house early on a Saturday and harass me with your questions that are none of your business? Then she pulled into my driveway after we left and sat there for 15 minutes and tried to get access into my home. Several weeks later she came back, again on Saturday morning. Very pushy and rude. I do not want to participate and ask that she stop coming here.Desired SettlementStop coming to our house and speaking to anyone that lives here.Business Response /[redacted]/Thank you for contacting us.
