S & D Truck Service Reviews (1)

In December of 2012 I brought my Ford 350 Diesel to S&D Truck Service to have them investigate the cause of a knocking sound after a mechanic friend recommended them. Just over a week later I picked up my truck and was told by S&D that after the work they had completed the knocking may not have been solved so they recommended I run 3 tanks of Diesel through the engine. I paid $631.01 for the work done to that point.
After running two tanks of diesel through the engine the knocking was still present and had even become worse. So about a week and a half after I had picked up the truck I stopped by S&D told them about the problem and we agreed I would drop my truck off after New Year's to have them look again.
On January 3rd I dropped off the truck. S&D pulled the engine and replaced a piston. They found a broken plug stuck inside the head/piston and noticed that a skirt on the piston was broken. It took them over a month to complete this work. Once they were done I picked up my truck and paid the $4,745.88 bill.
On October 24th, 2013 after driving a short distance the truck began to drive roughly and was smoking. I dropped it off at my mechanic's house. My mechanic said he thought I had blown a head gasket. About one week later I called S&D to see if they would look at it since I felt it would be covered under warranty if it was in fact a blown head gasket. The following Monday someone from S&D came out to where my truck was and did a visual inspection, at that time they said they felt it was not a blown head gasket but instead either a bad oil cooler or EGR valve. The following day I got a second opinion that also diagnosed it as a blown head gasket so I called S&D. S&D agreed that if was a blown head gasket it would be covered under warranty, and I would have the truck towed to them the following day so they could repair the truck.
They had the truck for over a month during which time I put in several calls to check on the truck and see what S&D had diagnosed or done to fix it. My calls were frequently un-returned, I even stopped by the shop which didn't get me any better customer service. S&D confirmed that the head gasket had blown. They pulled the head and had it milled by a machine shop. I requested the phone number for the machine shop they used and still have not received that information. On December 4th S&D informed me that they would not warranty any of the work done even though it was a blown head gasket which they initially said would be covered under warranty. On December 5th I called and told S&D to hold off on putting the truck back together until I told them to proceed. On Monday, December 9th I asked S&D to provide me an itemized bill by December 11th, for the work they had done to this point, and a separate bill for what they would charge me to put the head and block back and get the truck running again. On December 13th I called to check and see if they had the itemized bills completed for me, or the number for the machine shop; I didn't not receive a response.
The complaints are as follows: S&D has failed to provide me with the itemized bill that I requested (XX-XXXX). S&D has consistently over the course of my business with them either failed entirely to respond or taken exorbitantly long to respond to my phone calls, and in person inquiries. (X-XXX). S&D has also, self admittedly, put off repairing my truck in order to work on other jobs. The first time they had it over a week, the second time for over a month, and now this time they have had the truck for going on a month and a half (X-XXX). Most importantly S&D is refusing to honor their warranty and their repair agreement. I was told that if the current issue was a blown head gasket the repair would be covered under warranty unless it was due to warping. They have been unable to prove that there was any warping that caused the blown head gasket or that there was any other contributing factor. Thus the repair should be covered [redacted]
