I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. My plumber read the response from S & S and was appalled by their explanation that he incorrectly installed the shower.  S & S knew the plumber did not do drywall.  That is why they were hired to replace the bulkhead and do the drywall after the shower was installed.  S & S should have put up the 2 by 4 board to attach the drywall.  They are at fault and should return to correct their mistake.  I have done business with S & S many times over the years and paid them a lot of money.  It is very disappointing that customer satisfaction for a repeat customer is not too high on their list of priorities.  Now I am caught in the middle and faced with hiring another company to fix their mistakes.

I would like to work with the facts.First drywall does not crack by itself, or it would crack all over your house. It cracks from motion. An example of this is, if your house settles you will get a crack in the drywall. It doesn’t take a lot of motion for drywall to crack. I don’t attribute this problem to the house settling but it is being caused by motion. The motion is being introduced by stepping into the one piece shower unit.Second, we did go back and repaired the crack and it came back again. I am sure if we go back again the crack will return until the motion is corrected. I am not sure how the unit was installed but it needs to be secured properly or the drywall will continue to crack.Third, we did not charge for installing the drywall next to the shower unit.

Review: This company installed a bulkhead over our new shower in the master bathroom. Immediately after the bulkhead installation, the drywall started cracking and they came back immediately and repaired it. The drywall is now cracking again and they have refused to repair it stating the blame is on the plumber who installed the new shower or the builder who installed the original shower. Our home is 24 years old and we have never had a problem with cracked drywall in the shower area until the new bulkhead was installed. The time period is less than two years for the new drywall by the bulkhead. This is unacceptable to us and we would like this company to repair the drywall area that has cracked.Desired Settlement: Repair of cracked drywall by the bulkhead over the shower in the master bathroom.

ID [redacted]I have attached the proposal of work for your review. The scope of work that [redacted] and [redacted] contracted our company to perform is listed in the proposal. The area that [redacted] is referring to is the shower bulk head, the drywall on the bulk head and the crown molding on the bulk head. [redacted] seperately contracted with a plumber to install a neoangle shower unit. The shower unit is a fiberglass unit octagon in shape with a preformed base. The plumber cut the old unit out and installed the new unit. The proper way to install a one piece preformed fiberglass shower unit is to prepare the walls with 2x4’s at the edge behind the shower unit and at the edge of the drywall so you can secure the unit and the drywall together. The plumber installed the shower unit and cut the existing drywall and left a gap 4” wide immediately next to the shower unit. Once the unit is installed we can not install a 2x4 behind the fiberglass unit and secure it properly. You would have to screw through the unit. This is what is causing the drywall to crack. When you step into the shower unit it is causing motion. This motion is cracking the drywall. Drywall will not crack by itself if there is no motion or moisture. Otherwise you would get cracks all over your home. Now if you look at our scope of work on the proposal, we were not contracted to do the drywall work next to the shower unit. There should never have been a gap next to the unit at all. We were contracted in advance of the shower unit installation to install a bulkhead over the shower unit, install the drywall and put a crown mold at the top. When we arrived to install the bulkhead we saw the 4” gap on both sides of the shower unit. [redacted] asked us to fill the gap next to the unit with drywall. We explained the problems that we were facing by not having a secure wall to install the drywall. We did install the drywall at no charge to the customer, finished it and painted it. Cracks developed from the motion caused by stepping into the shower unit that was not installed properly. We even went back and fixed the cracks again at no charge. These cracks will continue to happen until the shower unit is installed properly. For us to keep going back will not solve the problem. This is a problem that the plumber caused in his improper installation. Our goal is to perform work at the highest level and to have happy customers. We have been doing shower installations for over 30 years. We are not beginners learning on the job. This is not something we can fix without removing the shower and properly securing it. Drywall does not crack by itself. Drywall cracks from motion or moisture. I feel we have been more than fair to [redacted] since we installed the drywall at no charge and went back and repaired it at no charge when we were not even contracted or paid to perform this work
