I hired RDS drywall after my house was damaged during Tropical Storm Debbie. RDS billed my insurance company for work that they never completed
On the evening of 6/24/12 my house sustained water damage caused by Tropical Storm Debbie. I contacted RDS drywall on 6/25/12 and they began work on 6/26/12 when they set up dehumidifiers, fans, and air scrubbers. I filed an insurance claim with my home owner's insurance company (ASI) on 6/27/12. On 6/30/12 ASI sent out an adjuster who evaluated the damage with an RDS employee ([redacted]) present. [redacted] from RDS stated there would no longer be any charges for the equipment at the house. At this point RDS collected a $2500 payment towards my deductible which turned out to be an error on their part because my deductible was only $1000. After weeks of asking they finally refunded me $1500. On 7/15/12 the adjuster came by for another inspection and then on 7/31/12 the insurance company sent out an engineer to further inspect the damage. When I asked the insurance company why they were doing this they told me it was due to RDS filing an "unusual claim". Once I received the scope and checks for the water and mold remediation parts of the claim I contacted the owner, [redacted], to discuss inaccuracies in the scope. He told me that they billed for some work that did not happen in order to cover work that was denied by the insurance company. I told him I did not like this but he assured me that ''this is how business is done in this industry.'' I signed the checks over to him and mailed them on 8/30/12. RDS came to do the mold remediation on 9/8/12 at 10:25am and left at 2:00pm. RDS was supposed to come back on Monday but cancelled and came on Tuesday for the same amount of time and completed the mold remediation. [redacted], the owner of RDS, called me on 9/10/12 and told me they were no longer interested in doing the build back on my house because ''they were too busy''. They received payment of $4,901.57 for the water mitigation and $7,775.75 for the mold remediation from ASI. RDS collected a total $12,677.32 for 4 half days of labor and 6 days the equipment left in my home to dry it out. I believe that this is a gross over payment for services due to the fact that they billed the insurance company for work that was never performed. When I confronted [redacted] via phone and email about this he told me that he would not refund this money and that he is entitled to it for the work that he performed. I have contacted my insurance company to let them know that RDS received money for work never completed as well.
