We were contacted by Mr*** to do a Groupon that he had purchased online for an
air conditioner tune-up
When we arrived at the home Mr*** explained to us that the air conditioner had mysteriously come back on by itselfHe went on to say that the blower in the furnace had stopped working at the time of the problemHe also showed us water that was spilling all over the basement floor where he had piled up towels to try to contain the water
We immediately explained to Mr*** that the plugged drain and the problem with the motor would need to be addressed and repaired before we could do the Groupon air conditioner tuand those charges would be additional dependant on the nature of the problem and how much labor was involvedWe were told to proceed and Mr*** went upstairs at that point to check on his mother
The plastic drain line from the evaporator at the furnace ran on top of the basement floorIt zigzagged through the furnace room, through an attached bathroom, through a basement wall and into the laundry room before reaching a floor drainThere was a consideradable distance involved and more than a few degree elbows all adding to the problems with the drainWe attempted to use compressed carbon dioxide to blow the drain clear but after using considerable carbon dioxide and time it was obvious that the drain was not to be unplugged
It appeared to us that water from the plugged drain was overflowing the evaporator drain pan, spilling down within the furnace itself, and most likely hitting the electric blower motorWe believe that this was the reason the furnace blower stopped and restarted at a later timeWe explained that if this was indeed the case attempting to run an electric motor while being wet would certainly shorten lifespan of the motor and any other electric component that might get wet
We suggested that a condensate pump be added to the furnace that would pump the waste water overhead to the stationary sink in the laundry room completely eliminating the existing plastic drain pipe running on the floor
Mr*** explained to us that he had a current financial problem and told us we would need to do the additional work at a later date when he was able to afford the additional repairs
We presented Mr*** with a service bill to cover our labor charges and materials used
I feel that our company made a good effort to eliminate Mr***'s problem but unfortunately clearing the existing plastic drain was just not possibleHowever in a good faith gesture we are enclosing a company check in the amount of $that Mr*** asked forThese funds may be used toward installing the condensate pump whenever he sees fit to do so
We will at this point in time consider this complaint satisfied
