Review: I took my Concord watch to be cleaned and my [redacted] Ring to be cleaned. [redacted], the son of the owner and an apprentice learning the business, assured me they could clean both pieces. I took the watch off my wrist, which had a new battery four months old, and in perfect working order and the ring off my finger. I stressed to him that the ring was a [redacted] and had to be cleaned accordingly. Again, he assured me they do it all the time..when I returned for my items, he told me they could not get the ring completely cleaned and that my watch was not working, the same watch I took off my wrist in perfect condition. I took my items and went to Tourneau where they told me someone took the gasget out of the watch to clean it and did not put it back therefore causing liquid to get into the watch. It cost me $450.00 to repair. The ring I took to [redacted] and they were shocked a jeweler would damage it so and it had to be redone for $56.00..I took the bill of $456.00 to the owner, [redacted], we blatantly said he would not reimburse me for the damage his son did, when he clearly knew it was due to his neglect when cleaning. I want to be reimbursed as a $60.00 cleaning charge turned into a $456.00 charge..Also they continuely ask for cash to avoid paying taxes.Desired Settlement: I would like the amount of $456.00 to cover the cost of repairing my Concord watch and [redacted] ring.

In response to the above referenced complaint, the following is our statement in rebuttal.[redacted] of Stamford

Ct. came into our store (Royal Jewels of Rye) on June **, 2013. She presented five items for service:

1) A Concord watch which she requested the two tone strap to be cleaned.

2) A Jaz watch which needed a new strap

3) A silver bracelet which needed to be cleaned

4) A silver bracelet which needed the lock to be repaired

5) A gold chain which needed a new lock

All services were performed to the customers' satisfaction for a total of $70.00.

Tax was charged at a rate of 7.375% as warranted in Rye, NY and she paid with her VISA card seven days later on June **, 2013.

Copies of her repair slip and credits card receipt are attached for your records.

As you can see by the repair slip, no rings were taken in for either polish or repair. All repairs were done on premises, in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost. We reviewed our records and did not find any additional repairs or purchases from this customer on either July **, 2 013 or October [redacted] as she has stated in her complaint.

In responseto [redacted]'s statement about [redacted], althoughit is true that he is young (26), he has been working in the family business for five years. All work done is supervised by myself and attention is paid to detail. Our business is built on and referrals and it is for exactly that reason that [redacted] came into our store from out of state. We cannot be responsible if [redacted] chose to take her jewelry to Tourneau or any other high end manufacturer. It is common knowledge that these type institutions routinely overcharge for common repairs. We can only be responsible for what happens in our store. At Royal Jewels of Rye, we pride ourselves on providing quality workmanship and superior customer service - after all - our business depends on it. Our reputation for expert repairs has been well documented since 2004 when New York Magazine chose to highlight Royal Jewels in their Best of New York edition for jewelry repair.

We regret that [redacted] chose to file a formal complaint with your office. We also realize that all complaints, whether

substantiated or not need to be investigated. Thank you for the opportunity to present our side of the story.
