I wish I had looked further into this company before I did business with Charlie Barnes. It would seem he has been giving people the run around for years. I have two signed contracts and one verbal. At this point he has possession of my shelves that he cut and stained. I provided the wood. The shelves weren’t properly stained so he took them to take care of them and was to bring them back the next day. That was over a month. He recovered my personal chairs and did a crappy job, the cushion wasn’t pulled over the wood before covering. He was suppose to come back to make that right, still haven’t showed up. He installed a barn beam and put an extra hole in the beam because he measured wrong. He should had a helper. I signed a contract for a farmhouse table and bench to be delivered March 15, 2019. It’s May 4, yet to see the table and bench, just excuses and lies as to why he can’t make. He has $275 deposit for this job, my wood love wood shelves , and my remaining fabric which I paid for. I going to legal on base Monday to see what can be done to make this right because it’s obvious Charlie does not take this business serious He is full of lies, excuses my money and my property.

Revdex.com spoke with the owner of the business he provided the following response: The business stated that initially when they delivered the table, the customer didn't voice any concern with board with or gaps, but in fact upon receiving the table ordered another piece and gave a depositThe customer then contacted them and said that he didn't like the gap in that board, and the business stated that they used year old reclaimed wood, and that was part of the style of the wood because they do not plane the boards, which they also explained beforehandThey offered to replace that board that the customer had an issue with, however, in an attempt to make sure he was satisfiedHe refused that offer, and stated instead that he wanted a whole new topThe business agreed to do so, and came out to his home to get the board in question from the original top to match the stain on the new oneThe business stated that when they came to his home the customer made attempts to intimidate the business, by coming out of the house holding a gun, and by mentioning that his dog was a former police dogThe business completed a new top, which was very labor intensive, and which go for a value of $500, and the day of delivery they stated that they had to push the time back to later in the dayThe customer was not satisfied and wanted to keep both the original and the new topThe business stated that they would have to take back the old top and the customer made threats to sue, and said that he wanted to cancel the other order for the islandThe business stated they have already sent back the deposit, and because of the threats and intimidation made by the customer, they were not going to continue the business relationship, and they are shipping back the board from the original top tomorrow morning

Hey Charles Barnes, glad to see you responding here. When you going to send me my money? Right now I have to file for either wage garnishment, selling of your property through a sherif/deputy, or assets...or you could just pay me!

re: Kelly Rice and Rva Historicals

This is separate from everything else that is going on. But Ms. Rice, your issue started originally because you could not decide on what sinks to choose period Then There Were scheduling conflicts with you going out of town or working. I came and did the demo of your bathroom and reinstalled the tile. All that remained was to install the vanity the countertop and the sinks. Since there had been scheduling conflicts, I had been forced to move to other projects. You contacted me telling me that you had someone else that was going to finish the job and that you were going to come by and get your sinks and vanity. Which you did. Based on the cost of the demo and the installation of the new tile, and the deposits you gave, we are even. This was explained to you prior to which you agreed

As far as you reaching out to Debra, she did respond to you and let you know that she was now living out of state and that you needed to deal with me.

Your situation is unique in the fact that you are very hard to deal with and a lot of the issues could have been avoided had you made yourself more available and made decisions in a more timely fashion regarding faucets and sinks.

Same stories as above. Took deposits. Work not completed. Left my bathroom unusable. I have no sinks or vanity as he took them out with demo. Many excuses given over and over and over again. And then he stopped contact all together. I was able to get back my antique buffet table, sinks and faucets back which I am thankful for. But they still are not installed. And I also paid a deposit for a countertop that was never installed (Probably never existed) and never got that deposit back either. I filed a BBB report. What else can be done?

This is Charles Barnes. To everyone that I was unable to finish your product, your deposits will be back to you by October 15th.

I apologize but I ran into dire financial difficulties, and my business partner left,

But I am working diligently to take care of this right now.

Wish I had known of everyone else's issues with this guy. All of the stories are the same. We're experiencing the exact same issues that everyone has posted. BEWARE of this guy...he's a real piece of work ( or insert your own word here!).

Excuses...excuses...that's all you get from this guy.

The good for nothing Charlie just got hit with another $4,000 judgement on July 23 in Henrico and eviction. bye bye charlie

Debra what is your take on all of this? You were the co-owner at one point. I tried to contact you way back when all of this happened and you didn't respond to me either.

WOW...what is the eviction deadline?

Charles Barnes is not an honest man. 19 times he has promised and not delivered the barn doors that we put a down payment on. Every excuse from dog, birds, accidents, car trouble, floods, rain...hell the Russians. The man is not honest. DO NOT pay him a down payment. He has not installed my doors or returned our cash. At this point, my father-in law is going over the emails and texts to file a case against him. Will update here further when I have made further headway.

+5

how do you file a case? what is the process?

Won my case today against Charlie Barnes and his RVA Historicals for $1092. Now to get my cash. He never showed for court.

Can we file a class action suit? Bank of America suggested filing a IC3 report with the FBI. BofA attempted to reverse our transfer, but there are no funds available to reverse. We've offered TO GO GET our table - every excuse in the book.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The owner, Mr. B[redacted], makes it sound like this happened only a few weeks ago.  Actually it has been going on since December 12, 2015. When the table was delivered on December 11th, Mr. B[redacted] failed to mention that the table was short by 4 inches, and not wide enough by 2 inches. He proposed that I look the table over for a week or so, and if I was not satisfied in any way, to let him know. I let him know the very next day. There are only a few statements in his response that are true. I did let him know I would be contacting an attorney to take legal action against them; that was the only way I got any response from Mr. and Mrs. B[redacted]. I did get my deposit back on February 12, 2016, after he stated he mailed it on January 26, 2016. On February 6, 2016, Mr. B[redacted] came to my home to remove one of the boards from the table. He stated that he was taking it back to his shop to match the stain, in order to give me a new table top. He observed my dog in the yard and I did tell him my dog was an old police dog living out the rest of his life in the country.  At no time did I bring out a gun of any kind around Mr. B[redacted]. Furthermore I would not have firearms around strangers. Mr. B[redacted] even shook my hand when he left with the board. At this time, I feel that the owners of this company will say just about anything to make it someone else’s fault. I just want what I paid for.

The business stated that initially when they delivered the table, the customer didn't voice any concern with board with or gaps, but in fact upon receiving the table ordered another piece and gave a deposit. The customer then contacted them and said that he didn't like the gap in that board, and the business stated that they used 100 year old reclaimed wood, and that was part of the style of the wood because they do not plane the boards, which they also explained beforehand. They offered to replace that board that the customer had an issue with, however, in an attempt to make sure he was satisfied. He refused that offer, and stated instead that he wanted a whole new top. The business agreed to do so, and came out to his home to get the board in question from the original top to match the stain on the new one. The business stated that when they came to his home the customer made attempts to intimidate the business, by coming out of the house holding a gun, and by mentioning that his dog was a former police dog. The business completed a new top, which was very labor intensive, and which go for a value of $500, and the day of delivery they stated that they had to push the time back to later in the day. DO NOT DO BUISNESS WITH CHARLES BARNES OR RVA HISTORICALS. THE MAN IS A THIEF AND LIAR. DO NOT TRUST A WORD HE SAYS. Ordered a table from him but turned out nothing like we discussed. After one week the table began warping, splitting, and the finish is coming off. He said he would make a new table. It's been over four months and nothing but lie after lie as to why he can't deliver. He will tell you he is going through a family crisis, his truck breaks down, and he can't do anything if it's raining. He actually texted me saying he was on his way and never showed up two times, thus wasting me and my family's time. He has stolen over $1, 255 dollars from me and my family. Spread the word about this despicable man!

He has dodged my calls and emails. Has anyone resolved the issues? He does beautiful work and it is a shame that he has so many complaints. I would either like the doors installed or my cash back. [email protected]

We are having the exact same problem. He has $850 of our money. Texts he’s coming over and never shows. Sent us pictures of his face when he got but by his dog. Says he has problems with his mom, his truck. All the same bunch of lies. Has anyone had luck against him. I was going to file charges against him. Has anyone been successful? He need to be in jail.

I have had a remarkably similar experience. Email me? Let's compare stories and advocate for each other. [email protected]

It wasn’t clear how to update the complaint on the website. I did resolve the complaint with the business owner.  So this can now be marked as “resolved satisfactorily”. Thanks,[redacted]
