Work done to attic Sept. 7, 2013 is inferior and very unsafe. Particle board used for floor and no studs used for walls; walls are extremely hollow.My complaint is about some contracting work I had done to my attic. On August 27, 2013 I called [redacted] of Saino's Home Improvements (License #[redacted]) in Memphis TN. He came out to my home and I explained I wanted to have my attic converted into a room. He stated he could do the job in 2 days for $2600.00. We agreed. He did not show up on the original date agreed upon, Monday morning, September 1, but rather on Tuesday afternoon. The job took him and his partner 5 days,instead of the 2 he stated.The construction, consisting of floor and walls, is inferior and unsafe. After having another contactor come out on September 17th, to look at the work done by Mr. [redacted], I called Mr. [redacted] and relayed the defects the contractor had pointed out: use of particle board, instead of ply wood for the floor. The floor has many gaps between the boards that were laid. The floor buckles and creaks very loudly when you step on it. He didn't place any studs for the walls, and they are hollow. He requested I give him 5 days "to make some money to buy the boards".I gave him an additional 2 days after the requested time and then I started calling him on September 24th. He never answered his phone, nor returned any of my messages. He finally picked up the phone on September 30th, but when he heard my voice he hung up.I decided to write him a certified letter and extend him a week from receipt of the letter to correct his work. On October 2nd, I sent out 4 letters, 2 certified and 2 via regular mail to both of his business locations listed on the Web. On October 15th, I received a letter from him (postage due and no return address), stating all the hardships he was suffering. He stated "If there is some way I can make some fast cash and I profit something I will address the problem". He didn't try to make a profit from me, he made a COMPLETE Profit. He went on to say "I can only hope and pray that I can make some money to fix your problem". He stated he had a job to do on the 14th (October). I've yet to hear from him. As of October 24th, my certified letters go on being undeliverable/unaccepted at the business locations listed on his web sites. The present contractor at first stated the best thing to do would be to tear out all the work Mr. [redacted] had done and start over. I can't afford to pay another $2800. As it stands right now, I have paid an additional $375 for materials to the new contractor and that does not include labor. Present contractor also pointed out the electrical work, done by another one of Mr. [redacted] associates, needs to be corrected; one of the electrical wall outlets is loose and the light switch moves around and is surrounded by unsecured particle board.The floor is unsafe and the walls are so hallow that if one were to bump against them, one would most definitely go through it. Mr. [redacted] has severely comprised the safety of my family, especially my grand children , ages 4-10 who visit every weekend. He brought up his hardships as an excuse for not being able to correct my "mistake". Desired SettlementI want to receive the additional money I had to pay the second contractor to fix the work done by Mr. [redacted].
