Review: In June, 2012, I brought my [redacted] to the Rusty Palmer repair center due to a broken spark plug. The vehicle ran in perfect condition but was ready for a basic tune-up. When attempting to replace the plug it broke off and that is when I brought the vehicle to Rusty Palmer. I picked up the vehicle after the "repair" and put it in the water. After a few minutes of running, the vehicle began spewing smoke. I cut the engine and jumped off in fear it was on fire. We returned it to Rusty Palmer explaining what had happened. They disassembled the motor and informed me that it was not repairable and that is was an "unfortunate coincidence" that it had occurred after they had worked on it and that they were not responsible. They said they could keep it there with "hopes" of finding a used motor to replace it with. At this point I did not feel I could trust the business ethic or mechanical abilities of the center so I told them I would pick it up until I decided what I should do about it. When my brother-in-law picked it up for me they actually returned it disassembled in boxes!! There was no way I would know if all the components were there or if it was even the motor that belonged to me. At that point I disputed the charge of over $1000 dollars for the "repair" that left me with a seized motor that was returned to me in pieces. I am single and work full time and purchased this [redacted] for my grandchildren to enjoy when we visit my sister on a lake in PA. I don't have the free time to take care of such a calamity! At this point it was the end of the summer. I began researching purchasing a rebuilt motor. In the spring I found a company and purchased one. I had a local NJ mechanic put the "pieces" of the seized motor together because it had to be exchanged for the new one. When he got it together he discovered there were whole sections of the unit missing i.e. the exhaust and manifold. Therefore the new motor was worthless without all the other parts, and purchase and installment of the missing ones would be more than the vehicle would be worth at that point. I had to again pay over $200 for shipping to return the motor I purchased. This vehicle was in excellent condition other than a minor spark plug issue and was destroyed by the careless workmanship of a mechanic at Rusty Palmer. From what I discovered by speaking to mechanics is that something was dropped inside the motor when they disassembled it to remove the broken spark plug which caused the engine to seize. I do have the invoice #'s and dates but not with me while writing this.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive the value of my [redacted] which was $5500 to purchase another used [redacted] If Rusty Palmer decides not to settle than I will be forced to file a small claims court complaint.
