Rick *** (president) was sent over by IKEA to do a measure for cabinets. We had no idea what layout would work, or where to begin. Rick took a pook and suggested an Island configuration that we worked with IKEA's instore team to figure cabinets. I hired IKEA to assemble and install the cabinets, which was done by Rick's team.
RW Shaw also did the rest of the work on the project including demo of tile floors, cabinets, painting, trim, and everything else needed. We encountered unforeseen conditions with the demo, and RW Shaw team was fair with the extras. Their team for the most part did a top notch job, the few things we didn't like were quickly made right, no quibbling.
Was very much a collaborative relationship rather than a contentious one. Job was pretty much always staffed and completed within the expected time.

I paid RW Shaw to renovate my kitchen under the understanding that it would take a week to complete. I was ok with it taking longer. Problems happen and schedules get elongated. It has now been over two months and I am having trouble getting the company to answer voicemail messages, emails, or phone calls, though. Their inability to communicate about when they will finish the project is getting frustrating.

The company has contacted me and I am satisfied with the company’s efforts to resolve the matter.Thank you

I had a great experience with Shaw. They handled everything I needed for a new IKEA kitchen.
They coordinated the demolition, the cabinet assembly and installation, the plumbing, electrical work, and back splash tiling. The price was fair and reasonable, and everyone who worked here was honest, reliable, and proud of their work. Special thanks to Janet, who scheduled and coordinated the work; owner Rick, who made my vision a reality; Erin, who meticulously measured my crazily angled kitchen; Mike who installed not only IKEA purchased cabinets, but cleverly designed and made several custom cabinets; Gerry, Greg, Eric, Aaron, and many others whose names I unfortunately cannot recall. My kitchen is now better looking and functioning than I ever could have imagined. I highly recommend Shaw, and will use them myself in the future should the occasion arise, Thanks!

RW Shaw installed our IKEA kitchen cabinets and they did a fantastic job doing so. Both Brian and Eric arrived on time, and stayed until the job was done. They used their skills and experience to finish out the install and the attention to detail was some serious craftsmanship. We would recommend them to anyone as they were friendly, kept us informed of what was going on and they even had a great design suggestion that allowed us to include another cabinet in the finished plan.
When the job was done, they cleaned everything up and shook our hand. We'd have them back anytime to work on our home.

Well, the kitchen isn't quite done- still waiting for countertops, then sink, plumbing finished, and backsplash. But I have nothing but great things to say so far about the entire experience. Erin worked with me to measure my very oddly shaped, small kitchen, and to help me recognize my vision; Rick was able to help me finalize that vision; Janet has been available to give advice, explain procedures, and coordinate schedules. There have been lots of tradesmen- from the guys who assembled the cabinets, the plasterers, the plumbers, the electricians, and installers. Every one has been professional, happy to answer my questions, and meticulous. Especial thanks to Greg, Gerry, and Mike. Mike is a real perfectionist, and can work 10 hour days on cold pizza! I am very very pleased with their work, and would highly recommend them to anyone who would like a project done right.

RW Shaw was hired to install partial ceramic floor tile in kitchen remodel. Unsatisfactory installation...tile is not level and one tile is loose.

RW Shaw was hired to install subway tile backsplash including proper grout.....grout is cracked where tile meets countertop.

RW Shaw was hired to install IKEA cabinets resulting in a large gap at side of pantry cabinet. The material RW Shaw used to fix the gap is cracking and looks unsightly.

RW Shaw failed to provide a release of lien for payment of invoice.

I have checked with the office and we did indeed fail to send out the final waiver, we will take care of that promptly. As for the other complaints this is the first indication that there any concerns or service work that was being requested.

The work is under warranty and we will take care of it.

RW Shaw Construction Services Response • Apr 01, 2019

It was the customers responsibility to provide the matching floor tile. We were on the jobsite a week after they had finally supplied the material.

The customer had the final lien waiver this morning.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below

We are trying to sell our home and do not have the luxury of waiting for this company to return to our home to fix the problems with the job. We would like them to suggest a cash amount to be returned to us to fix the problems.

On March 12, 2018 we contracted with RW Shaw for remodeling of our main bathroom with a verbal start date of mid-May (did not start until June) and a completion date of July 25, 2018. We had requested the contractor to get all permits needed and were told by *** (contractor) that none were needed since we were not changing the "footprint". Due to many issues on the contractor's part (poor workmanship, material not ordered or incorrect, nobody on jobsite) the due date was not met. On August 14, 2018, due to a lack of progress on the project, we made modifications to the contract, which were signed by ***. These modifications called for the project to be completed by September 6, 2018 with a penalty of $200/day to be assessed for each day beyond September 6. Completion of the project to be based upon approval by the customer and a walk-thru with RW Shaw. The penalty was to be deducted from the remaining balance due ($5031.00) from the original contract. On September 14, 2018 (seven days after the negotiated due date) the tub was refinished and upon the worker's suggestion we made a change to the project. The two tower cabinets which were originally planned to rest on the counter-top were now to be hung on the wall. Due to the cabinet manufacturer being closed this change caused a three week delay to get the trim pieces. Again all of the needed material was not ordered at the same time and it was November before the cabinetry was completed - except we had no pegs to hold the shelves in the tower cabinets. In November we discovered that permits should have been pulled for the work and were needed. At that time we requested *** to get the required permits and he told us he would. He also said we would have the pegs needed for the shelving by November 23, 2018. On December 4, 2018 we sent a certified letter to RW Shaw requesting the pegs for the shelves, the proper permits and lien waivers as we felt that there was no longer any monies due him due to the penalties incurred. It was January 2019 before we received the pegs for the shelving and we never had a walk-thru. The permits have since been applied for by *** to the Town of Waukesha and he needs to sign an affidavit as well as have a licensed plumber and electrician sign an affdavit for the work done since the work is completed but never inspected by the town building inspector. It has been well over a month and *** has not moved on the permits, even though he has been contacted by the Town of Waukesha building inspector. I believe the issue he has is that he never had licensed people do the work so he has no one to sign off on the work. Note: in the course of this project we have complained to *** many, many times via phone and emails concerning the lack of progress on the project, concerns of workmanship, etc. and many times had to leave messages or his voice box was full. Often we did not get responses.

We have not heard anything from RW Shaw. As far as I know he has not responded to the Town of Waukesha building inspector either.
What are our options from here? Do you still attempt to resolve the issue? Is there some place else we should file a complaint with or do we
need to start legal action by seeing an attorney?

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
After 16 months from the agreed completion date of our bathroom remodel – and after the Revdex.com’s unsuccessful attempt to resolve the issues – RW Shaw Construction
has resolved the outstanding issues outlined by our attorney to avoid litigation. RW Shaw Construction Service has paid one half of the attorney fees, issued all permits,
and lien waivers. While not entirely satisfied with the outcome, we have grown weary of pursuing any further issues and consider the issue closed.

Thank-you for your assistance in this matter

I would not recommend this company to anybody. We were directed to Rick as a result of using the IKEA design services for our kitchen. Shaw construction was responsible for demo Of our kitchen on July 30th. As general contractor, Mr. Shaw was to arrange our ikea cabinets to be constructed and installed along with minor electrical work to add two canlights above our sink along with switches for the lights and our existing garbage disposal and the installation of a subway tile backsplash. There were no changes to the existing footprint of the kitchen and the diesign was prepared by IKEA provided designer. We hired somebody else to install the countertop and sink. We had informed Mr. Shaw at the start that we intended to sell our home with the goal of the kitchen being a selling point. Mr. Shaw indicated he was co pelted with this project on November 18th....this after repeated delays and poor work. Mr.Shaw sent subcontractors to the wrong site resulting in delays in our project. The designed plan left a gap between the cabinets and the ceiling giving n unfinished appearance—we ended up having to hire someone else to add molding to the ceiling. The can lights that were installed were left in an unfinished state...Mr. Shaw told me that a painter should remove the lights to paint (and sand the shoddy drywall that he put around the lights) and caulk around the lights to fill in the holes around the light...so the job was not completed. We were billed over the contract amount because the lower cabinets were a bit smaller than the originals so the tile floor needed to be supplemented—-the contractor told us he would “take care of it” but he wanted us to provide tiles and was not specific on how many tiles would be needed resulting in many delays. In a nutshell, took three months to do and the done project required us to hire someone to “fix” the top of the cabinets, we will have to hire a painter to “fix” the ceiling around the can lights and they didn’t even put an outlet switch on the wall where the tile was installed...definitely not a “finished” kitchen.
